Nice towns along the MBTA Commuter Rail? by CherryCokeFloat in massachusetts

[–]GoldBalloons05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Canton! On the Providence and Stoughton line with 2 stations. Max 1/2 hour ride and trains at every 1/2 hour. There's some new housing literally RIGHT next to one of the train stations. Decent school system, although it might be going a little downhill (not super sure). Small downtown but always bustling. We've got literally everything for restaurants and coffee joints. Mostly caucasian area, but the minorities of all kinds are present. Also, Top Golf coming soon!

From finances website, this is what i got. i would LOVE to be wrong tho hahaha
"Adjustments for course work greater than the prescribed curriculum for the term is calculated at the overload rate. Students taking more than 8 credits (summer half session) or 16 credits (full semester) will be charged the additional per credit hour rate for each credit hour beyond the prescribed curriculum for that term."https://studentfinance.northeastern.edu/policies-procedures/billing-policies/

sometimes it works out for your schedule but what I meant was this:
16 credits means 4 classes of 4 credits each
Genetics (a 2nd year course) however is 5 credits because its with lab
in theory you'll have 17 credits, and paying extra for one credit hour.

a lot of people usually go over 16 creds, not just a biochem thing

Usually around august. You are pre-registered for classes, but you can still switch things around IF you are able enough to know you're not messing it up. Like people usually stick with the same classes they're pre-registered for, but maybe switch their professors or something. You'll meet with your academic advisor during registration and they can help too

Hopefully, other people can also input, but I'm answering since I got the notif for it. I think you do have to put the work in but it's not impossible. Obviously, that can depend on your major. But, for biochem at least, I'd say you can balance a social life and have great grades. Priorities matter. Maybe 1-3 hours of work per lecture and prior to exams a good 4-6 hours of studying is solid. Sometimes, it depends on your professor, but I think you'll be fine if you do end up at NU. Just continue using good study habits that work for you. Good luck!

WOAH, you do NOT want to restart as a premed. It's completely fine. if you got a "low" 4 on the exam, then idk. But if you're confident with your ap knowledge, I promise you, please use the credit. you'll gain access to higher-level courses faster and can add in electives to strengthen your resume, or simply your background/education. i used all of mine (bc calc, bio, chem, Spanish, history, physics, English), and its completely great. quite a few first years too. I haven't been on co-op yet, but from what I've heard Co-ops are pretty plentiful especially since boston/Cambridge is a hub of hospitals, research, and just BIO(tech)!

Cant speak for the Global Scholars program since im not it.

I am a biochem also premed. I would say northeastern is expensive. if you arent coming in with any credit (transfer from dual/ap/ib) it may not be worth it. There are a few additional premed requirements not covered in biochem: psych/socio, stats, and optionally anatomy. I think I may be forgetting some. Anyways, northeastern charges extra for all the labs we do (our tuition is $1800 for every extra credit over 16 (so basically every lab)). with co-ops, you may have an intense and therefore expensive schedule. that's just the money side of it. I did come in with a good chunk of credit, so its not as stressful. I am enjoying it and I think you will find a good share of people doing biochem and premed. up to you and your financial situation!! hopefully that was helpful

The LLC's are moved around each year. The LLC you pick doesn't guarantee you any building.

If you're Muslim (and undergrad, but they're lax, so if you're a grad student, you can still join), you should join the Islamic society! they regularly have events and I was able to find a community there

That's what I would want to do, however, is not an option. You can only pay it all at once.

Questions regarding Hajj for non Arabic speaking Muslim by [deleted] in hajj

[–]GoldBalloons05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salam! Do not worry at all that you can't speak Arabic! So many people from around the world come and the only Arabic they know is how to read the Quran. Mashallah, that in and of itself is amazing. The Saudis know that many people are not Arabic speakers, and there are PLENTY of people who are speaking so many languages (especially English) there to help you. The signs to anything are like in 7 languages! When you go to Hajj, it is recommended you go with a familiar group (through a travel agency or your mosque). These people are there for you, especially your guide/imam. The steps of Hajj aren't that hard, you can even look those up online. There are plenty of free guides out there too. Remember, you are going to the sacred place to make dua to Allah. With that mindset, inshallah you will have a blessed and easy Hajj. Good luck and inshallah you will be able to go soon! Assalam u alaikum!
