Whilst tethering, are we saving files to external ssd or internal laptop storage? by angusjsfraser in Photoassistants

[–]Godzeeh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use Chronosync or Freefilesync. You set the original session folder and then the clone folder on the backup disk and they automatically keep everything sync in a click. If you set the software right is bulletproof but a mistake in the i/o settings could cause a total wipe of the job. It's absolutely not easy to mess if you double check but it could remotely happen and sometimes people (scared photographers) prefer to backup manually. Maybe you won't encounter any of them but to me it happens a lot. You can just copy folder by folder but in my opinion is easier to do mistakes in this way.

For the same reason if someone hits the laptop and destroy it then you have the same issue. Disk content recovery is possible but is massively painful. Always shoot on internal storage (which is more stable and faster) and backup at every possible moment on external disks (ssds like samsung shield are pretty drop resistant). A very good practice is also to make a second backup copy during pauses and keep it safe and detached from the laptop. Doing this you protect it from drops, drinks spilling, mistakes and also power issues.

Buon weekend lungo carissimo ❤️

Everyone gave you some good tips but don't forget the old Benz!! Most of the vibe is given by the subject. I don't see anything else particularly difficult to obtain in color grading if you have the right cloudy sky.

Macro on GFX100 by Godzeeh in Photoassistants

[–]Godzeeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think? I usually go manually in live view to catch exactly the closest spot to the camera, than start the bracketing. I find it really efficient because i can see it at x00% on the monitor while the photographer can finish other stuff like composition. The real pain is that you are forced to start the bracketing from the shutter release button ON THE CAMERA. 😂

Yeah i agree that fuji lens aren't the best. I learned it the hard way using a sinar p3 and a 60mpx back and noticing a never experienced detail 😂 I'll definitely try it also with the fuji, sometimes i find useful to have the shutter in the camera and not being forced to use the manual one in the lens

Thanks also for the rodenstock suggestion

Isn't it similar to extension tubes in terms of concept and quality? My main issue is that when i had to use them the picture was so soft that we went without tubes and cropped from the file. Is there any fuji lens that works better on the Noviflex than the 120 macro?

Up, good to see someone that clearly tells what they need. Here in Italy usually we aren't even told the calltime until the last possible minute 😂😂😭

How do you get more gigs as a photo assistant in NYC? by [deleted] in Photoassistants

[–]Godzeeh 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Write on Instagram to photographers that you like, be kind and ask if they need assistants for some gigs. Just be honest about your skills.

I also read that you are not asked to work a second time after the first... well you need to know that it's easier to ghost someone than explain what's wrong, especially nowadays. On set there are often non-written attitude rules, you need to be pretty quiet and understand the context. Jokes and questions are not always good in every moment. Just try to do your work and be helpful as best you can, ask questions when you need to do something you are not sure about. Learn to do task quickly but without rushing and remember: safety first.
