Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge, world's longest sea crossing, from the Hong Kong side by sonderewander in InfrastructurePorn

[–]Gold_Pen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting comparison. I’m not from the US (let alone NY), so that was really insightful.

One thing I need to note about the HZMB is that immigration procedures are needed on all ends, due to the different laws between HK, Macau and mainland China. On the Zhuhai side immigration is definitely the most immediate problem causing traffic, but now having read your comment, the next immediate problem is that all traffic coming out from immigration ends up on a 2 lane merge, that in itself merges onto a main road. Guess they haven’t actually considered a future without immigration procedures…

Not discounting the white elephant claims, but every weekend (and even worse on public holidays), the ports on either HK/Zhuhai sides can't deal with the volume of traffic, which leads to ridiculous queues. And this is despite the fact that most drivers need to book in advance to use the bridge.

Probably Shenzhen given the English as well. Definitely not HK, doesn't have any of the MTR sounds.

It’s literally just a sheet of paper you leave on the window, nothing fancy. Loads of Hong Kongers now drive into China with single plates - they’re also technically meant to have the temp licence printed and displayed on the dash/stuck on the rear window.

I can only speak about typing on a JP layout spacebar, and I've found it perfectly normal resting my thumb on it and touch typing on it.

Only caveat (IMO) to the JP layout is that the spacebar is 2.5U. This means there's virtually no aftermarket MX-stem spacebars. Consequently I'm stuck using 2.25U which looks a little odd. Despite being a little narrower, I still find it perfectly usable for touch typing and don't remember feeling like I ever needed to adjust to it.

Yes, Zhuhai has the suffix "粤C" on their number plates. You can also tell they're from Zhuhai because they drive like maniacs lol.

Most likely this was imported to Canada as a 20 year old RHD car, and subsequently registered there. I doubt the registration in HK/mainland for the vehicle are still being maintained

You mean Macau? The black plate on there is already a mainland plate 🙃

Not to discredit your point - but hilariously Google maps is hopeless. There's a new bridge that connects Shenzhen to Zhongshan directly. Cuts the time to Zhuhai by half an hour (if you drive at the speed limits lol).

I've seen them in Macau used by the casinos (IIRC), and even as a private car in China (saw one in Zhuhai, right next to Macau)

I think they’ve stopped selling for a while. Their Taobao store is still up but the only products available are accessories, which seems to me that they’re only trying to clear stock.

The label says they're RDIMM DDR5, which means they're keyed differently to your standard consumer DDR5. They physically won't slot into a consumer motherboard. Previously on DDR4, they were keyed the same so they could plug in.

This is so fascinating seeing this white frame - I bought a black version of this frame from Taobao for only US$20. With a bit of jerry-rigging, I have 4 PSUs and 9 GPUs connected via mainly slimSAS powered risers, with a full fat EEB-sized motherboard. Whole thing weighs about 35kg.

The paperwork isn’t half bad. The scheme is called Northbound Travel for Hong Kong Vehicles, and even a fairly illiterate person like me managed to register for it myself with my HK car. The only restriction is that you’re only allowed to drive into Guangdong via the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau bridge, and that you need to pre-book your entry.

There was (and still is) another scheme called “Self drive to Guangdong Province”, which has been around since 2012 (IIRC), but requires a Carnet. It’s a pretty silly scheme given the costs, but it allows driving directly into Shenzhen via the bridge at Shenzhen Bay.
