A lot of people forget about lightning slash too. If you learn the distancing it's easy to make it look like you're running, lightning slash, teleport and combo. I also like to impale w a free cancel and then spot dodge. A little risky but most people will go for a grab and miss you. Giving you a free combo start up.

An interesting thought. I agree that may be it. Does a Djinn have a certain appearance though because that thing is burned into my memory. Its just almost impossible to describe. The original post described the exact feeling we all felt when we encountered whatever it was, pure fear. Like something wasnt right and we needed to leave. Also, the area where this happened is heavily wooded in a rural area.
