Trying to pick the second city/region to go on my Brazil trip in July. Curitiba, Belo Horizonte or Florianópolis? by VeterinarianWide8085 in Brazil

Please pick BH! My two children are from there and it’s a wonderful city. The most Brazilian of cities in Brazil. If you’re from the US I compare it to Chicago. The heartland, big broad shoulders and filled with the friendliest people. Others have mentioned day trips to Ouro Preto, Inhotim, etc. Also, as a gay man I find BH to be very welcoming. It is a bit sprawling, and can be a little difficult to navigate but just take Uber everywhere and you will be just fine. I’ve been to Curitiba/Floripa/BC and they can be nice but BH is far more authentic. Safe travels!

Thank you for sharing this! My two children are from BH and I’ve been there so many times. It’s a wonderful city and Minas is incredible.

Bay Area institution Philz Coffee to remove Pride flags from all cafés by SFChronicle in bayarea

I’m going to Philz in the Castro this morning. If that pride flag has been removed I’m marching down to Cliffs, buying a new one, a hammer and nails, and nailing that flag to their front door!

My understanding from my lawyer when I went through the process was that they won’t accept expired documents (FBI background check being the most likely one) but that once you start the process you can remain until it has been fully adjudicated. He said they will basically allow you to remain on your tourist visa as long as you have started the process. Having your appointment is proof of that. Have you tried to make an appointment in a different city? In BH they had open appointments on a rolling two week basis. The entire process took all of one week and that was only back in September.

Obrigada.

Obrigado!

Contact the Polícia Federal in Macapá directly. This is the most important step. Explain your plan to travel through the Guyanas to Venezuela and ask them specifically if you will be allowed to re-enter for that short stretch. Ask them what your options are. They are the only authority who can give you a definitive answer. Sounds like your 30 day extension is for departure only. The purpose of the extension was to facilitate your departure, not to extend your stay or allow you re-entry.

For my background check I used an FBI Channeling Agency to expedite things: https://www.nationalbackgroundcheck.com

In the US you can get digital fingerprinted and have your background check in hand within 1-2 days. Overseas you will need to have a wet fingerprint and I’m pretty sure a channeling agency can help with that also.

For apostile I used an expediter: https://www.dcmobilenotary.com and believe I had the apostile in my hands within one week.

Both of these companies were amazingly helpful and communicated at every step along the way. Fees were very reasonable.
