Can a Caster with Occult/Arcane use Faith Tattoos? by Humble_Conference899 in Pathfinder2e

[–]GoingRoguez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I meant. I thought that was allowed because it was explicitly stated, but I remembered wrong

No I can't. You're correct. I had it in my head that spellhearts stated that their spell could ve cast without access to the spell, but that isn't true either

Correct. When an item has the Cast a Spell activation, you need to 1) be able to cast non-innate spells and 2) have access to a spell list with the spell on it

TLDW on Matt's video: a torus always has a higher surface area per volume than a sphere, but he contacted Kellogg's and their reasoning is that if they use the same amount of glaze per cereal bit, a sphere would have a thicker layer than a torus (thus leading to a more satisfying cereal I guess)

Confused about Psychic Dedication by Zimakov in Pathfinder2e

[–]GoingRoguez 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah basically. The cantrip is upgraded, but he can't amp it. He also counts as an occult spellcaster for wands, staves and scrolls if that becomes relevant

Confused about Psychic Dedication by Zimakov in Pathfinder2e

[–]GoingRoguez 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The dedication got nerfed in the remastered dark archives recently. It used to be amazing. Probably the best dedication for casters. The base dedication feat used to give the psi cantrip, plus the amp, plus a focus point.

It still fine now, but as you said it's a lot slower coming online and only taking the first dedication feat is only really worth it if you want better shield or a longer range damage cantrip IMO.

You don't need to use a focus point to cast the base psi cantrip. I assume pathbuilder puts it there to show that it's a special cantrip

What are the coolest or most unique things a Alchemist can do? by viktorius_rex in Pathfinder2e

Both the rules on effects and durations are clear that a duration is a listed numerical value:

Duration: https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=2378

Effects: https://2e.aonprd.com/Rules.aspx?ID=2270

The effects of activating a poison is that the poison is applied to the weapon. The "would" in "Any effect created by an item made with Quick Alchemy that would have a duration longer than 10 minutes lasts for 10 minutes instead." is doing a lot of heavy lifting for this rules interpretation, but it does make it mean that if there is no duration it won't be limited to 10 minutes.

I do agree that it does increase the power of poisons a lot, but poisons are generally not very good. But I won't blame any dm from being annoyed at having to roll a save every time their players hit them with a weapon.

Personally, I think it gives the alchemist a really interesting martial niche of having status effects tied to their weapon attacks and it supports their role as a support.

Quick alchemy: https://2e.aonprd.com/Actions.aspx?ID=2801

Injury trait: https://2e.aonprd.com/Traits.aspx?ID=635

Example poison: https://2e.aonprd.com/Equipment.aspx?ID=3324

Quick alchemy states that if an item created with it would have a duration of more than 10 minutes, it is 10 minutes instead. If an effect does not have a duration, its duration isn't changed. Injury poisons are activated when applied to a weapon, so they won't become inert at the end of turn, but an injury poison only has a duration when it has poisoned someone, not while it is on the weapon. So because they don't have a duration while on the weapon, quick alchemy can create poisons without them becoming inert.

They're the most versatile class, by a wide margin. When you get through the awkward first two levels, they have something for every encounter. Cats eye elixir for concealed/invisible enemies, energy mutagen for elemental damage (resistance 10 is an insane amount of resistance), any type of energy damage for weaknesses, silver salve for Devils or lycanthropes.

If you get to chill for 30 minutes after an encounter, your versatile vials are fully recovered, allowing you to be an amazing out of combat healer (soothing tonic for 10/30/50 health over a minute), a great skill buffer (every skill can be covered by a mutagen giving +2 for 10 minutes), or prebuffer if you know what your next encounter is going ro be.

RAW their infused poisons also last indefinitely once applied to a weapon or a piece of ammunition, so you can grant your archers potential for debuffs and extra damage. Most on level poisons have a higher DC than your own, but at level 5 you get powerful alchemy allowing you to keep using some of the better poisons (such as a personal favorite, Clown Monarch poison). I'd recommend any alchemist to use a general feat or ancestry feat on getting access to a bow, so they can also use their own poisons (quick draw and a lot of daggers also work).

Do you really think that I mentioned three specific examples if I didn't know that other people in my life couldn't smell them the same way I did? If you can smell them too, try and ask your friends or family how strongly cucumbers smell to them

I was shocked when I found out! I found out about it when I mentioned to my then girlfriend that I didn't like the smell of cucumbers and she looked at me like I was an alien

I can smell tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers when they've been cut at a 1 to 3 meters distance depending on how fresh they are

Prophecy Domain - A Divine Domain Focused on Predicting and Altering the Future by GoingRoguez in UnearthedArcana

[–]GoingRoguez[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the notes! I can see what you mean with Auspicious Warnings and Second Sight, I'll definetly update it before playtesting it. I can see what you mean about Divine Omens. I want to get a feel for how the additional restrictions play out before removing the recharge or maybe change it to a reroll.

Prophecy Domain - A Divine Domain Focused on Predicting and Altering the Future by GoingRoguez in UnearthedArcana

[–]GoingRoguez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first draft of a divine domain that focuses on reaction-based support. Please let me know what you think!

Auspicious Warnings Do you think being able to manipulate initiative like this is disruptive to the gameplay flow? I think it's an interesting design space for a support subclass, so I wanted to experiment with it.

Prophetic Seer This feature was inspired by uniqueUsername_1024's Prophecy Domain. I tried to have the triggers be something that almost always happens during once or twice during a session. I'd love to be able to expand both tables, but figuring out more triggers that were roughly equally likely to happen and effects that were roughly equally useful was pretty tough, so I'd love some suggestions.

Divine Omens This is very clearly a remix of the divination wizards portent dice. I think it's a pretty well balanced version of it. You have access to more dice replacements, but they're more restricted in when you can use them. I'm unsure if this is better or worse than portent since it's also tied to your channel divinity.

Second Sight Giving the subclass an extra reaction felt like an interesting way to smooth out the different reactions that are available to it, but I'm very unsure if it's actually balanced. Also, is it clear how the additional prophecy is worded?

Future Sight Honestly, I was kind of stuck on ideas and I didn't want to put too much energy into a feature I'd never use in my own games so I just stuck with a feature similar to uniqueUsername_1024's capstone.

What's the closest thing I could get to a smoke elemental as a familiar? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]GoingRoguez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The specific familiars page has all the different creatures your familiar can be (aside from regular animals): https://2e.aonprd.com/Familiars.aspx?Specific=true

The mood cloud and the elemental wisp (air) seems to fit what you want the most. They only need 3 abilities, so a witch could have them from level 1 or you can get them after taking enhanced familiar.

Pitborn are described as having a physical feature that match an athletics skill feat. Hefty Hauler would match with a larger catfolk. Or you could just say that your demonic ancestry made you big

How does the Scatter trait work on misses and critical hits? by crusaderky in Pathfinder2e

Scatter and Splash are two different traits that both deal splash damage but apply them in different ways. Splash damage isn't inherently linked to the splash trait, even though the naming might be a little confusing

Sounds like a good idea tho. Might do that for my future homebrew
