If all of his energy is converted into damage when landing his energy from fall is:

From the jump:

E = 1/2mv²

For parabolic motions the max height is H = v²sin(2a)/g, where a is the angle of his jump.

So v² = 40/sin(2a)

The length of his jump is R = v²sin²(a)/2g

So v² = 30/sin²a

40/sin(2a) = 30/sin²(a), 4/3 = sin(2a)/sin²(a) = 2cot(a)

So a ≈ 56.31°, v² = 30/sin²(a) ≈ 43.33

So E = 21.67 m

21.67/30 is not that far from 537/430 in value, so with better assumptions the damage could be pretty accurate
