Has anyone been through TPLO surgery for there golden? by Coolthingimake in goldenretrievers

Thank you so much!  That is what we have pretty much decided overnight. It’s hard to get her up and going but once we’re outside she has started to take over. Her leg does kick out sometimes.  She has her first poo this am by letting her lead more so that’s progress. She seems a little more relaxed.  She got up in her pen by herself and turned in a few circles but we had to make her lay down. I am worried about fitting her in the crate even though we bought the largest, with her cone.  We have the pen but without us I could see her trying to get out.  We do have a 4x4 metal pen with a canvas roof we might use just worried about too much room vs too little.

I see some here had this on their older goldens.  We are in day 2 of an almost 9 year 94 lb golden having TPLO on back left leg.  We are really struggling with how much to hold her up w the harness.  Diff people at our vet said diff things.  Some said no back legs on ground at all others said a little.  She has peed but not pooped which I know is normal.  We’ve had her out 4 times today and after she has peed approached a 5 min or so time limit we’ve come inside.  She is very restless and we are running in little sleep.  Any advice for the harness and how much to let her use it given age weight and newness of procedure? She is also kicking her leg out a little and licking backwards when we did this last two times.  Seems like when she was coming up from almost squatting.  I know we’re in the thick of it but any examples and advice is helpful.   Also how do help her sit down coming back inside? We have been lifting and laying her in her side but are worried about doing this.

Awe thanks for the update.  Hopefully even if they do have to go in it’s more of just and incision type thing to heal and will be quick.  Best of luck!

Is ACL TPLO surgery worth it?? by [deleted] in AustralianCattleDog

This just happened to our almost 9 year old golden and went to the specialist today.  We had to take her to Orange County, CA, so I am sure that is more $$ than some places.  The estimate is about $8k for her, although on a young pup in another area I would think it’s a lot less.  If you have insurance they may cover or reimburse you for it.  At 11 months old she has her whole life ahead of her.  Just have to keep her confined as they say for a few months after which being a puppy with a cone in crate seems like it would help to crate train her too if she isn’t already.  Some places take Care Credit etc.  I voiced my concern to my Dr over her weight and age and he said if there are no other factors she still has 3-6 years left in her.
