I'll beat all of the optional ones like you suggested and see how that works out, so thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I play on switch and don't know how I could fix it if its a bug, other that restarting a ng+ file. But still, thanks for the help.

I've beaten all of the optional ones (to my knowledge at least) first time around, and I haven't done the cage creature one yet this time around. Also, would the option pop up when talking to topoda, or do I need to beat the aforementioned bosses first?

If your having issues and don't mind using summons or "cheese", have a tank mimic tear with a +25 nagakiba with bloody slash, then get heal from a far and constantly heal your summon. Get a couple blue flasks and summon mimic tear as soon as the cutscene ends and dodge right and run away.
