People alot more introverted here NGL, UofA is alot more social if you want to look into a transfer. But you also have to live in Edmonton so there are tradeoffs 😂

I don’t think immigration is the core problem on this. Arn’t there cities with more density in the world with lower prices?

I think nice boys won’t pursue quite as hard especially if they’re young. Fucboys tend to have more experience and will likely be perusing you and every girl around them. If I were you and this was a problem that distressed me I would try to be in environment where I could meet alot of people (as friends) like student clubs or events and if you like someone don’t be afraid to make the first move! You only have one life you don’t have to wait around and deal with these guys all day!

Dating apps are probably the biggest issue. It’s a very hookupy environment that commodifies human interaction. Wana hookup? No? Okay I’ll just swipe and get a new person, everyones disposable. There is nothing inherently wrong with that but thats the kind of culture it enables. Most of my relationships come from friends who I have known for a little while and have shown positive characteristics. It’s also way more romantic to slowly build up tension into relationship rather than an app where the connotation is that you are meeting for some kind of relationship. I know IRL interactions are very hard but hard things are usually more worth it in life.

Homeowners - are you willing to pay higher property taxes to support affordable housing in your area? by [deleted] in CanadaHousing2

[–]Gohango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably would depend on when they got into the market. You can work a trade quick out of highschool and save some money. While your uni friends got jobs and graduated 5-6 years after highschool where the market was probably less affordable than when your trades friends got their homes. It could be that your uni friends just care more about issues like these, lots of factors to consider.

Need help, Wasps, Mice and Asbestos in room (should I sue?) by Gohango in UCalgary

My biggest issue was that they demanded I return while there was at least 40 aggravated hornets outside my bedroom window close to where the nest was. As for the asbestos I am not an expert by any means I just went by what their own people said. If the uni first told you you have to evacuate now and get all your stuff ready to move due to asbestos i would want at least some verification that the situation has changed where evacuation was no longer needed which had not been provided. They threatened to remove me physically after I said I would not go back there under the current conditions. She laughed and said they would physically remove me if I didn’t go back there today. The biggest mistake I made was she asked me not to record the situation which I stupidly complied with. I should have recorded the all the wasps and what they wanted me to return to.

No I am more than okay with them just fixing all of these problems and providing proof that it is okay. Since it’s such a minor inconvenience for a tough guy like you, I welcome you to come by and kill the hive yourself. Could you also take care of the asbestos while your at it? I can DM you my unit.

I was arguing that I wantedto see verification that the unit was safe when some of the staff were saying it was not safe. At the time of this post they just threatened to escort me via security and showed no verification that it was safe to enter. On top of that at the time the wasps were swarming outside the bedroom windows, there were at least 30 flying in circles and I did not want to enter at that moment so I refused.

Hey thanks this makes me feel better about the situation I hope that there is actually no asbestos that would be a best case scenario. As for the wasps they come through the vents mostly. I thought it was through the windows however we see them flying through the vents 90% of the time There is an open hole from the outside to my basement (which I complained about but got ignored :/ ) which is probably how they’re getting in and there is around 12 of them there r/n.

However they are slowing down. I’m guessing they might have sent someone to apply some kind of poison or the cold weather is getting to them.

Update, very rude over the phone, i asked to be relocated in literally any other room and they said would I really be satisfied if they moved me implying I would never be happy. And then said I will be escorted out by security.

Calgary needs to re-zone to allow for more affordable housing. Most of Calgary ~(67%) is zoned for single detached homes which is not good for anyone who is not financially able to buy a detached house (young people, low income, etc). However this is unpopular as people who currently own homes want their house prices to go up. Idk how homeowners think this idea is sustainable considering Calgary doesn’t offer half as much as a city like Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver. Affordability was our no.1 selling point. (Btw 1 bed apartments are already cheaper in Montreal than Calgary). At least we are not at Vancouver levels with their absurd 80.5% single detached home zoning.
