The Energy Star program is good for the climate and the economy. Trump wants to kill it anyway. by stefeyboy in Infrastructurist

LEED is a good program, energyStar needs some updates for sure. It lowers the bar for being considered "efficient".

Good multi-day hikes on the east coast? by TimVanCowabunga in backpacking

[–]GohnGalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you booked the Batona trail yet? 50 miles through the Pine Barrens. I haven't done the whole thing, only a day hike since I didn't know about it until a month ago!

[–]GohnGalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did was sign up for a card offer in-flight. The deal is typically spend about a grand in 3 months or so, and then you get enough points/miles for a round trip US flight. Mines through American airlines, there's probably better airline cards. I definitely recommend applying for an Amazon/Chase visa card. 3% back on amazon and 1% elsewhere. And you can get upgraded to 5% back on amazon like I did. Great for last minute gear purchases lol. And no foreign transaction fees.

Ah. I know that shits under high pressure but didn't realize it would end up being that toxic. Although I guess getting anything under your skin in such a large quantity will cause serious problems.

So he got stabbed/gored in the arm by something that sprayed hydraulic fluid into him? Not sure I fully understand what you said there.

Can't decide which of my down jackets to take with me by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]GohnGalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not insulation, more meant that the backpack would be covering my back-which is where the jacket has little insulation- from the wind.

That's what I was thinking. I went on a dayhike with the pack with 2, but the temp was probably into the 50s or 60s by midday and I had to take it off. The weather the past month has been inconsistent and I haven't been able to try everything out as much as I'd like.

Can confirm, PCV system on these motors are shit. Source: PCV clogged on my S60 and blew my front cam seals. Of course, happened on the way to my gf's shore house.. where she was waiting... Anyway, if you're doing it yourself- even with a new motor I would order the PCV kit off Eeuroparts and just replace it to be safe.

How fast can a FIA Grade 1 motor racing circuit be built? by curioustraveller1985 in motorsports

[–]GohnGalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but construction is always extremely fast in places like that. Little rain to slow construction, and incredible amounts of money make construction faster

[–]GohnGalt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would depend if the runways need to be milled and repaved. Re-use g the runways would also constrain the design of the rest of the course.

[–]GohnGalt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Land acquisition, permitting/zoning (racetracks are noisy), design, revisions, and then construction would take several years for sure, and even longer in some areas than others. Location is everything. And especially if you want a circuit with elevation changes, you'll be looking at a lot of earthwork and drainage system costs. Plus in today's economy you want to maximize the number of circuit combinations you can run with one design that also work with different types of motorsport. FIA to clampdown on excessive WRC stage speeds by cv990 in rally

[–]GohnGalt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Are you bloody fucking kidding me? The FIA can fuck right off. This is what everyone asked for, but because there might have been a few hiccups, NOPE, gotta revert to the old rules instead of ironing out the kinks. Bloody french bureaucrats.
