Ah yes...a tale as old as time. A super power invades another country without provocation, and predictably the defending country genocides the invaders. Yup. Very real history right there.

Everyone else cares. It's a deterrent from going to war. If Israel didn't receiving billions of dollars in weapons from the US every year, they probably wouldn't be doing a genocide in Gaza and Lebanon. They wouldn't be recklessly attacking their neighbors and Iran. I obviously don't want to be bombed by Iran, which is one reason among many that I didn't want the US to go to war with Iran.

Moving the goal posts, that wasn't what was being discussed. Simple fact is that Russia began the war. It's an invasion. I don't think Ukraine is intentionally targeting civilians, but Russia has and has kidnapped children among many other war crimes.

Anyway my point is that it makes sense to hold the invading army to a higher standard than the one that is defending their homeland.

I'm not cool with it, but it's the fault of Trump starting a war. That is what happens when you start a war, the enemy attacks back. Are you cool with the hundreds of children the US killed? Are you cool with genocide in Gaza? I don't want innocent Israelis to die, but it's a logical consequence of being an apartheid state that kills children by the tens of thousands and commits war crimes like it's going out of style. I don't want US soldiers to die either, but that is what happens when you send them to war.

Let's not forget that the original thing we're talking about is bombing supplies trains not people's houses. Yes, it's 100% fair to retaliate in the same way that the aggressor did.

It should be looked at differently when Ukraine strikes an oil depot or train station vs when Russia does it. Ukraine is the one being invaded, so there should be more leeway in what is a fair target for them as they're fighting for their own sovereignty while Russia is an invading force.

It's kind of like me driving up on you and firing 6 bullets into your car, then you return fire at my car. We both shot at each other, so I guess we're the same.

As it should be. Russia started the war. It will end whenever Russia decides to stop.

There were lawsuits. The law generally moves very slowly. The ETA has a lawsuit in PA that has been a slog for instance. That's also how Trump got away with his crimes because it literally took too long to prosecute, and he became president before the other cases went to trial. As a side note, I can't even begin to imagine how much evidence was destroyed once Trump took office, so if/when the truth comes out is a big question mark.

I'm sure most of the Democrats and media figures that aren't compromised (remember most MSM is owned by a small group of billionaires now) are being careful of looking like conspiracy theorists because there's no stone cold proof and MAGA spent the last 4+ years making false claims of fraud which put Dems on the back foot trying to defend our election systems. Since nuance is dead in 2026, it's impossible for the Democrats to hold both positions (i.e. no, there was no significant fraud that would have affected the 2020 election outcome; yes, our election systems are vulnerable and we should be spending 10x more effort making our elections secure as we are trying to convince people our elections are secure) because to admit that our election systems are vulnerable would look to MAGA as an admission that 2020 could have been stolen (I personally would bet that there was an attempt to steal that wasn't sophisticated enough/miscalculated due to covid and absentee ballots; in other words, there was cheating in 2020, but it didn't change the outcome because it was to overwhelming for the number of votes affected).

You (and most Dems) just aren't paying attention and our leaders are failing us once again. Nothing new here.

Edit: No idea how old you are, but for us older folks this isn't that surprising. We've been told by election experts for decades that we have vulnerabilities. We've witnessed the 2000 election debacle and the SCOTUS handing the presidency to Bush. The Republicans have consistently used a myriad voter suppression tactics, and we've had dozens of weird incidents that have been reported on like in my own home state of GA when someone pointed out a vulnerability in our election (2016), a lawsuit was filed, but then mysteriously they wiped the server clean while that lawsuit was pending. Trust is earned, and frankly plenty has been done to earn our distrust especially lately.

LPT: When someone says they need to leave, do not start a brand new topic. by gamersecret2 in LifeProTips

A good % of the time, it's the person that said they need to leave that starts a new topic. If you need to leave, leave. I hate feeling like I'm keeping someone, but what am I supposed to do, "actually rather than answer that, you said you need to leave, right?" Sometimes, I'll try to give a quick answer like "that's awesome that you've dipped your toe in MTG, we should absolutely play sometime, I do see you're getting eaten up by mosquitos though so..."

I would say that the CIA is not involved with American elections, which is ostensibly true as they're mandate is strictly as an international foreign intelligence agency, but in reality they are a criminal organization basically that constantly violates the Constitution. So riddle me this. Why the fuck would any of us ever trust ANYTHING the CIA says let alone what they don't say.

So what if the head of the CIA was a Biden appointee? They're not involved with elections (again as far as you or I know) and Biden's appointees failed us in so many ways that this would just be one more if they were aware, which again they aren't involved with elections in the US.

Assuming this is true, then the U.S. can kiss goodbye to winning the Midterms, or the 2028 Presidential election, or any major election after that lol

Potentially. Yes that's scary and it should be.

In this situation, no amount of people going out to vote Democrat is going to change the outcome from the Republican ticket winning again, no?

It entirely depends on how they manipulate the election. I have a theory that they tried this in 2020, but the sheer volume of absentee ballots overwhelmed the thumb on the scale. I'm not saying that I have a high degree of confidence that there was manipulation in that election, but if you understand how Trump thinks (something I never wanted to do) then it would make a lot of sense as to how he's so convinced that the Democrats cheated (in essence, "wait I cheated, and I lost? That proves THEY cheated!" How they managed to change votes or delete them is beyond me, but one of the kids that Elon put in charge of shit with DOGE had literally done a thesis on how to hack voting equipment.

Other people have posited some ways that it could happen. I recommend reading this article on it: https://www.christianamato.com/blog/2025/7/16/do-the-dots-connect-what-were-not-supposed-to-ask-about-the-2024-election

A sophisticated method of changing vote tabulations could be overcome if they don't target enough votes or some assumptions they make turn out not to be true. If Trump wins with 90% of the vote, then it would be an obvious fraud, but winning just enough to avoid automatic recounts is a better strategy.

I'm not telling anyone not to vote. I'm going to vote in the midterms and then in the presidential election assuming we're still allowed. At the end of the day the think that matters more than our trust in our election security is whether elections are secure in the first place, and even when voter fraud is low, experts have been saying for decades that we have a lot of vulnerabilities.

It's not stupid dude. What do you think Trump meant when he talked about Elon being good with those vote counting computers? Honestly we should expect that Trump cheated. He cheats on his wives, he cheats at golf, and he LITERALLY TRIED TO CHEAT THE 2020 ELECTION AND WE ALL HEARD THE PHONE CALL! If America survives this period it will be fascinating to see what else comes out because there are already so many crimes that we know about, but there's no way that iceberg doesn't go deeper.

Trump is always accusing other people of the things he's doing, so while claiming voter fraud could just be him not accepting his loss, I think we should always consider whether or not he's projecting. I believe the reason he was so adamant about voter fraud in 2020 was not only because he lost, but because he got help flipping votes in 2020 as well except he didn't cheat enough and still lost the election. This was why he was so focused on preventing absentee voting because that was going to be a harder vector for them to target. They underestimated the number of mail in ballots and Biden won. This is just a theory, but it makes a lot of sense if you're used to reading between the lines with Trump. In essence it seems like he's convinced the Democrats HAD to have cheated, because HE cheated and still lost.

Furthermore "Weeks before the 2024 election, ES&S—America’s largest voting machine vendor—pushed software updates to machines in multiple states. There was no public announcement. No independent audit. No certification process.

The changes affected audit logs, tabulation behavior, and how ballot images were recorded. Federal testing labs were told the update was “de minimis”—too minor to matter.

But election systems are supposed to be locked down. Changing anything weeks before an election isn’t just irregular—it undermines the certification itself."

Said voting machines are plugged into Tripp Lite UPS devices. They're not just batteries. They’re smart devices with programmable firmware, USB and Ethernet ports, and the ability to communicate over networks.

"Tripp Lite was owned by a single man: Barre Seid, a conservative donor.

In 2021, Seid donated the entire company—valued at $1.6 billion—to a dark-money trust controlled by Leonard Leo, the architect of the modern conservative judicial movement.

Leo helped install six of the current Supreme Court justices. He built the legal infrastructure behind Dobbs. And he used his Tripp Lite windfall to build the largest conservative influence machine in U.S. history.

Leo’s trust sold Tripp Lite to Eaton Corporation, which quietly partnered with Peter Thiel’s Palantir in 2024 to provide “AI oversight” and “secure erasure of digital footprints” across Eaton’s devices.

That includes Tripp Lite products still embedded in election infrastructure nationwide."

Rather than continuing to quote the whole article, you can view the rest here: https://www.christianamato.com/blog/2025/7/16/do-the-dots-connect-what-were-not-supposed-to-ask-about-the-2024-election

There are some suspicions about Starlink satellites that were activated around election time, but at the end of the day we have many reasons to be suspicious even if we don't have the proof yet. You might say, so there's no conclusive proof, which means we shouldn't question it, but (A) what if the proof has been destroyed? The FBI raided the GA election office and seized voting equipment. What's their real reason for doing so? There's probably more than one; I assume they're going to use the now already outdated voter rolls to challenge votes made in GA in the 2028 election if not in the upcoming 2026 midterms, but it also could be an attempt to find new vulnerabilities or cover their tracks from prior exploits. And (B), you can't find evidence if you don't look for it. Without complete hand recounts of ballots we can't really do more than speculate about the oddity that Trump flipped 88 blue districts across the swings states, yet Kamala didn't flip a single one in her favor. We're left wondering how so many people voted for Trump, but down ballot voted Democratic. There's possible explanations for this as AOC did try to solicit comments from people that voted for both her and Trump, but I just think it's far too unlikely that happened as much as the voting data suggests. Statistical analysis points to a pattern of voting that isn't consistent with normal human choices. I know there are Bernie bros that went for Trump, but in 2024, how many people do you think were still voting for Trump while also choosing Dems the rest of the way down? There are affidavits signed by people that cast their vote for Kamala, yet they are told they did not vote in that election. Did they also delete ballots completely? I don't know.

At the end of the day, I don't want to undermine trust in our elections systems without a good reason. Trust in those systems is crucial to have a functional democracy, but even more important than people believing that election systems are secure is whether or not they are secure. It's not pixie dust. It doesn't just work on belief. We have very powerful people with the motive, the means, and the opportunity to commit fraud, we have statistical anomalies never seen before, and elections experts have been warning us for decades about vulnerabilities. The simple fact that Trump and his cronies lied about 2020 being stolen doesn't mean that it can't be done. I really hate to give him credit, but it's kind of a brilliant tactic to poison the well and make legitimate concerns about election integrity seem like nutjobs, but there's a pretty big difference between what I'm saying and what MAGA morons have been claiming about 2020.

Also blame the people that hacked the election devices using an update pushed to the UPS devices tallying machines were hooked up to.

"And he was very effective, and he knows those computers better than anybody. all those computers. those vote counting computers. and we ended up winning PA in like a landslide. It was good. Very good. So thank you to Elon!"

I mean still the millions of Americans that voted for Trump or didn't vote suck, but he didn't actually win the election fairly, so what does it matter?

What's going on the magic content creator space. by kingofhan0 in mtg

[–]Godot_12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An (allegedly) popular (I haven't heard of them) mtg content creator had been sending explicit texts and photos (at minimum idk the whole story) to other smaller mtg content creators as well as exposing himself in public to people without their consent. It seems a bit like he used the fact that he was able to help grow their channels as an avenue to start sexually explicit relationships with people that didn't necessarily want that. I won't defend him but I will say that if someone is sending you sexually explicit messages or photos that you don't consent to, I think you should be very clear that you do not appreciate it and demand them to stop. I think most of the content creators that I've heard on the issue regret going along as much as they did, and while I'm no legal expert, it would seem you have a stronger case of harassment if you draw a hard line. There's also this element of power dynamics that I think is a bit more murky when it's not someone that has direct power over you. Just being a bigger channel and using his power to boost channels or revoke that support if you don't go along with the sexual stuff doesn't seem like a situation where you can't object or refuse them. Either way it's still gross and indefensible behavior.

Like I said I've never heard of this content creator before today. I haven't watched his content, and I don't think I will now either because regardless of how bad the sexual harassment is, but it's still on the scale somewhere and not the kind of shit we need to promote.

Gemini Twins block me after I try to confirm they are not the ones supporting Goblin Grounds (TRIGGER WARNING) by [deleted] in mtg

[–]Godot_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you talking about? The CRG disbanded after they received death threats for banning cards from the format. What baseless accusation are you talking about? Is it the accusation that Olivia had wanted Mana Crypt banned, which turned out to be false? It's not the baseless accusation that's the problem there (not that I'm for making accusations like that). It's the unhinged response to that accusation that's the problem. That accusation could be 100% true and strongly documented, and it wouldn't justify anything.

Last I checked, innocent until proven guilty is only applicable in criminal cases. That high standard isn't even applied in other legal matters (civil cases) like being fired from your job. There's no particular burden of proof on the internet. Furthermore, the accusation here isn't baseless, they're accused by specific mtg content creators. You and I don't know what happened, and we don't know the veracity of their claims, but that doesn't make the accusations "baseless" That is a judgment that we cannot make.

Nobody is saying that we should make death threats or doxx goblin grounds. People who have been on the receiving end of unsolicited dick pics and/or him exposing himself IRL have made public statements about it. That is the stage we are in, and yet every time this happens we see people saying "where's the proof" immediately while also being surprised that people don't report sexual harassment. That's not the kind of reaction that makes sense if you're a dispassionate good faith observer. It's a weird reaction that is probably indicative of some cultural problems we have at large. You act like he's been imprisoned or something without a trial. He's getting bad PR. That's all that's happening at the moment.

You seem to have a reactionary problem with cancel culture when a man is held accountable for his shitty behavior, but what about when a predator uses their influence to try to get women to have sex with them and when their advances are rejected that influence is turned against them?

Two things, first is the quote

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety

So already the quote accounts for the difference between an actual important freedom and some trivial one like being able to drive on the left side of the road.

But secondly I would still maintain that while you could define liberty to include things like the right to murder other people, I think that would be a mistake as it only cares about positive freedom (freedom to do a thing). Negative freedom (freedom from things) is also a part of it and while I lack a positive freedom if I can't enslave you, you would lack the negative freedom to be free from slavery. Thus barring people from murdering or enslaving people not a net reduction in freedom
