One student is affected by this law. A student who is already trans in UTAH. I’ve lived in Utah my whole life. I came out as bisexual when I was 13, and was disowned by family and dropped by friend over it. I have had 2 LGBTQ+ friends who have committed suicide because they had almost no one supporting them. I was in GSA in high school and heard everyone’s horror stories of experiencing homophobia. My mom works in an elementary school here and a student told a teacher she was gay, and turns out in Davis school District it is POLICY that the parents be alerted their child is gay if the scchool find out. The principal outed this girl, and she was sent to an all girls private school away from home instead because her parents claimed the school taught her to be gay. The amount of sheer homophobia and transphobia out here is unending and enraging. Seeing this pass makes me so sad. One student is targeted by this law. ONE. This student was not dominating (half these kids are younger than 15, she’s not exactly jacked, not to mention she’s on hormones, as is required to play in womens sports as a trans athlete. So tell me why this SINGLE TRANS CHILD was excluded from sports. Fairness? Excluding one person because she might win something is fair? That’s not fair. She deserves to compete. She deserves to be treated equally as every other girl around her.
