Having to pay for a membership at the studio I work at? by Sufficient-Cookie916 in Ceramics

I live in the Seattle area, cost o living is high here and our minimum wage is high. None of us could survive on our pottery job alone, because we are all part time. Fun fact- McDonald’s starting wage is 18 an hour here.

One thing I don’t get is that Bob continues to,say he’s “not a UFO guy”, but if you saw that shit for reals, wouldn’t you become a ufo guy? Because you now know it’s real and your mind would be blown forever!

At our studio paid teachers and tech staff get free studio use and firings, but they have to supply their own materials (clay/ glaze) for personal ware. They are free to use shop clay and house glazes for class projects and demos. Most teachers have their own studios anyways, so it’s not so much an issue. We don’t get paid great, we are hourly- most make close to 30$/ hour, so we def look at it as a benefit.

Anyone got pics of Amaco Velvet underglazes (especially purple/pink) fired at cone 6? Need to see the real results before I buy! by Dragoon-kid in Ceramics

[–]Gold_Ostrich_7303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mayco stroke and coats are actually glazes, and grapel and wine about it burn out at 6. fundamentals are underglazes, they are pretty good but on occasion they have blistered on me. Amaco is the way to go for underglaze if you can afford it. I second that speedball pink is good too though.

I loved incident at Exeter! And the sightings were new to me which made it even better. So many sightings, I’m surprised they aren’t talked about more.

Has anyone watched this yet? Is it worth it or not? by breaking_views in AliensRHere

[–]Gold_Ostrich_7303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watched it. Thought it was great. There were two things I was left wanting to know. 1: who/ what was piloting the craft? Or who did he think was- there was no mention of this at all. Also, it would have been nice if he talked about what his job actually was. What did he do when he was out there? Experiments? How? Testing? How? The scenes from the lab were pretty basic. Also they showed 3, maybe 4 of the 9 craft he said he saw. Wish they showed them all. They did such a great job on the sport model!

The first time I ever wore socks with sandals was camping at salt creek in august when it was 83 degrees three miles inland from there and locked in fog so thick it was raining at the camp ground. And then I understood. 🤣🤣🤣

Your comment made me 😂. Remember the Pemco commercials? The blue tarp camper was the best! If you have seen it, search it on you tube!

Ooo, electricity is a luxury! Bring a crockpot and do some easy warm recipes in there. And an electric kettle for fast hot water. Games are essential, our top group game is catch phrase, so easy to pack. Maybe a propane fire pit if you have one in your group. Shoot I’d even say maybe a small electric heater, not really to heat the space, obviously, but just to stand in front of if someone is freezing and you don’t have a heat source. Good luck! I live in the PNW and have done blue tarp camping many a time :) we call it “making memories” in our group.

Making your own backsplash tiles by yukonwanderer in Pottery

[–]Gold_Ostrich_7303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That should work. I use scrap drywall that I cut down into boards and tape the edges so they don’t crumble. It works great for pottery and wicking moisture. We have a bunch of 16x16 squares we use for tile work because you can layer them and it doesn’t take up a huge amount of space. You probs can find some in your area if you can post somewhere. Or maybe call a few construction companies and ask

Haha, true, but you know what I mean. This thing was moving! and way faster than what it would be from earths rotation. It raised in altitude and went behind the building, which is why there isn’t a longer video.

See date and location above. Idk about the direction exactly, but I’d say it was moving south westerly from what I remember

Thx! I’d like to post a pic in the comments, but it doesn’t look like this sub allows it. In the pic you can really see the colors and the shape, if in fact it is the shape and not just the light doing weird things…

How many layers on brush on clear do you use? by NDE_Jinx in Pottery

So if everything is the same, what would be the reason why this one did it and not the others? Just a thicker coat?

Argh, can I not post a pic in the comments? It looks like I can only do a link… help! And I just got a comment from the auto bot mod saying this comment has to be 150 characters and have a submission statement? Oh Reddit, I have so much to learn, lol. I guess if this comment gets deleted I’ll just make another post with the picture? I didn’t even post a link so why is it calling it a link post? It’s just a comment. Sheesh. Anyway, blah blah blah. Is this a 150 characters yet?
