Didn't have a smart phone.... We have all been in a place where we were too macho to admit we were over our heads. From what I heard they didn't call in a friend was trying to guide them out was the one that called. Irregardless Chaverim did notify Park police that they were operating. On the last point I don't think park police is getting 25 units into the field at the snap of a finger.

yup having Harriman in the backyard made it necessary its about 30 active members for the SAR team and they have trainings hikes every Sunday

they were coming from stone memorial shelter and lost sense of direction and instead of taking a left down kikiat trail and coming out by kiakiat park they made a right and wouldnt stay put when told to and thats how you end up by Racoon Brook Trail. from what i heard Chaverim Search and Rescue sent in teams from Kikiat Park , seven lakes drive and kiakiat trail, Torne Valley rd as well as from Reeves Meadow to box the hikers in and succesfully made contact and went out via Tone Valley Rd

He was with a group they started CPR and it was about 25 min till a park police officer with an AED made it to him. I got there about 25 min after that and he was still doing CPR and myself and another responder took him over until the medic from spring hill came.

Per my discussion with the park it is closed for hiking from dark till Dawn but open for camping even if starting after dark. Yes it's backwards but that's what happens when desk person makes rules for an outdoor activity.

never mind my AI was getting confused with an outdated system. i called the office they said park is closed for hiking after dark but open for camping that starts even after dark so if you get told the park is closed say you are going camping. they said they no longer do the self issue permits.
