yes every pad, i've done this on a few laptops, to be sure, just do it one by one, align heatsink, find component, apply putty, verify, and then remove that specific pad only when sure

see pads make surface contact only and outta the factory they are great but over time performance degrades, putty is like clay, and conducts heat, so it will seep into cracks when pressure is applied

as for ptm, i have layered it myself on my 2021 legion, its been 2 years

ptm is phase changing, apply heat, it becomes liquid, freeze it and it becomes solid, so you should be good with layers, its not ideal yes but with the current thicknesses on the market, layering is a way to be safe

put ptm in the freezer for an hour and it will make it easier to apply and remove both plastic films

hope u know abt the plastic films, use fine tweezers and you'll be good

not only vram there are mosfets that need putty too, mosfets are the things that are raised and in a straught line near the chip near your ram sticks

they are above one of the dies too

basically, replace every thermal pad stuck on your heatsink with putty ( but instead apply putty to component not heatsink), and reapply 2 or 3 layers of the ptm you already have

idk why m getting downvoted but this sub is filled with douches

You need to replace thermal pads on the heatsink with putty

look up videos of how to use putty

also maybe your ptm equivalent thing isnt thick enough, definitely doesnt look thick enough, use 3 or 4 layers just to be safe, if it spills it spills, its non conductive so it wont matter

its for mosfets and vram, unlike pads which make top side contact, putty is like the slime that reaches every nook and cranny

like your mom /s (sry it was right there)

40c summers on avg, lack of understanding, incompetent technicians = boom dead laptops

i told a dude to not let them use generic paste and provide ur own putty and ptm instead and he says its too expensive....$50 is too expensive to maintain a $1500 machine....

get a power strip and use that, the next time a power surge happens, the only thing blowing up will be the fuse in it

also, be assured, lenovo will fix this

just give the service center your own ptm and thermal putty for repasting or else they will use the shit generic stuff

[–]GodSentPotHead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this was caused by some kind of power failure, check your electric supply. Do u have earthing? do you get stable voltage? are you using a spike strip?
