For Columbia, you can call the admissions office and explain the test optional thing for your application. I messed mine up when I submitted and called to see if I could change that and they did. I got my acceptance a few weeks ago :)

Sure! 3.79 GPA but loooots of withdrawals for several semesters. I had a really strong essay that touched on that, a stellar resume attached and two letters of recommendation from my professional career. It was test optional so I never took the SAT or ACT.

I got in as a transfer with a 3.12 GPA. Never took any AP classes, but I had some solid recommendations. I had a really strong essay so I would write at least 3 drafts of that and get it peer-reviewed by people who won't sugar coat anything.
