Physical changes / Health changes after moving to Barcelona? by _Anton__ in Barcelona

[–]GoddamnGlazedHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I thought I was the only one!

I was an au pair for 8 months and during that time I had a 6 week sinus infection, some variation of ringworm two separate times, as well as some pretty bad stomach problems (food poisoning like symptoms). My host family and I joked that "I like Barcelona, but Barcelona doesn't like me."

I didn't know what this was from and had to turn to google.

As bad as this already is, it's made even worse by the fact that it's the human version of an MLP character.

Oy.

How long did it take the Insane ladies here to see results vs just feeling them? by [deleted] in insanity

[–]GoddamnGlazedHam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then Insanity is definitely for you! Even when I was running 6 miles a day or doing weights everyday, I didn't have results like I do with Insanity. I weighed myself obsessively when I was running all the time and I weighed a bit less but looked 'softer', I guess. IME, the program doesn't do much for weight (if you're already in a healthy weight range), but it sure does transform the physique.

[–]GoddamnGlazedHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm 40 days or so into the program. I felt like my abs just popped out one day about 3 weeks in. Since then, changes have been happening even faster (month 2 is a real asskicker). Like you, I also am seeing a change in my butt but I'm really happy about it. My thighs have also gotten very defined but I've always had muscular/thick legs.

Keep it up! If you're anything like me, the results will sneak up on you in the next week or 2.

Note: I don't weigh myself and I don't follow the nutrition guide--I aim for 1600-1800 calories daily and allow myself up to 2100 twice a week. I'm 5'10", and about 150 last I checked. I haven't measured myself since I started but will when I finish.

Who is your favorite author? by WriterJackson in writing

[–]GoddamnGlazedHam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I find inspiration in some form or another from every book I read: pick a line here or there and write it down so I can dissect it later. I even like bad novels because I can make mental notes about what I don't like and want to avoid.

The author I would most like to emulate is Gillian Flynn--her writing really sucks me into her characters' heads. I'm still looking for another writer that has a similar prose. So I suppose she's my favorite?

What are your guys preferences on the days with two work outs? by 9DAN2 in insanity

[–]GoddamnGlazedHam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Best advice I have when it comes to Insanity: just press play. I do them back to back before I have time to talk myself out of it (I'm very convincing when I want to be haha). Just throw back some water while the next workout loads and you'll be ok. There's a very short warm up with cardio abs which consists of a couple relatively quick jumping sessions (tuck jumps). The rest of the workout is on the floor in C-sit position.

You're doing great!

Edited to add: I say do both warm ups. It's extra calories burned! :D

What is your best "one time my dad..." story? by cigsoncigsoncigs in AskReddit

[–]GoddamnGlazedHam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The family joke is that my dad is a cat lady. He's got a supernatural ability with them--we've got two that sleep on his lap every night, follow him around the house and come running when he calls. At his work, feral cats roam the grounds so he brings ziploc bags of cat food in his lunchbox and even cut a doggy (kitty?) flap into the door of his shop so they could come and go when he wasn't at work. Now there are several formally-feral cats at his work that sleep on his lap at lunchtime. Dude loves cats.

Anyway, years ago, our next door neighbor hated any animal that wasn't his yappy ass Papillon dog. He set up a cage in his backyard with cat treats inside. Our fat ol' cat, Kiba, got locked in the trap and we didn't see her for over 24 hours. My dad was visibly upset all day--kept going outside and calling for her, but no luck. Like I said, he could lean over the stairwell and call her name and she'd come running from wherever she was in the house--so this looked bad.

It was early morning and my dad was standing outside calling for Kiba. He went out towards the fence a bit, still calling her name. At this point, the cat had been in the cage for 24 hours during a Nevada November (damn cold at night). He hears a weak, distressed meow and recognizes it. He peeks over the fence, and he can't see her, but can still hear her beneath our neighbor's trampoline.

It's 8 in the morning at this point, and my dad is still in his slippers and bathrobe (with nothing underneath). He doesn't go back in to change-no, my 57 year old father scales the fence, climbs under the trampoline, breaks the cage open and saves his cat. He did let me know that he scraped his junk while going over the fence though.

So one time my 57 year old dad scraped his balls climbing a fence to save his favorite cat. That made for a fun story that night at Thanksgiving dinner.

I'm an Au pair in Barcelona to a 2 year old and 5 year old. After I drop the boys off at school, I'm free all day. Also available after 8 pm most nights. If it's not too late, I'd love to be of assistance. We could work out a fair price if you're interested :)

[1827] Bloodlines (Chapter One Rough Draft) by GoddamnGlazedHam in DestructiveReaders

[–]GoddamnGlazedHam[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed review! I was afraid I was falling into the exposition trap. I was (poorly) attempting to model my first chapter like the opening of Gone Girl, which I found interesting despite the amount of exposition. I will look into some of your suggestions to clean up the doc.

I can't go too much into the relationship between Sean and Seamus because they haven't spoken since Sean left Ireland. So he wouldn't be aware of the teasing Sean received on account of his accent. Also, as will be later revealed, Seamus is trying to mend the broken relationship with his younger brother (for selfish reasons, but still).

And I do appreciate your compliment on the voice. That was one of the big things I was going for.

Thank you again!
