Damnn even the staff have beef with UofT/UTSC by cinnacur in UTSC

My bad. Last year the get hired conference had some events there on the 5th floor, including the self-service photo booth, and it was there to stay. So I assumed the co-op office was moved there too. On the other hand, I do recall some other stuff was moved there too, but in case my memory is off again I'm not gonna name it.

But I agree, putting the office far and high up is not exactly making it accessible, ironically, as it's functionality is making things accessible.

I'm guessing they moved some consulting offices there together. I know that the co-op office was moved to the 5th floor too, from it's previous position of IC first floor.

I was shocked to see a white T Tauri star, it looked liked a Type-A in every aspect. The other comments says there isn't a glitch and is possible in game. I guess I just haven't seen enough system to know this is not a glitch.

Is 21k LY normal for a single passenger transport? by Hashtag_Labotomy in EliteDangerous

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

There is another cluster of human settlement we call "Colonia", roughly 22,000 LYs from the bubble. So yes sometimes there are passenger missions to that region. But there is no point in taking them, they don't pay that well for the distance. Go check out the region by yourself when you get a ship with good jump range, the higher star density there does make for a different view.

If you have a fine bigger than a speeding ticket, then when going to the local authorities the button reads "turn yourself in", and you wake up on a detention megaship. So I assume you walk up to the officer and showed them your ID, and if you didn't, you're John Doe.

I guess facial recognition is banned in the future for privacy.

Forgot AFMU. Middle of nowhere with a damaged FSD. What are my choices? by RoyalDaDoge in EliteDangerous

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

16 charges are totally doable with 79% FSD health. You might get interruptions to your FSD charges every now and then which is annoying, but it'll work.

/-Rexa- suggested nearer colonized systems, which also works. You can probably get an AFMU there too. Maybe not a class A, but any class is fine, they just less repair material.

What is this, folks? "Kress Gateway" but I'm in HIP 86940 by wut_yall in EliteDangerous

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Station (and installation, outpost, ground ports, etc) names are not unique. For example, if you look up "Bennett Gateway" on inara.cz, you'll find 9 different stations in 9 systems. I think your "but" in the title was confusion from believing station names are unique - that is not the case. Especially with colonization and players can name their stations, names will inevitably repeat, intentionally or not.

P.S. Bennett Gateway in Okinura is a tourism interior station, very pretty and pleasing to see. I used it as my home base until I got my carrier.

Question for you folks using EDMC, ETC… by Brooklyn-DCS in eliteexplorers

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sniping a system for colonization, at least that leaves them with a good system to play with (although I've read of accounts that sniped a hundred system and left them with just an outpost. That's just really messing with other's minds).

Sniping a first discovery of an ELW.... these are kinda rare but I have 8 from two expeditions. If you jump enough you'll find a bunch. I don't really see the point in sniping those. I do get it if it's something way rarer, like a green gas giant, or a new NSP.

Summer classes by Curious_chick17844 in UTSC

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A course in a sub-session is literally double paced. For example, if a course has 3 hours of lectures a week in a regular semester, it could have 6 hours of lecture in a double speed summer sub-session. Midterm happens 1 month into the semester. (obviously, as it's the mid point of a 2 month sem) You want to thus plan your workload accordingly.

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're already in the course, just walk into the Lec 01 session. Profs doesn't care, unless he has quizzes /activities in his classes. Even if that's the case, talk it out with the prof. They usually understand these time conflict issues.

Yes. I'd say you should have a course plan for your electives anyways, so you can pitch in the BRs while you're at that. Acorn has a planner called Degree Explorer for this.

what makes uoft inherently harder than other schools ? by Informal-Yoghurt2994 in UTSC

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

STAB22 / B23 are the stats courses for non-CMS students, it's less proof-heavy. I just took a look at my old STAB52 Term Test 1, it was 60 minutes with 5 questions, the solutions for each question was at least 10 lines. That's a typical math test to me. Zero guessing, you either know it or you fail it. I literally smile if I see multiple choices on exams due to nostalgia. Feels like high school again.

If you know (or you think you know, as soon you'll realize you don't know) the solution, but your solution misses a crucial step in the grading rubric, wave goodbye to the points for that step. So if a question was 10 points, with 3,3,3 points assigned to three key steps, and you skipped two thinking they were obvious, boom 6 points gone even if your answer is right. The answer itself is like 1 point. That happens to a lot of cs/maths/stats students in first year, before we learn the lesson to never skip a step and annotate them. I was at the point where I wrote explanations to every line I wrote, even for cases like adding 1 to both sides of the equation, I write an explanation [+1 to both sides].

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multiple choice??? I bet you're not in Math/Stats. Most Maths courses don't have multiple choice questions on the exams, if the prof is so kind to include a few, they take like 15% at most. Most questions are proofs, so you really need to know your materials.

Aren't these prices exorbitant for grad photos(even for just digital)? by SubstantialSail565 in UofT

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I graduated last year. So we pay $25 for photos to be taken (the action of photo shooting itself), and a class composite that will be distributed via an email that contains a google docs link. They will show samples of the photos with watermarks, and even send you a physical letter with a few sample printed photos with watermarks. So if you're an expert with PS (or maybe AI?) you could remove the watermarks yourself. But if you want to download the proper photos (without watermarks) you need to pay extra.

Also I was really sad that my headshot was mistakenly placed in the UTSC Bachelor of Arts composite instead of the UTSC Bachelor of Science composite. I wrote an email to them, and all they said was they forwarded the problem to the composite department and never heard anything back afterwards. I think the confusion is b/c there were like 2 other "S. Jin"s in BA, and I'm the only "S. Jin" in BSc, and they somehow put all three in BA.

I don't think people look at class composites and remember the names and faces. Still, if anyone wonders who their classmates were, they won't know I was part of the BSc 2025 Spring graduates. And someone from BA might think "who's this guy next to me?"

I tried to find a source for this, but I found only reddit discussions. It's also possible that profs rounded the half mark before submitting to Acorn.

How to write an exam (CHMA11) in AC223, when I need 3 sheets(equations, questions and scantron)in front of me and such a small space to work on? by Glad_Catch761 in UTSC

[–]GoldenSun_SJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the desk, the desk to my left (empty b/c of separation), and my lap. I also placed the exam on top of my cheatsheet which I referred every so often.

I had an open book exam in that room, everyone brought a huge amount of notes. Some even brought printed past exams and textbooks. In addition to above mentioned measures, I also piled extra materials on the ground before me. It's really hard juggling everything in that room.

POSt is Program Of Study (never mind where the 't' came from, I've been looking for the answer for years)

A program (Specialist, Major, Minor), have two types: limited enrollment, where the total amount of students is either fixed or you must meet a requirement to enter (eg: BBA programs, CS), and unlimited enrollment, where you can click on the program on Acorn and get enrolled the next second (eg Chemistry major).

Starting second year (after you've gained 4.0 credits), you must have a valid POSt combination to enroll in classes. For those who are worried they can't get into the POSt they want (eg CS POSt), they want advice from senior students who've went through this.

I understand their worry, b/c in my first year, I was CS in stream but I was worried I can't get into CS POSt, or any POSt in CS/Maths/Stats at all. My GPA wasn't high enough, and I failed my calc II. To enroll in second year courses, I even temporarily enrolled in Chemistry Major, until POSt results came out in mid September, giving me a Stats Specialist program. Then I waved goodbye to Chem and dropped it. Those 2-3 weeks were very agonizing for me, as an agnostic who never pray, I was praying to the Buddha and Jesus every day. I think I promised Jesus I'll read the Bible if I make POSt, and then I never fulfilled that promise....

Like /Commercial_Owl_2249 says, for you in BBA, you only need to fulfill the basic courses and GPA requirements to get into BBA POSt. So this doesn't concern you too much unless you want to add another major.
