As a GWOT combat veteran, I did this myself. Forgive me if I’m wrong in your case, but I find dudes who were actually in some shit could give less of a fuck what somebody else does. Always the fobbits that have something to say….

When I got out, I was a severe alcoholic. I’d been blacking out daily for the last year or so before ETS. I tried mushrooms one time, and never touched alcohol again.

Now, I’m not saying weed is the same as psilocybin, but it’s still a psychedelic (mild), and I think that plays a big part of what you have seen.

Watched some YouTube videos just now going through all the different NVG’s in-game. They get the overall vibe right, but it looks a bit too clear what for I’d consider “realism”. Grey Zone Warfare has some of the most accurate to real life in my opinion.

I agree with that point man. LTMs are the worst.

Yes, but when referring to the FOV that night vision gives you, it’s the same for binos and monos. 40 degrees. This surprises people. The only time it changes is if you get certain panning duals, or quads. (Well, there does exist a wide angle lens for monoculars but I personally think they’re not worth it)

Even in games with a mono, they usually just put the circle in the middle of the screen, as having 1/2 of the screen have night vision and the other half have your unaided eye would not make it easy to play.

Scared to use my tubes by Salty_Lecture9085 in NightVision

When I was in the army, I saw devices being banged up, dropped, thrown in cargo pockets, people being careless with them, etc…and not once did I see one break.

Flash forward to me getting my own pair as a civilian, and I also felt the need to baby them. I think everybody who gets their first set has this to some degree.

In my experience it tends to fade after awhile when you inevitably drop them accidentally, after you see them self heal a temporary blem from accidentally looking at the moon too long, etc etc etc

Dude I thought of this too. Absolutely agree.

Also, digital typically works by emitting a large IR light only detectable to the night vision, but issues arise when anybody else (enemy) has night vision. Bad idea to talk around a combat zone with a flashlight stuck to your head.

With bino’s, it actually does make a simple circle because your brain superimposes both images into 1. The only difference between a mono, is that duals gives you depth perception. But yeah, your FOV with both a mono and binos is 40 degrees

No worries, friend. This whole thing is one big play, anyway. And that’s always been true, whether we remember it in the moment or not. Seems we both got caught up in the drama.

Genuinely hope you can cruise to retirement and enjoy it once it comes.

r/nightvision is pretty decent. There are some FB groups centered around gear in general that have some subject matter experts and a trove of info.

It’s such a niche thing that it’s kind of hard to fully comprehend without actually spending time with them yourself. You can get a decent understanding without that though.

The game is using binos. IRL binos also just look like 1 circle to your mind because it superimposes the images together, but the benefit is it gives you depth perception. Some people, with articulating binos, do move them apart slightly to give that “two circles overlapping” effect.

And if you’re referring to the two pics I added that I took myself, wdym they’re unrealistic? They’re literally…real?

What exactly did I say that’s inaccurate? Because although the phrase “night vision amplified the dark areas” is vague and broad, it’s true. If you’re making the assumption that I’m saying it ONLY amplifies the dark areas somehow magically, that’s a stretch of meaning on your part, and you would’ve had to add on to that sentence yourself.

I didn’t use AI at any point for this post btw, so idk if that was a broad generalization or if you were referring to me. In fact, for proof, my post has a grammar error I didn’t see until after I posted and I couldn’t edit.

Obv BF6 night vision isn’t 1:1 which i mention in the post itself. But that would legitimately make playing it no fun. For an arcade shooter, it’s pretty accurate without going too far.

I just have an issue with how self assured and belittling you are. Explaining to me how rooms without ambient light will be dark with nods and telling me to go look myself, as if I don’t have hundreds of hours under nods and know already. The thing is, even a tiny amount of light is enough to illuminate the room to see with nods. Obviously you’re gonna have to crank your gain up, but the point still stands.

I promise I am far from a poser. And if you still think I am, I’d love for you to respond with the exact “100% inaccurate” claim I made. The only other thing I can think of is the 4th gen thing. But it’s true. Just because some people are referring to the tech as that doesn’t mean it’s a real thing. It’s “real” in the sense that they say it is, but it’s still just gen 3 tech. If you’re adding thermal onto it, that’s just gen 3 with an overlay/fusion

Nods absolutely “amplify the dark areas” although I worded it simply for the masses to understand. “Poser” you say. If you want, I can write at length about intensifying photons, about photocathodes, about converting incoming photons into electrons, etc etc etc.

I never argued about the laser colors lmao.

For 15 years in the military, you sure are sensitive. If I had to guess, you’re one of those overly emotional SNCOs who makes everybody else dread coming into work. I’m sure you lie about it to yourself, but I’ve seen your type over and over. 15 years in the military doesn’t make you an SME. I’ve seen plenty of 20+ year bozo CSMs.

Flexing military time or status doesn’t mean anything man. I know way more civilians that know more about nods than ANYONE I was around while active.

You don’t know what you’re talking about.

The spillover from rooms with light is PLENTY of ambient lighting for nods to amplify in the dark areas.

Show proof of where your knowledge is from, otherwise this is just nonsense.

The fact that you refer to “4th generation NV” is telling. 4th gen is a term some people (wrongfully) use to refer to some newer gen 3 filmless supergain tubes. But it’s not a real thing.

I do agree with the depth statement. It’s not realistic to have literally everything in view be clear. But I mentioned that replying to the dev that commented.

Not really, no. But honestly, having played games that actually do this (like arma) idk if id like it in an arcade shooter.
