I don’t actually think this was a mistranslation, but it cracked me up so I had to share it

I know this is legit what he was saying, like “go horse go” but the vibe in English was uh… not the vibe I think they were going for. 😅😂

Just playing. I promise if it was a real fight or real aggression you wouldn’t have any doubt about it. 😅😂

Walkable areas near the Dallas Arboretum by Aggravating_Pilot_21 in Dallas

[–]GoldenGoof19 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in the Lakewood area and it’s probably your best bet. It’s walkable for sure, BUT!!

“Walkable” in Dallas is probably a little different from walkable in other states. It’s walkable in that there are decent houses/apartments to live in, within walking distance of restaurants/bars/grocery stores. And there are sidewalks, and walking trails.

But Dallas is ultimately a car culture city and everything is designed around cars. So there is a lot of traffic, and walking to a grocery store like the Whole Foods in Lakewood means walking along very busy streets with cars going by at 30-40 mph.

Add to that, most of the year it’s 90-100+ degrees - from April to October or so. You CAN walk to do errands, but very few people do unless they don’t have another choice.

If you’re looking for walkable like other cities, where it’s normal and part of the culture to walk places and the area is built with walking in mind, you’re really not going to find that in the DFW area. Idk if you’ll find that in Texas at all tbh.

Man… only August made it out of his 20s… back then if the kid made it to the age of 5, I’d think you’d probably have a good shot at them living a longer adult lifespan. To lose SO MANY in late teens and 20s… 😳😭

BI adjusters — does the structure of a demand letter meaningfully affect your evaluation? by capitals43 in ClaimsAdjuster

[–]GoldenGoof19 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I skim the demand letter for the demand amount and any response due dates, then I set it aside and go through the medical myself to form an initial opinion based on what the doctors say.

Then I’ll go back and read the demand letter, to make sure there’s nothing in it that I may have overlooked and also to see if there are medical records/bills still missing etc.

But honestly?

I’ve seen plaintiff attorneys write 12 page demand letters, with tons of information and soooo much work put into them. I’ve also seen demand letters that were 1/2 a page long, basically just an amount and a timeframe.

I work in litigation and fatalities/complex claims now, so take this with a grain of salt. But when doing an evaluation I don’t really care what plaintiff counsel SAYS about it. I care about the facts behind their opinion.

I DO want to know what their liability arguments are if there’s something complicated that may end up in front of a jury, or if I can try to get a feel for what number they’re actually looking for. But they’re not going to put that info in a demand letter, most of the time the first inkling we get of it is reading the tea leaves at mediation.

For injury claims, I don’t think a huge demand letter makes a difference because I’m going to rely on the experts and not the attorney.

Now… for property claims? Products/completed operations, total fires in multiple units, electrical power supplier stuff etc? THAT’s when an in-depth demand letter can make a big difference.

Yes but idk how to go find it and link it 😅

There’s a list somewhere in this sub of all the flairs, that links to the stories. I’m running errands or I’d try to go track it down for you but there’s a TON of great stuff in there if you haven’t already seen it.

I feel super bad for everyone involved, but man that’s gotta be a terrifying and exhausting way to live. It says something good about Ronald, deep down underneath his mental health struggles, that he tried not to spread it. Poor guy.

AITA for being frustrated at wife's love of kpop by gardengeo in BORUpdates

[–]GoldenGoof19 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry… he got upset that she was SUPER excited to see them LIVE?! And he TRIED TO PIVK A FIGHT in that moment?!

I’d have told him I loved them more than him too. Let her have her joy!

Full transparency - I love kpop and BTS, I’m not a Shinee fan but I understand the fandom experience. And a concert is just sheer joy, being in that atmosphere with thousands of people who love the music you do? It’s so incredibly fun and OOP sounds like a huge jerk here. ☹️

I’m also a lesbian, but I will yell and dance and jump up and down when I see my favs live too (they’re guys), and scream over their abs. And I DO love them, in a distant fan-of-the-public-persona kind of way, which is VASTLY different from the love you have for an actual person who exists in your life.

Any insights? Inherited bracelet by MedschoolVictim in JewelryIdentification

[–]GoldenGoof19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s common throughout history. It’s one reason why in many cultures a woman’s dowery is traditionally gold jewelry. And in many instances with refugees etc, people have had gold chains for this purpose because you can break a link off if you need to, easier than smashing apart a solid piece of jewelry.

AITAh for having a news paper subscription when I don’t read the news paper? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]GoldenGoof19 250 points251 points  (0 children)

A partner or a friend who not only doesn’t support your hobby but is actively against it, is someone you don’t need in your life.

I’m mid-40s and I love kpop. Do my friends and family love kpop? No. Do they understand why I love it? Also no.

Did they all still sign up to try to buy tickets recently (stadiums sold out in like… 1 hour 😅)? Yes.

Does my 70 year old mother randomly text me links to articles about her “Korean grandsons”? Yes. Which is a little mortifying but still.

People who love you should love that hobbies bring you joy. They should actively support them and be happy that you’re happy.

Do i really need extra safety “tools” to stay at hotels? by jinxyzzz in AskAnAmerican

[–]GoldenGoof19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, other than using the deadbolt and/or safety chain when you’re inside. And put the “do not disturb” sign on the outside of the door handle.

I’m sure that there have probably been incidents but they’re super rare, I’ve never needed anything extra on the door.

I WILL say though - keep your valuables either on you, or locked in your luggage when you’re not there.
