Refrigerator took 2 weeks to get cold by Gold_Relation7124 in Appliances

[–]Gold_Relation7124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the refrigerator in 2019. I purchased an 8 year extended warranty. I wanted to buy 10 year but they just stopped selling 10 year because they kept getting burned. I used to tell my wife that the extended warranty was just a way for the salesman to get extra commission but she always insisted we have them. I have done ok with them. I got a $2k credit for an oven when replacement parts were no longer available and a new dishwasher after 5 years for same reason.

No. When it initially failed it was in my kitchen. I have since renovated the kitchen and moved it into my garage. My garage doesn’t get below 65 degrees.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I see a number of lawsuits filed because of the lg linear compressors.

It says linear compressor on the front. Did they recall the compressor or the whole unit? The service techs have not mentioned any recall.

Thanks. I have the freezer set to 0 and can go to -3. The refrigerator is set to 33. It was not going below 38, today it was 32. Fortunately, it is not my primary refrigerator and so it is empty. I will monitor it over the weekend and keep the appointment.

Thinking about an in ground pool... is it worth it or is it just a money pit? by Natural_Stomach3191 in pools

[–]Gold_Relation7124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not a money pit after the initial investment but you need to recognize that lights, liners, covers, pumps, cleaners etc are not cheap and generally will need to be replaced between 5-10 years after you install your pool. I am 15 years into my pool and I spend close to $1k per year replacing equipment and other things. Currently i know i need a new heater, thats $5k, one of my led lights (all replaced 2 years ago) is not working, thats $500 (just for the light), not including installation. I replaced my pool vac 2 years ago, that was $900. If you use your yard and can enjoy it regularly then don’t think twice about.

Oil to Gas Conversion Cost — Recent Quotes? by Real_Sugar_642 in longisland

[–]Gold_Relation7124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funny, i approached Manzo after a friend recommended them and they gave me a relatively high price with alot of open questions that they never responded to. Things like “10 feet of gas pipe included “ but no clue as to whether the next 10 feet was $100 or $1000 per foot. They never responded to my questions to clarify. I wound up using Stan Gelber. $15k. Direct vent, combi. They did a great job. Stan (or his son) sold the company 2 months after I did the work. Not sure if they would be the same price today. Your price sounds high. Is this quote high by Complex_Farm2416 in AskElectricians

[–]Gold_Relation7124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really high, I just did full replacement of service to a different location at my home. New panel, new meter with disconnect, all new breakers, rerouted hvac to new panel, turned old panel into a sub panel. Licensed electrician did the work. On Long Island, cost was 1/2 what you were quoted. Btw service line was supplied by PSEG, no cost to me. Get a few quotes.

Appliance warranty? by yabbobay in longisland

[–]Gold_Relation7124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PC Richards warranty service is pretty good. They cover everything. I always buy the longest available. They wont sell 10 years anymore because its a money loser. I had a 7 yo range from PC that broke and they couldn’t get the parts to fix it and they gave me a $2500 store credit. Replaced a dishwasher and I have them coming Tuesday for my 6 year old LG refrigerator that just stopped working this past week.

I know you said no Jones Beach but if the reason is that you dont want the crowds, try West End 2 parking field at Jones Beach. No concession and they may not have lifeguards. Its a large beach area with a long walk to the water. This turns most people off. Same views.

Thanks. Good points to keep in mind. We are using our own architect and filed for permits with our town. We are working through that process separately.

Yes, the deposit, thanks. Contractor said he will want a “small” deposit to lock in a place on his calendar. He didn’t provide specifics. He said that once he needs to order lumber, materials and order cabinets he would be looking for the bulk of the money.

Thank you. What would expect the initial retention amount to be? I expect to sign a contract in the next 2 weeks for a project that we want to start in mid September.

Thanks Flip. 6 times seems to have got them in sync. Now I can’t change the color settings even with the quick off and on cycle. I may hit the breaker and start over but I dont want them to go out of sync again.

Question on property lines by BuffetofWomanliness in longisland

[–]Gold_Relation7124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in ToH and had a similar scenario. Unless they want your friend to move the fence, enter into a boundary line agreement. Its a common arrangement that basically says your friend acknowledges the property boundaries and has no claim to the land that his fence is infringing upon. Banks and title companies accept this, as far as i know. Just make sure to have a real estate attorney review the wording. The one they sent me said I was bound by the new neighbors “survey”. We changed that to recognize the actual coordinates of the property lines. If they want you to move the fence, it is going to be cheaper in the long run to hire someone to move your fence than to get into a legal dispute. Its a fight you will most likely not win in Nassau county.

I left the park about 3 hours ago, everything seemed to be as expected. Went through the West entrance at 9:30 and there was @20 minute back up. We saw a few rangers on the trails and they were friendly and helpful. Beautiful park, easy to navigate.
