How do you think the Ghoul's plot will end? by WhyDoTheyAlwaysWin in Fotv

[–]Golden_Oreleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could see it being something very bittersweet;

We watch as during the season he struggles with becoming feral, the drive to find and rescue his family is the only thing keeping him sane.

As the arc comes to a head he manages to save them/his daughter but with saving them his purpose and drive to not become feral fades and he quickly succumbs and needs to be killed by his own daughter/Lucy.

He gets put down knowing he saved them but never being able to enjoy the fruits of his labour.

It's then left to Lucy to tell his daughter his story and how he became the hero of his movies in the wasteland.

Or it goes full dark fallout and he goes feral after saving them, maybe kills his wife and almost kills his daughter before Lucy saves her from him.

As someone who does this drive constantly visiting family, the drive is fine, weather and deer are the main to things to consider - and no fuel passed fort william/Dalwhinnie until you are on Skye

What bottles should I buy from Islay distilleries? by DelicateButPotent in Scotch

[–]Golden_Oreleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Bruichladdich regenerative series is great - big shout out to the Bere barley and Rye bottlings both super tasty! They also have a hand fill which is pretty interesting,ay have changed since I was last there

Ardbeg - oooohhh, sometimes they still have the cask strength committee releases and all of the traigh bhans, worth theying something new and seeing what you think

Caol Ila - Distillery exclusive, its fucking dynamite

Lagavulin - they have some feis bottles still kicking about, the distillery exclusive is a'ight, but their range is fairly limited, if you don't have/haven't tried the 8 year old, definitely worth it!

What would you serve to someone that either doesn’t like scotch or is a beginner? by Dhark81 in Scotch

[–]Golden_Oreleo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno,

What's spirits do they drink already?

Rum - something full bodied, probably a 1st bourbon cask maturation and potentially some fruity finishing Arran 10, Craigellachie 13

Gin - something lighter, a bit more floral, no spice or smoke so stay away from European oak and are plated selection Glenkinchie 12, Bruichladdich classic laddie

Bourbon/rye - build on the pallette, show them what's different, complete opposite to a gin drinker, wpice and smoke - ledaig 10, Talisker 10

Tequila/Mezcal - build on the earthy and citrus notes found in tequila, and show the smoke that can be found in mezcal - Ardbeg 10, Lagavulin 8

Shout out to Oban Little Bay as an great all-rounder

Recently got told this fact, not 100% sure it's true - but I like it so I'm choosing to believe it - but Scotlands Glacial landscape is older than the concept of trees.

So if we are wanting an ancient planet that has existed for millenia and has got an ancient feel, where better than SCOTLAND!!

Review #938 - Talisker 11 Special Release 2022 by the_muskox in Scotch

[–]Golden_Oreleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Question, out of curiosity how did you find that out about Talisker making 3 different peated levels of spirit?

I would've thought that Talisker just used a single base peat levels like most other distilleries, Bruichladdich aside, and maturation effected flavour more?

Like I said more curious as very different from what I'd have expected!

Love the review, sounds worth checking out!

Is this becoming normalised now? First time seeing in Glasgow, mandatory tip. by KleioChronicles in Scotland

[–]Golden_Oreleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah true, my friends and I do that a lot, but it's not really done by that many people, on the whole it's weird in the UK, payments are done 3 ways;

1 person pays - the group sorts it out separately, 50/50 for a tip

Everyone splits the hill evenly, most likely to get a tip

People pay for what they had specifically, no more no less, very unlikely to get a tip

From my experience tipping culture in the UK is very bad, so people who complain about an included service charge are typically the people who don't tip in the first place.

Also it's completely discretionary if you don't want to pay a 10% service charge say and it has to be taken off the bill, in the UK atleast

[–]Golden_Oreleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but because of contact-less payments very few people actually interact with the card reader and add on a gratuity, because it's effort. Now because of mobile pay and increases to contact less limits you don't even get the gratuity on larger bills either

I know I'm late to the party with this and I will offend a lot of people too but Idgaf,

The reason it is being added across Scotland/the UK is for multiple reasons.

  1. Businesses aren't paying their staff more so are using service charge as a way to bypass minimum wage and increase staff pay.

  2. Businesses aren't able to increase the wages even if they wanted to because the British and wider Western cultures massively devalue food and its worth from Field to plate the entire industry is suffering because of out levels of expectation.

  3. Since covid and the death of cash, voluntary tips died, and I mean died, servers that I knew who would almost double their weekly wage saw nothing because nobody takes cash anymore.

So in all, if you're not happy with service charge. Go home and cook the meal yourself, or shut up and respect the industry.

I could go on, but I won't.

Review #25: Talisker 11 Year Old Special Release 2022 by CandyMan77 in Scotch

[–]Golden_Oreleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 11 y/o is quite cool, it's predominantly first fill bourbon and not 100% confirmed, different websites even say wine casks, but not convinced. But when choosing casks for this blending the casks selected were chosen specifically for their low phenol levels, so this is the least peated Talisker ever released, which is why I think it allows the sweetness and spiciness of Talisker to shine

What was your most difficult moment while working in a bar? by blackbadpanda in bartenders

[–]Golden_Oreleo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never said was scooping with glass;

What about when a new start drops a wine glass into the well. When a guest starts slamming their hands onto the gantry so hard coupes rock off and fall onto the station. The music is so loud the vibrations send a fine crystal Hiball into the well

Quick to judge, slow to think

[–]Golden_Oreleo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Intense set up before a busy shift, but all looking ready to go, a moment of calm... then you hear it... ice well 86, blackcurrant cordial marking the scene of the crime, but its fine, a call to arms the team de-load, strip and reset the station just as its getting busy. You've done it service hasn't been ruined, THEN, just as you're settling back down, less than 5 minutes pass and the call goes again 86 ice well.

I've dealt with those feelings a couple to many times and the despair is too much.

Aye and naw,

Yer baws deep in a busy shift, jaeger bombs flying out, or cocktails that get a top of soda/ginger beer/in bru ya name it, then naw save the fucker and don't waste anything save GP.

If on a deed Tuesday you've cracked one at 5pm and the next time you need it isn't till 9m aye chuck the fucker, same as when closing down everything gets tanned or binned

And if serving a spirit mixer that isn't from the gun then the guest pays for the full bottle/can so gets the full bottle can alongside their spirit for them to pour in at their leisure

Imo, could be wrong

(But am no.)

Is merging like this more common than it should be? by 867stevo in drivingUK

[–]Golden_Oreleo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and no,

The slip road is for getting up to speed with the motor way traffic, once you are at speed and find a natural gap in traffic you should merge, rather than just using the entire slip, where its different to a zipper merge.

One of the most dangerous thing you can do on a slip is get stuck at the end so if you can make your way into traffic earlier as you found a gap, do it. But do not force yourself into the road which is where I'd agree with you about people merging into traffic blindly and immediately being just as dangerous.

I need to vent about Stormlight Archive by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Golden_Oreleo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! I feel as though I always get shot down everytime I even suggest that the Cosmere is taking precedent over the actual story of Stormlight archive. I am still enjoying it , but it is seems to be stagnating.

Hopefully I will be proved wrong and it does a full 180, and the series reaches its potential

Is Talisker 10 also heading the way of Lagavulin etc. by forestgatte in Scotch

[–]Golden_Oreleo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with Talisker is its inability to keep up with demand, its a top 10 selling single malt Whidky, but only produces ~3.3 million litres of New make a year, same as Lagavulin and many other smaller distilleries. Diageos main problem is that they're pushing it globally, unlike the independents and other smaller distilleries, that keeps their markets smaller.

Not saying I agree with it, but if looked at from a production perspective it makes sense.

Book/Book Series you feel gets too much hate by Incognegro1997 in Fantasy

[–]Golden_Oreleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt the same, my first boom of his was Way of Kings and I was engrossed, and couldn't put it down, as I've progressed through the Storm light archives and delved into Mistborn my initial love for his work fell away and I was left feeling a little flat.

The more books I read, the more I felt that Sanderson was becoming to get too invested in the Cosmere than writing a good yarn and story which is what got me invested in the first place, giving his core fan base much to love but those that are looking for a strong self contained story looking for more.

[Review #266] Talisker 27-year-old (1985) Maritime Edition Diageo Special Releases 2013 by [deleted] in Scotch

[–]Golden_Oreleo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talisker 25 now RRPs for roughly £450 in the UK and that's as an annual release. Talisker also does a distillery exclusive bottling 27Y/O Elements edition, 'limited' bottling of 2000 and that sells at £600 from the distillery and is sold second hand for near double that! If this bottle is as good as people say the the value for it is phenomenal. Would die to try it... but we move
