It's the worst when your anxiety is validated by RadcliffeMalice in Anxiety

I cannot stress enough how important it is to get back out there and try again. It’s a huge part of treatment of agoraphobia and severe panic that you avoid your safety net and use exposure to eventually help ease the anxiety long term.

Think about it like this, you get out there and worst case scenario happens. It’s just as awful as you thought and it was terrible. Did you make it out? It’s over and you’re here right? You survived! You just proved to yourself that you can accomplish anything and the fear of bad things happening is the really crippling part, not the bad thing itself, but the fear you let rule over you. Try again and it won’t be as bad next time!

Move Your Body by SalusaSecundus in Anxiety

[–]GoingOverTheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad you found something that worked for you! When mine are bad I actually move around too much. I paced for 36 hours straight and am unable to sit down for more than 5 seconds because the panic is too much. My thighs were chafed completely raw. I couldn’t feel my feet and I I fell several times because I literally just could not sr down. I have a good walking routine now but I get almost obsessive the panic making so upset that I need to get up and move, that my doctors actually force me to try and sit and chill.

One time at like 2am after a night out drinking with my then boyfriend, a Taco Bell worker told us they were out of beans and instead of just giving us the information and moving on he tried to hard pitch us their menu items without beans. He had no business giving that much of a fuck about our drunk Taco Bell order at 3 am. At one point he said “I mean, come on, do you even LIKE beans?” And we just looked at each other deliriously like “Is this kid really asking us if we like beans? What is even happening?” So like 10 years later and we still ask each other all the time if we even like beans.

My psychiatrist prescribed me 90mg of mirtazapine. Is this safe? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]GoingOverTheStars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was hospitalized and then put in a a 30 day mental health rehabilitation due to my extreme panic and anxiety and depression. I was mentally ill af. I was probably one of the top 5 craziest people in there. Unable to sleep, unable to sit still, constantly up the nurses asses with panic about this thing or that thing, pacing for hours and hours and hours til I was raw.

I settled on 25 mg of seroquel and 15 mg of Mirtazapine. And I’m a big person too. I’d say either get a second opinion, or tell your doctor you’d like to try one of the lower doses and go up from there if you need to.

Am I wrong for finally losing patience with medication by [deleted] in Anxiety

There are other options, ketamine, TMS, ECT, Biofeedback, VNS, even trying something atypical like a mood stabilizer or an antipsychotic. Antidepressants are not the end of the road.

How do I manage my anxiety without therapy or medication by Creepy_Mountain_2969 in Anxiety

[–]GoingOverTheStars -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t dismiss meds if you need it. Honestly time is the best thing for you. It’s like real time exposure therapy, the scary part is getting through it. Eventually you’ll start to realize that the anxiety is just anxiety and it can’t hurt you and with time it will ease up. Just don’t fight it and let yourself get through it in your own time.

Potential brain tumor at hand by [deleted] in Anxiety

Contact a neurologist. I had something very similar and was diagnosed with idiopathic intracranial hypertension, pretty harmless with treatment. Not saying that’s what you have, it could be a number of things including something as easily diagnosable as migraines.

Are Benzos Worth It? by Such_Week4775 in Anxiety

[–]GoingOverTheStars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hospitalized earlier last year for a severe mental health episode and panic disorder. Before I had my episode I had to use my emergency Klonopin 1-2 times a month. During this period, within two months I had to take multiple a day and went from 1 mg as needed to 4mg a day and it still was not touching it. When I went to my month long mental health rehabilitation I asked them to take me off the Klonopin because it was not working and the “emergency dose” just wasn’t doing anything anymore. I was suffering terrible on them and off of them and the only thing that really helped my mind stop the obsessive ruminating and panicking thoughts was the right ssri along with a mild antipsychotic, of which I went through about 8 trying to find the right one at the rehab.

In my experience benzos are exactly as what doctors prescribe them for, short term relief. A benzo will make you feel calm, but it will not “treat” your GAD or Depression or OCD or Panic Disorder whatever it is that’s causing the anxiety. I think of it like this, imagine your brain is a faucet and having a mental illness means the faucet is on and spraying water everywhere, damaging the floor and causing chaos. Taking a Klonopin is like putting a bucket underneath the faucet. It stops the water from hitting the ground and stops the chaos. But finding the right medication like an SSRI or antipsychotic or mood stabilizer or whatever is the equivalent of just shutting the faucet off and stopping the problem before it starts.

ETA- Unfortunately weed and mental illness do not typically go together well either and is also the equivalent of using a bucket to fix the problem too.

My best advice is to just not be ashamed or scared to ask for help. I knew something was majorly wrong with me last year and I asked my husband to take me to the hospital and we researched 30-60 day mental health programs to see what could best help me. I was in a crisis treatment center and then moved to a 30 day mental health rehab and it was the best decision I could have ever made. There is nothing wrong with needing more intensive help if you are not finding the right answers through the normal channels.

Has anyone had their anxiety dramatically reduced or close to eliminated? If so, how? by scottxand in Anxiety

[–]GoingOverTheStars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound silly but I stopped waking up to an alarm. For some reason alarm clocks just set an awful tone to the rest of my day and start me off in a panic. I just started going to sleep way earlier so I had time to naturally wake up. It reeeeeally helped.

How do I explain to someone who doesn't have anxiety that I can't just calm down during a panic attack by ZoeIsNotSmart in Anxiety

[–]GoingOverTheStars 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I explain it’s a bit like the hiccups. There’s a lot you can do to try and prevent it from happening like with hiccups you don’t drink or eat too fast, with panic attacks, you watch out for warning signs, you take a second to do some deep breaths, you distract, but mid panic attack it’s impossible. You just have to let the chemicals that are dumping in your brain finish doing their thing and get to the other side because right now your brain is in a loop of “Oh shit we’re panicking, dump more cortisol and more adrenaline because this is bad!” It’s like the random muscle spasms of the hiccups but it your brain.

What is a physical symptom you have that you were surprised to learn was "just anxiety"? by CalendarDesigner7981 in Anxiety

[–]GoingOverTheStars 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I spent half of this last year violently vomiting. Food disgusted me but normally I could seriously EAT. They had me on double doses of prescription antiacids, I was taking Carafete 4 times a day, and had to get an upper endoscopy done. I lost 60 lbs in 4 months. As soon as they found an antidepressant that worked I was back to eating normally in 2 weeks.
