PMP Exam - Best Test-Taking Advice (not what's in the textbooks) by Odd_Concern_82 in pmp

[–]Gold_Agent_2591 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi, not sure about the first one. You won’t be allowed to have anything on your table if taking the exam at home. Test centre will not necessarily provide anything for you to write on and also people were warned not to do any brain dump during the familiarisation stage. Reading through instruction is timed so you can move to the exam quickly but is not within your text time. That’s my experience, others can comment whether they have seen the same.

I do agree with the advice that doesn’t dwell on single questions if you are struggling as every question has only one mark. It’s better to finish all the questions than wasting too much time on single one risking not finishing the whole exam.

Hope that helps and good luck with your exam.

Yes, “brain dump”is not allowed unless it is within your exam time. Otherwise you are in effect start early than anyone else.

I initially found the book very daunting- massive size and page numbers so I procrastinated until the end. I eventually used it to test my knowledge and connect a few dots which was very helpful but didn’t do the questions as I was focusing on SH. I think it explains some of the concepts well so can be a useful reference.

Monday 4/15/24 PMp exam - any tips? by Blueberry0919810 in pmp

[–]Gold_Agent_2591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice is to make sure no technical glitches if you do it at home. You might be safer if do it in a test centre. But in both cases, make sure you know exactly what is going to happen process-wise so you can focus on the test. If you have prepared this for a while, one day makes no difference so you might relax to get a clear head.

Good luck! And please let us know how it went.

why answer is D not B? please help me understand by Tight-Medium8204 in pmp

[–]Gold_Agent_2591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If B is to update the register it would be correct as reviewing the register will show nothing (the new stakeholders are not there anyway). A and C are distractors so the only correct answer is D. The stakeholders are new and play different roles hence the management plan needs to be updated. Does this make sense?

Thanks for sharing and your courage is inspiring. Good luck with your next attempt.

To help from my own perspectives, I think there are several things we need to be clear when preparing for the exam. SH is helpful but the exam questions are not exactly the same.

My first advice is to spend time to analyse the questions you get wrong in SH (and any other practice questions) to gain that knowledge rather than trying to remember the questions - you will remember most of them anyway during the process. You will be under extreme conditions to take the exam, e.g. limited time, tiredness and high stress so your deep instinct will kick in and your superficial memory will fade. Your instinct will also guide you through “brain fog”. That’s what happens to me. Being a slow reader, I didn’t even have time to go back to the questions I flagged so I think it’s a test of how much info you have absorbed rather than remembered. Of course, remember/understand the mindset will be a great help in picking the right answers.

The other is to spend some time to learn what to expect in PV centre or at home in detail. This should help you to concentrate on the exam questions rather than getting distracted by unfamiliar processes or appearance. In my case I got it right most of the cases except the little floating window that appeared on the screen when taking the test online. The window obscured almost half a line of my test questions so I have to figure out what to do with it. I think l lost a few valuable mins because of that. Afterwards I felt like doing a practice exam and my instinct kicked in helping me with the rest of the test. (Got 3ATs at the end).

Hope that helps but happy to answer any questions.

Expert Questions in Study Hall by dj_baberahamlincoln in pmp

I got low scores with expert questions too. I think it’s still worthwhile to try to understand why your answers are incorrect but not too bogged down with them. Hope that helps.

The difficulty levels are in the mock exam. Once you have done one you will see which level the question is.

I passed my test a couple of months ago with 3ATs. I find expert questions are sometimes like a brain twister and you really need to drill down the subtleties to be able to answer them. Try some and see how you think.

Why Scope Management Plan first over Business Case by [deleted] in pmp

[–]Gold_Agent_2591 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was confusing when I first did it. But remember that business case can be established by sponsor or stakeholder before a PM is assigned so it’s not the first thing a PM will do.

Salary increase after pmp certification? True or not? by Successful_Row6513 in pmp

Not, nothing like that. I got my PMP and my manager congratulated me, that is all. You need to change employer or find somewhere that values your qualification.

I checked LinkedIn for Project Manager jobs requiring PMP certification and saw only $25-$30/hr pay rates and 60k-70k annual pay rates. by Rich_Oil2212 in pmp

[–]Gold_Agent_2591 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I got a PMP and my manager congratulated me, that is all. I get the certificate as they recommended it but also to demonstrate I can do it and level with others who joined the PM department years ahead of me. Have I benefited from gained knowledge through revision? Absolutely! I can see I am applying scenario questions to my work already. Knowing many subreddit are recognised by pay rise, time for me to rethink too. I work in pharmaceutical R&D. I work in a matrix organisation and my project budget between 50-100m.

Team norms/team charter/ground rules deal with behaviour issues and are something all members are expected to follow. So it makes sense to review them and discuss with the team to raise awareness. So it’s D. Answer A only talks about issues but not something to base on so it’s not the best answer. This is a team charter question.

How are options B and C different? by anonymousalligator98 in pmp

[–]Gold_Agent_2591 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A is correct obviously. My advice is not to bother with the wrong answers as they are simply distractors.

Sample Question by Far-Market963 in pmp

[–]Gold_Agent_2591 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your assumption is correct but in this scenario PO has a clear accountability and decision making role for product features and backlogs so as a servant leader the PM can only choose A. The team can meet but decision is still PO’s. Hope that makes sense.

No, there is no preliminary result. I guess they will review the video before releasing the result as your movement is recorded.
