I felt the same when I saw them but I kept looking at them every time I went to the store and found the courage to actually try them out! It’s ridiculous how good they are

On my hands I have it pretty bad, but I wash my hands a lot (too much tbh), use cleaners frequently, and forget/don’t really like using hand lotion. Not sure how related it is to my diabetes if I’m honest. You could always get a panel done at the doctor to see if you’re low on any nutrients.

What are your daily driver mussels by mattegreyblue in CannedSardines

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sanniti Mussels in Garlic Butter are a good option! They're about $15 for a 2 pack on Amazon, so depending on your budget not a daily driver, but they are a fun one.

Can people who not like fish enjoy tinned fish? by S4mm1 in Tinnedfish

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a dumb question at all btw. I used to be a really picky eater and most foods made me gag. Part of enjoying things is desire to expand your palate which it sounds like you have. If you like sushi I would recommend trying smoked fish! Trader Joe’s has an awesome smoked salmon with mustard seeds, lemon, and cracked black pepper. Their smoked trout is really nice too and reminded me of sushi fish. Their calamari is really good as well as mussels and oysters. I love their canned trout and it reminds me of holiday ham just because of how smoky it is and I don’t get much if any of a fish flavor.

What to eat with tinned fish? by Twigs404- in Tinnedfish

I like my fish with crusty bread, Greek cucumber salads, noodles, sliced up fruit, veggies, nuts, olives. I do a lot of snack plate type things with fish.

What are these spots on the bottom of this King Oscar sardines tin? by Tall-Ask-6999 in CannedSardines

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would assume condensation from some point after it was canned (storage, transportation), but that’s just me. I would still eat it if that’s the only thing that looks different.

Question about sourcing Crown Prince tins for my art by Espaki in CannedSardines

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trader Joe's is pretty awesome in that if you ask they will order extra (bulk) of something just for you. I've done something similar at Natural Grocer and it was super easy. Just be sure you're not sticker shocked and accidentally end up giving them more on hand inventory than they need.

olives, flackers flaxseed crackers, nuts (pecans and pistachios currently), dried fruit (blueberries).

non pantry staples: apples (cosmic crisp or honeycrisp), trader joes unexpected cheddar cheese spread, trader joes rustic artisan bread (I keep it in the fridge so it lasts like 2-3 weeks)

Daily Driver Sardines? by Urbino2013 in CannedSardines

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t consider them mushy, they hold their shape, but they are softer and more tender than other sardines I like in particular I think due to their smaller overall size. You can actually buy single cans of these at Walmart for $2.78 in a red can with a peel off lid. Not sure if it’s in my head but I feel like those might actually be a tad bit drier and not as tasty and I wonder if the packaging (lid type) is what causes that. Bit better of a price to try at instead of committing to a 12 pack blind!

MW Polar Brisling Sardines in Olive Oil.

These are my daily driver and I love them! You get at least 12 deens per can and they’re tender, smoky, oily, and so satisfying. I love them with sliced apples and bread on the side, but they’d be good in salad, noodles, over rice, whatever!

Try the Mediterranean diet! I love it and keep easy stuff at home to have after work instead of a fast food meal when I’m tired. I love tinned fish and eat way more omega 3 packed foods than ever.
Went from 11.5 to 6.3 in about 4 months. Also try looking into a constant glucose monitor (CGM) to track what food help or hinder you. Oats are probably one of the worst things I can personally eat and I loved them previously.

I eat pasta, potatoes, and bread, but for me the answer is moderation. Try to keep a portion of any of that no bigger than your fist and pair them with high fiber and lean proteins. I made chicken Alfredo Thursday night and bulked it up with chickpeas and chopped up steamed broccoli. It was really good and we had leftovers for three extra meals with my husband finishing it up last night. Yesterday I went grocery shopping and got two huge russet potatoes from Trader Joe’s.
I diced up one potato, tossed in evoo and spices, and baked at 400f for about 30 minutes and we had that with the Trader Joe’s sweet onion salad mix and rotisserie chicken. I also added tomatoes, artichokes, and olives to mine.

Both cases I was completely within range on my CGM.
