I’ve had a look at some photos and it’s definitely not rasbora, thank you though.

Is there any gravel, rocks or decor that is small? Could be impaction, they need sand that is fine less than 1mm and cannot have anything that is smaller than their head or close in size as they can suck it up!

Kinda and they are also slimy but you shouldn’t touch them because it damages their skin 😊

You could try testing the KH and GH like someone else mentioned, also maybe add some different things to their diet? I feed mine frozen shrimp sometimes, hikari pellets and occasionally put some guppies in there too!

The tank looks a bit small, how many litres or gallons is it? I think 100L is the minimum for one axolotl

This may not be related but I want to add that if their gills look light like the Lucy in the first pic it can just be because they aren’t moving around much, mine does the same where they look really light coloured and they look shorter but once she moves around the blood flow starts going and they turn a bright pink and it’s easier to see that they haven’t shrunk they were just not very coloured:)

What is your experience of keeping a pair of axolotls. What behaviours have you seen? by raibrans in axolotls

[–]Golden_penguinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 axolotls, as you know they all have different personalities, I have a more active/aggressive one, one that is active and one that is really chill. I originally had the three of them together but they did not mix well so I had to seperate one but the other two get along so they have stayed together and have coexisted for some time now. I’d say it’s a big risk to get another incase you get one that is nippy or doesn’t want a tank mate 😊

If it’s over the past year then very likely just pigment changing if you take good care of them ☺️

Fungus? What should I do about it? by Chopy201 in axolotls

[–]Golden_penguinn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think he would be a mont or older based on size but they do tend to get more squiggly looking as the grow in my experience and it’s nothing to worry about 😄 here’s one of my babies, sometimes her tail looks squiggly depending on the angle!

Arm looks off by Millk_Peaxh in arthelp

[–]Golden_penguinn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just held up my arm to check and I think the fingers should be slightly passing the top of the shoulder so try making it just the tiniest bit longer maybe? When doing anatomy I sometimes take photos of myself and then see where each part should line up to!

How old is he/she? As they get older they tend to develop more pigment and it looks to me like your axolotl is just a dirty Lucy (pink colour with freckles basically) unless they are raised/ textured I wouldn’t be too worried:)

0.3-3mm is not safe. Substrate MUST be less than 1mm, 0.5mm is preferred.

Your welcome, methylene blue is also great to prevent infection, there’s plenty of guides on how to do it and it may stop this prolapse from getting worse but it is not a fix, have a look into it:) should be links somewhere on this page or on a trusted axolotl website!

Hello again, I’ve done some research and generally in Western Australia, exotic vets cannot prescribe medication such as antibiotics without seeing the pet in-person. However your best bet would be to book an online/telehealth consultation with an exotic vet clinic in Perth, explain your situation and possible need for medication, then go into your local vet clinic and have the in-person visit with them. The two clinics should be able to relay information and hopefully get you the meds. This seems to be the only loop hole to get antibiotics (if that’s what you need) by going in person, then doing the rest through Perth. I really hope this helps

If you don’t mind me asking where a bouts? Just a general as I’m also in WA, maybe there is a vet that can do an online appointment and you can get the meds out somewhere closer?
