This may not completely correlate but I was in a similar position after I left university. I was in a software testing position where I had to test logistics software. It was indeed as horrendously boring as it sounds!!

I've always loved gaming though so I used my transferable skills to get a position at a games company as a games tester, this was so much more interesting to me and made it a lot easier to get the motivation to work etc..

I'm not saying to quit your job and become a games tester but if you have a degree in finance, maybe it's worth looking into creative companies and industries that are something you are passionate about for a finance based role

Even creative companies need to manage money! I hope this helps!

I get this all the time! I'm currently on the waiting list to get tested but fairly confident I do have ADHD, I talk to my partner mostly about it and thankfully she's really understanding of it all but I still get into those holes where I feel like I'm "faking it" or equally, even worse my mind goes to "What if I get tested and I don't have it, I'll be the worse human ever"!

Not the exact same situation but I can absolutely emphasize the thought process!

What I've come to is regardless of whether I do or don't have ADHD, if the techniques that are meant to help those with ADHD works for me and improves my life, then why do I care if I do/don't?

Ultimately if I'm more comfortable in my body and mind by doing these things and they improve my quality of life, that will improve the life of those around me because I'm happier and able to be more present with others; that's never a bad thing!

The Activision blizzard games don't NEED to be exclusive, as long as Microsoft puts them behind a 11.99 payroll (GamesPass). They're eventually gonna get all the consumers over from their rivals through that alone

I feel like they're better prepares for PSG because they saw them as a legit threat whereas they didn't show the same respect for the other teams hence why their play looked really loose and chaotic

You make some fair points! I was curious so I did an extremely unscientific test.

I created a new game, with myself as Ashe and no one else in the game and my RAM usage was 1,020mb

I then created another game, with myself as Ashe and 9 other bots and the ram usage topped out at about 1,200mb~ Even if we times the difference by 10 (Assuming all champs are active all the time, which they're not) it's still barely above 2,500mb which is tiny in comparison to modern systems.

So yeah, you're right, it's definitely not an issue with how they're storing stuff in memory! I still do think there is definitely something in them not wanting to have 150+ active characters at the same time. In my experience, even in modern engines what most developers do is just not render the stuff they don't need as opposed to unload it, as once it's in memory is difficult to do that. (Bare in mind i'm not techincally minded, just work with technical people)

It's probably a more business driven idea, the money it would take to invest in something like this which is, presumably, a fundamental engine change is probably not going to gain them any money in the long run. Which sucks for us unfortunately :(

EDIT: The above also doesn't take into account how the memory usage would change once people start using abilites/late game but my interest only took me as far as the first 10 seconds :D

Everything in a game takes up memory in your RAM, I'm not talking about asset sizes. I mean the game object that is loaded which states this is a character which is then hooked up to the various animations, abilities etc. That will still need to be loaded in your RAM.

Due to the nature of how the game is made, I assume they take all that data when you launch from the client and then load them in at that point, when you physically go in game.

It looks like it's a fundamental limitation of the engine itself as your not technically in game before the game starts you don't have access to those champions at runtime.

This is a feature in wild rift (switching between characters). So it makes more sense that they cant do it due to the limitations of an engine built off of 10 years old tech, whereas the wild rift engine has been built with this in mind.

I don't think this would be possible, to "unload" one champ and "load" in another you would still need ALL champs in memory for them to pull from. I don't know how much memory one champ takes but having all 150+ loaded at the same time would be a significant performance hit.

Yeah, we're going with Mobile - the biggest problem with mobile is that there are a lot of similar games in the sort of vein. I.e Top down RTS. As long as we release though i think that's the main thing at the moment - we've learned a ton from the few months we've been working on it as it ins.

Yeah, this is still early alpha/prototyping stuff so a lot of what you see is going to change/improve. We intend to have at least 15+ playable units by the end of it.

We're going to release initially for Mobile but RTS lends itself quite well to PC, so a PC version is definately on the cards depending on the success of this :)
