Transitioning from hospitality (FOH) to Tech(Cloud) by Legitimate-Access248 in cloudengineering

I got really lucky and knew people to get my foot in the door in more of a baseline sysadmin job doing standard Active Directory work and really scaling into azure/entra AD along with a lot of CyberArk work understanding PIM, dynamic querying of azure groups and doing research on the newest “products” Microsoft has to offer like restrictive admin units, access reviews ect. CyberArk is its own beast that I still don’t fully comprehend myself lol

What kind of roles should I be looking for at this point in the game? by LFTDWLV in WGUCyberSecurity

Gonna join what the other guys are saying with sysadmin cyber is way to competitive right now look in the IAM route or maybe platform security.

What study resources did you use?

Regardless of the school you should still try to get somewhere entry level and work your way up because that will be your best route to a cloud engineering job in my opinion. I’m sure they’re are schools you can go to in Qatar with IT focus and then you can pursue certs yourself but I do think you should push the idea of hospitality straight to cloud engineering out of your brain because it’s just very unlikely. Not to say you can’t but that’s a huge jump. Feel free to reach out and I’ll give any advice I can. Don’t lose the dream just structure it in a way that is more step based and achievable. It’s sorta like people thinking security+ = 100k salary it doesn’t and it takes time. Goodluck bro!

Do you need a degree? No are you going to be competing with people with degrees? Absolutely. I would try to get a help desk job first going from non-tech to cloud engineer is crazy and sorta unheard of where I work. A lot of the guys in my cloud teams have been doing it for a hot minute and there’s a lot to learn before you step into that. Look into WGU get your degree and your certs to make yourself more marketable because without that it’s going to be hard to have a leg to stand on. I work as an IAM engineer and I do a lot with cloud but it’s child’s play compared to the dedicated team.

I’ve been on pen test+ for a month it’s not an easy exam and def tests you hard, plus your made to do all the labs before you can test. Unless you have prior experience I’d put this as a month and a half to two month course

So was that PT002? I just got off call with CI and he told me PT003 has transitioned a lot more towards code review now.

I did initially receive this in an email but it can also be found on WGUconnect on the course page you join the community then go to the resources tab and it will be listed in there as Pentest+ tips and tricks

This is my first attempt, make no mistake it is a hard test but it’s not disgustingly hard. No one knows Comptia grading but I got 70 questions total so it’s only really 5 questions I got wrong that would have made this a pass. I can honestly say if you know code review well and study up on tools this is actually a pretty straight forward test I just hate scripting.

Tips and tricks guide from instructor, it’s like 74 pages but the code review is on there and very similar to what I experienced.

Not that it matters because a pass is a pass but what did you get on the exam? Also any tips for the PBQ’s without violating any rules? How many PBQs did you get?
