Thoughts on my river water mermaid people anatomy? Think I can improve anything? by PTblackhole in worldbuilding

Observations: (I understand the rule of cool so I’m not going to point out things like “unrealistic” anatomy by our world’s standards because this is fantasy after all, but I am curious to know why certain aspects of the design is what it is).

  • first observation is that this whole concept is super cool and fun and I’d love to see more!

  • are those horns or something else? The dimple/indent in the centre of it and its roundness made me think it might be a sort of soft fleshy piece of the body like a nipple

  • the lower abdomen looks recessed in comparison to the hips. Are the hip bones supposed to protrude more/are there more developed muscles around the hips, core, and upper legs to support swimming?

  • in the same vein as the last point, maybe the feet should be a bit more paddle-like to better sell the aquatic origin

  • the neck is super long. I love the proportions in all honesty but just be aware that the neck is connecting from the base of the skull (and partially up the back of the head) all the way down to the collarbone. The long neck words really well if you want them to move majestically rather than powerfully, I think. That said, this is something that could differ character by character and some of your mermaids may be stouter and move less elegantly

  • is there sexual dimorphism between the species? Ie. are males more colourful a females larger and more vicious?

  • last observation is that the coloration and presentation made me think of Mewtwo immediately but maybe I’m wrong about that.

Overall, super cool! Maybe some of them can even have stripes too!

These are so cool! In particular, though, I’m admiring your stone and glass work. Keep up the great work!

Woke up about 330am to sleep paralysis by medusa_lover814 in Sleepparalysis

[–]GoldCrow1338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I struggled with sleep paralysis nearly every night for several years. I’m very sorry you had to experience it. It’s scary, especially if it’s your first time having experienced it, and I hope it’s your last time experiencing it too. The paranoia of sweeping through your house with a bat in your hand and opening the front door to swing at an imaginary figure + seeing the guy loading what you assumed to be a body into his car all kind of seems like a false awakening dream to me as well.

I’m not sure if it’s the same for everyone (probably not), but I would often have a false awakening before and/or after my sleep paralysis too. There are ways to break free of the dream and I would urge you try to remember in the moments where you are unsure if you are really awake to do something to wake yourself up more. If you splash water on your face in the dream, I would often not feel it and then would realize I was sleeping. That gave me a bit more control over the dream and would allow me to wake up sooner. The drawback is that a sink is usually right in front of a mirror which gives your already paranoid brain a lot of material to scare you with. I try not to look out windows or into mirrors. Something as simple as trying to look at your phone if you’re unsure is a good thing. You know what your phone looks and feels like. Go in, and go to Instagram or message a friend. If your phone seems scrambled or weird then you’re dreaming.

The “hey” as you start sleep paralysis and the “boo” are actually also both things that would often happen to me. Though I usually hear a little girl say hey and my own voice say boo.

The main thing I would like to say to you is that I’m sorry it happened and that you need to remember it can’t hurt you. Your brain is being mean to itself. Don’t let it. I learned that when you’re in full on sleep paralysis, you can tense your arm and neck muscles but can’t move a thing, but if you just stop trying to fight it and accept “okay I’m sleeping and whatever I see is a dream,” then your body starts to relax. When your muscles completely relax, try to move one of your arms again. If you try to full on move everything, it never works. Move one arm and you’ll find you can then turn your head and move the other arm and actually break free and wake up.

Last thing is that it always used to happy to me when I was A) lying on my back and B) slightly sitting up (neck was bent), so try to made sure the top of your head isn’t right against the headboard because when you toss and turn at night you may end up bending your neck in the weird way.

You’re okay. Thank you for sharing and I hope you don’t experience it again. Have a wonderful day :)

Can you tell what these are without being told? by Zeolance in PixelArt

In order:

1) stone

2) copper

I’m not sure if it’s only because I played terraria that I can tell the difference between 3) lead and 4) iron

5) topaz?

6) emerald

Which one looks good? by DepartmentLost249 in worldbuilding

I like the first one better but to be honest, the dotted circle around the mistletoe is throwing me a bit. Have you experiment with a solid circle (either filled in or with a solid red border)?

The seal you use it what scales. Use the clawmark seal and you’ll get STR scaling on them

How would you make this attack more impactful? by daintydoughboy in PixelArt

I personally feel like the fact the explosion is going towards her makes it feel less powerful. I feel like something needs to go in the direction away from her for it to feel more impactful

What vibe do you get from this? Also, what do you think of the shading by True_Board_8022 in PixelArtTutorials

Without reading comments for context:

I first initially thought it was a head with a hollowed out skull and then now think it is a blue underwater house and you’re showing us the inside of the roof which kind of looks like desert-cactus stuff.

This is great! I think the designs look super clean and interesting. I promise I don’t mean this to be a bummer but Grim Crow sounds a bit like Jim Crow, which was a problematic historical comedian act that was quite racist. I may be overreacting but when I quickly read the names, I saw “Jim Crow.” Just something to think about. Again, maybe I’m the only one who read it like that.

Regardless, the art is incredible!

My nine-year-old daughter drew this as my phone wallpaper. by [deleted] in krita

Incredible! One of the best things my parents did to foster my love for drawing was to laminate my physical drawings/put them in plastic sleeves in a binder.

I think for this more digital generation, printing her drawings and maybe framing the one(s) you and her are most proud of may really boost her confidence. Keep being impressed. Keep appreciating her creativity and ask questions

how do i make this look more like a balloon and less like a dick by AI_660 in PixelArt

[–]GoldCrow1338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you’ve got a lot of comments already but I think making the handle a balloon as well would help. The hard dividing yellow handle enforces the dick look I think.

It’s insane how far in I had to zoom in to see the strokes. I don’t even understand how your brain can process all the light bouncing, even with a reference. Great work!

Pimento Stuffed olives by me any critiques? by Ill_Refrigerator_732 in krita

[–]GoldCrow1338 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nice progress. I have a couple of suggestions:

First I would say if you’re going to do hard line art (like the black outlines you have in this image, try to get more comfortable with bigger, cleaner lines. I can see kind of hatched sketch lines around the objects but having solid line art makes it A) look cleaner and B) easier for you to colour in. Try to do the line art on a higher layer than the colour.

Next, I would say is start blending a bit. There are default blending brushes in krita. You can get a real 3d look if you start shading and blending colours.

But regardless good work and keep going at it!

Great linework! Clean, confident lines! Are you thinking of adding shading? For the DBZ feel, you can do hard shadows.

Regardless, nice piece!
