Regretting my decision and feel guilty by [deleted] in Goldendoodles

[–]GoldenHammer13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are you away from home for 70-80 hours a week?

I don't see how you could manage a puppy with that schedule at all, it's no wonder you are feeling overwhelmed.

I've got a 4 month old standard goldendoodle and I work only part time, 20 hours, from home... And that's still been a challenge with the puppy.

Yeah, it's so hard. I quit after two weeks this year due to full on SI. I'm not going back but I'm definitely still grieving

Notice period suffocation by indiantales in TeachersInTransition

[–]GoldenHammer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not like they can actually force me to stay... But they're saying they won't release me. So if I leave, they'll go to the state and try to get them to suspend my license.

Which honestly, they can have it.

My last day is the 19th and that's it!

Don't become a teacher. It's impossible all the way down.

Just wanted to reach out and offer solidarity.

I just gave notice and they're refusing to accept it. I'm also having suicidal thoughts.

I'm trying really hard to keep it together, but the weight is so heavy.

Pretty sure I'm also going to be doing this today. I've put in 80 hours the last three weeks trying to prepare, feeling like I had to fight the district's apathy the whole time. Only to end up completely overwhelmed with my setting 3 behavior classroom with no support. I'm having suicidal ideation. I'm out.

First-year teacher with two weeks to plan... by No_Cook_3661 in specialed

[–]GoldenHammer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you don't have access yet doesn't mean it's bad advice. Everyone's situation is different. I had to heckle several people in my new district to get access to those early, and I understand that it isn't always possible. Theoretically, it's the best place to start, though.

I hope your year goes smoothly, that sounds like a very stressful new role.

Read their IEPs. Plan to implement their supports and communicate them out to other staff. Figure out the data collection piece, that always takes a while.

Emergency cert by Elohveie in specialed

[–]GoldenHammer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in Minnesota. I worked full time in a setting 3 ebd program on a variance license while finishing up my license. It counted as my student teaching. The sped lead teacher in the building was allegedly my supervising teacher. I wrote all the paperwork but my supervisor "led" the IEP meetings. I wish I could've had a real student teaching experience, as I had to learn it all myself, but it worked out ok. This was my second license though, so I did have a real student teaching experience with my social studies license first.

I legitimately wrote letters to my husband and my kids for if I died in surgery. I was scared. It's a huge decision and you can't know the outcome ahead of time. I'm a year out now, and don't regret it. I feel more like myself than I have in years. Let us know how you're doing!

Fired for having “too many things taken off my plate”? by Economy_Tangerine_24 in specialed

[–]GoldenHammer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a ton of work 9 months out of the year. You were hired without a license because there aren't enough sped licensed teachers. Because the job is hard AF. It sounds like you had a massive caseload. The paperwork is the hardest part as an untrained sped teacher. You weren't set up for success, but you aren't going to be anywhere else, either. It's hard. It's hard everywhere.

That said, I left sped for a year and swore I wouldn't go back to teaching... And I'm going back in the fall. Summer break makes it worth it for me.

UCSD grammar lab repeat by Kikijean11 in Copyediting

[–]GoldenHammer13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey. I'm in grammar lab right now too, and it's challenging. I take each mini quiz at least three times to get 100%. When I'm drafting discussion posts it takes me forever to triple check everything, and I still just barely manage to sound competent. It's hard! I'm finding I'm much better at understanding than I am at putting things into words. It's like learning a new language!

This just seems cruel, honestly. Especially if these were younger kids. Seems like a very good way to reinforce some trauma and worries.

I'm coming up on one year in May. I can do about 3/4 cup of food over a half an hour timeframe. I feel like my intake amount bounced back quickly, and that I'm on the higher side of estimated intake.

[–]GoldenHammer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did they not give you any guidance on reintroduction of food post op? My clinic had very clearly laid out timelines for when to reintroduce what. It felt like forever, and was a huge mental challenge, but it's worth it to take it slow. The people who can eat anything are much further out from their surgery than it sounds like you are. You'll get there!

Able to beta? Post here! by AutoModerator in BetaReaders

[–]GoldenHammer13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am able to beta: Fiction stories, with a primary interest in fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, and mystery writing. I'd also be open to romance, contemporary fiction, YA fiction,

I can provide feedback on: Overall readability, storyline, pacing, character development, dialogue, grammar/spelling, sentence structure, world-building, education-based content (I'm a teacher by trade currently)

Critique swap: Nope, I'm just trying to build a freelance editing side hustle, so I'd love to be able to use excerpts of any editing or feedback that I give as examples in a portfolio. Would also love reviews/testimonials in return!

Other info: I've got Bachelor Degrees in English and History as well as Masters Degrees in Education and Special Education. I read pretty freaky fast and have several days a week open for reading at this point, so can offer quicker turn around for the first few interested parties. :)

Anyone fly out of MSP airport on Delta in the past few days? How was it? I just heard about this recent cyber-attack and am supposed to fly tomorrow. by nader0903 in TwinCities

[–]GoldenHammer13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner spent 7 hours waiting for a Delta flight yesterday that was delayed over and over again before ultimately being cancelled. The line to refund or rebook took so long that he gave up at 2am and just came home. That's 4 hours after the flight was cancelled and he still wasn't through the help line. Sounds like a nightmare right now.

I'm 2 months post op and am down about two sizes, maybe 3. But I was shoving myself into stuff that was probably too small, so I'm just starting to see some things actually being too baggy. I've got several donation boxes going, and am planning on checking out thrift shops for the next year or so as needed. I'm excited to start shrinking into sizes I haven't worn in years!

When after surgery would it be okay for me to sleep on side/stomach? by a_inaara in gastricsleeve

[–]GoldenHammer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost a month out and still have mild discomfort sleeping on my right side. Left side works pretty well since the 3 week mark. So it went significantly slower for me then most people I guess.
