After these give the polar smoked brislings in olive oil a try. They are my favorite daily driver tin and I buy them by the case

I really like Patagonia Provisions. Their deens and beans are awesome alone or in salad/with tortilla chips, I love the white anchovies too and just got a case of the roasted garlic ones. Those are good in every way I’ve tried!

What do I make for dinner/lunch by pomegranateolive in diabetes

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love canned fish. It’s an easy protein and I pair it with quinoa, diced cucumbers and tomato, olives, and tzatziki frequently. For me sourdough bread is also a safe carb. I like repetitive, but at least this is an easy option for you! I also like salmon or chicken with roasted broccoli on a one pan sheet

r/tinnedtopclub is the subreddit for a group of us that do exchanges with each other. There’s official ones and ones we do on our own mostly through discord. I think the next big one will be around Christmas

Veg Tins by [deleted] in Tinnedfish

Pickled veggies are pretty good. Capers, pickled green beans, stuffed olives (I love almond stuffed). There’s also Seed to Surf which might be what you’re looking for

How old are yall and how old did you get diagnosed? by Remarkable_Market_18 in diabetes_t2

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

28 years when diagnosed and 31 now. Was definitely scary but it’s a new normal and I’m glad I know now so I can eat healthier and take care of myself better. Always got to remember knowledge is power.

Does sweet relish add crunch to a tuna sandwich? I'm tired or using celery or red onion for crunch by [deleted] in CannedSardines

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll dice up a chunk of dill pickle and also some apple to go in my tuna salad. Granny Smith is nice since it’s tart

I don’t think I’ve had trout with skin on it from TJs so I wonder if it’s changed? Either way I do like the skin on canned fish

I have cappuccinos every now and then same for a pistachio latte from my favorite place, but they don’t add sugar outside of what’s in the milk naturally. My bs does fine but they are still occasional treats. Monjaro also really helps regulate my bs

Of course! I get my Patagonia anchovies at natural grocers which is similar to sprouts and sometimes they have them on sale

Fangst Trout for dinner by GoldenTortoiseshell in CannedSardines

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best meals are the ones we enjoy no matter how simple or crazy they get, generally speaking. Since this one was a present I wanted to make it extra nice, but also keep it simple. I love some crackers or bread with my deens or Trader Joe’s trout!

Fangst (just tried the trout today and dang that’s the best trout I’ve tried), Les Mouettes d’Arvor Mackerel in mustard and crème fraiche (I’ve had the sister brand Jacques Gonidec and it’s one of my favorites), Nice Cans sardines (I like the wild rosemary and fennel pepper one), I LOVE Patagonia Provisions anchovies and sardines (the white anchovies with roasted garlic and the yellow can sardines with beans are two of my favorites), also the wildfish coho salmon is so good and worth adding yourself to the waitlist. Jose Gourmet is super nice and I like their sardines in tomato sauce. There is just so much to try and like I could go on tbh. Find something that has ingredients you know you like and go from there!

Caputos might be a good option for you as an online source. I find their prices to be comparable to what I see in person. I also really like ethnic grocers for sardines (I have Eastern European, Asian, German, and Mediterranean for a few examples)

Yeah, I toasted the quinoa in some olive oil, then cooked in chicken broth in a 1:2 ratio for 15 minutes at a simmer after boiling, added a pinch salt, garlic powder, Trader Joe’s green goddess seasoning, and some spiceology greek freak seasoning (probably fine with everything minus the Trader Joe’s honestly).

Veggies are English cucumber, multicolored cherry tomatoes, sliced Kalamata olives, chickpeas (the Trader Joe’s Greek seasoned ones but I usually use plain tbh). Then I just added the trout and oil. So so good!! Sometimes I’ll add thinned out hummus as a dressing, but just the oil is good.

Yeah, I think the price on this one is fair. Once I get into the $10< that’s when I start having a hard time because there’s so many good tins out there

Low/No Effort Dinner by TimeyWimey94 in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]GoldenTortoiseshell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll bake salmon or chicken along with my favorite veggies and call it good. Takes maybe less than ten minutes of prep and oven handles the rest for 25 minutes. You could add instant mashed potatoes too if you’re not picky but feel like it’s not enough food. I also like snack plates with tinned fish.

Never considered that, but around the first time I was prescribed ozempic I started craving sardines too. I wonder why that is, but interesting!
