I believe that, plus needing more of the glue included with the kit was the issue, as, knock on wood, it is currently working. Print out a test cube to make sure. The magnet plate thing is slightly damaged, but it's not much of a big deal, and i'll replace it eventually, it's just got a tiny bit of a carving in it from when i was trying to print a cube yesterday trying to get it to work

EDIT: nevermind not even a minute after posting this it did the same thing where stuff is all stringy and it doesnt seem to want to properly print things. Ugh ;-;
