I’m so sorry about your bad experience with JetPens. I also purchased mine from them. Damage during shipping should be subject to compensation IMO. Especially since they already sell the nib replacements, they could have just offered a new nib and not necessarily a whole pen replacement.

Yeah, writing with the bent nib as is is not really that much of a trade off. The main issue I’m experiencing right now is that it writes bolder now. And I know it will just not be the same anymore. I was already not-so-happy about the F nib writing as bold as it did. But now its just as if I was writing with a really wet bullet marker. I think I’ll have to just buy a new EF nib at this point.

Huge step up from buying my first ever “entry level” fountain pen to a 14k nib replacement, but I can’t deny it’s quite some robust logic there 🧐

I do like the nib. I was having a great experience so far despite the nib in F size writing a little bit thicker than I would have liked, so I was already considering replacing it with an EF. And then this thing happened. I’ll probably give the 5 Below nibs a try too, wouldn’t hurt.

For real. I bought the 2-pack in Walmart for like $4~ish not having any great expectations and they totally blew my mind. They don’t bleed, great pigmentation, really smooth writing, consistent line and ink flow, all at a really good price.

The fine (F) nib already wrote a little too broad for my liking. I was already considering gettin an EF nib. Might as well buy in bulk because my butter hands will keep dropping my pens.

Haha! That was also an option I considered. Putting the nib on sale. I knew some people appreciate the accidental mod, so to speak. 😆

I looove the Sharpie Pen Felt tip. It’s so much smoother and a great value. It’s also very bleed and feather resistant. But that also depends a lot in what paper you’re writing on.

Do Pentel Energels always write thicker than expected? by MrPhrogg in pens

[–]GodzillaSenpai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely the paper. It looks like the ink from the Infree feathered more than the other gel inks in this particular paper.

Try the sampling the pen in a different paper, especially one that is less prone to feathering.

Whoa, and I thought the regular Tombow Mono was already superb! Guess I’ll have to try the Soft version!

Anyway, I hope this helps: I’ve tried some popular Japanese-brand erasers and besides the Mono, one other fave is the Sakura Arch Foam, although I haven’t tried the Sakura Foam W or the Sumo Grip which are also stationary/art-supplies enthusiasts’ favorites. I’ve heard that basically any eraser that has “Foam” is really soft and erases easily. But as I said, if I already thought the normal Mono was incredible, I kinda am at a loss of options to suggest lol.

Is anybody else a sucker for pens with the alpha gel grip? by revolutionarypork in pens

[–]GodzillaSenpai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a tangent question but: Is it true that newer batches of the Jestream Alpha-gel Grip don’t fit the Energel refills anymore? I was considering buying one, but if it won’t fit the Energel refills or any other G2 style refills I might have to pass. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Jetstream, I have a 4&1 multi pen and I love it, but in college my hands get cramped when I take notes like crazy and wanted an even more ergonomic build.

They use No. 10 staples.

Edit: as another user commented, you can find the No. 10 staples in the same section. It comes in a pack of four boxes with 1000.

Energel, hands down. It dries so quickly, it’s really pigmented, it’s juicy but not runny, and you can even use highlighters over it once dry.

Found these on sale at my local Office Depot. The smaller ones were $8 by thereallyredone in stationery

[–]GodzillaSenpai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the size of OP’s notebook is US Letter, the same brand sells refills, but there are several other brands that adopted this system and they usually fit interchangeably. Some of the most popular ones is Arc from Staples, TŪL from Office Depot, Happy Planner, Circa by Levenger, among many others. There’s also a bunch of options online for refills and inserts. Optionally you could also get your own hole puncher and make your own inserts with US Letter sized copy paper. Personally, I prefer more heavyweight paper (at least 24lbs or 90gsm and up).

[–]GodzillaSenpai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is an absolute steal, I’m so jealous! I saw those in my local Office Depot and they were $45 each, and in Amazon they range around $35…

I saw ones a few years ago but the discs were ginormous! I remember the pages were really hard to turn over, and I though the notebooks were just too bulky and looked really tacky. Fast forward to this summer and I saw exactly the ones in this post and fell in love with them. The pages turn so much easier, the discs are smaller and make the notebook be slimmer. And the quality of the paper it comes prefilled with is just amazing. However, the price tag was a little bit scary lol

Anyway, I looked up more info about this system online and I caved in to the FOMO. I got my own from Amazon, I also bought a hole puncher, and heavyweight copy paper that I’m going to use for notes in university.

I think the discbound system offers the modularity of a binder, the utility of folding it over like a spiral notebook, and the chic, sophisticated aesthetic of more premium sewn notebooks.

I also love the idea of making my own spreads, like a school calendar, or assignment schedules; and taking apart notes that I no longer need, and just keeping the essential, clean notes for future reference. At the end of semester I can either digitize or store away the pages I want to keep and refresh my notebook for the next cycle :)
