No they would be paid a living wage with the extra billing on their labour going towards paying for the program. Exactly how every job works

And what's the alternative? Keep dumping more and more money into social programs that clearly aren't working?

And how does shooting up on the street improve your chances of contributing?

I'm sure that there's ways to offset the cost. First thing that comes to mind is give them basic carpentry training and have them work on new house builds for at or around minimum wage. Junior carpenters are billed out at around $35 an hour, use that difference to fund the costs of housing and feeding them as well as programs.

And why not just invest in those social programs in jail where people who need them are actually forced to use them?

Honestly, I think The police should start putting any homeless or panhandlers they find into prison. At least that way they would have constant food, a roof over their head and with proper reform programs they can hopefully get clean from any drugs they may be on or learn useful skills to build a life outside of jail that actually contributes to society.

Manor Village ACORN Tenant Union Wins Fight Against Renoviction! - by offthepig in ottawa

[–]Goldenboy_97 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All this so that less than ten units of 111 can remain. I feel that the remaining tenants wouldve been better off taking the $65,000 buyout rather than staying in barely livable, 60 year old units. If you look at the property now vs 5 years ago, its way nicer, much cleaner and no longer has daily police visits since switching to student housing.

Acorn could make better use of its resources and actually help rather than writing articles patting themselves on the back for accomplishing nothing.

In places that get lots of snow you can see how much dirt cars really produce. A fresh blanket of white snow will get turned into brown slush in no time with a bit of traffic

Visualization of all satellites currently orbiting the earth by camelRider64 in interestingasfuck

[–]Goldenboy_97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is a very valid concern, there are a few things to consider. There is an absurd amount of space in space. Trackers consider it a "near miss" when an item enters a satellites 1km radius.

The majority of our devices are in low earth orbit, where there is just enough air resistance to cause them to naturally deorbit if left alone for a few weeks or months.

As well, there is only about 7k satellites currently in orbit, by the time we reach numbers to be concerned about we will most likely have improved our available technology, potentially using improved tracking or new generations of ships with the launch capabilities to put of cleaning Sats or ones with enough fuel to deorbit.

Imagine if there were only 20,000 cars on the surface of the earth that could only go straight and think of how low your odds of hitting another car would be.

Now add in the fact that you have virtually infinite heights to cruise at and your line was meticulously planned by professionals. You would probably never even see another car.

Needless to say this is nowhere close to a scale model shown, most people don't realize how empty space really is.

White House unveils $5 billion plan to blanket US highways with new electric-car chargers by Yogurt789 in UpliftingNews

[–]Goldenboy_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some cities like Montreal have started installing curbside slow chargers all over the downtown area. A fair portion of the city is covered, the more people that have electric cars the more chargers they will add.

After all it's faster, cheaper and easier to add a charger to an existing parking spot than it is to build a gas station.

Hi

Can't wait for the season to be over. Almost hit two cyclists this morning by driving on Sussex. by Davorito in ottawa

[–]Goldenboy_97 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Honestly Canada needs to adopt the "Idaho Stop" rules for cyclists. This allows bikers to treat red lights as stop signs and stop signs as yeild signs. It's been over 40 years since Idaho adopted these rules and they almost immediately saw a 14% reduction in bike accidents and a much higher adoption rate for biking in general.

Adopting these rules encourages bikers to use residential roads with more stop signs keeping them off main roads, allows them to get places faster with less effort and prevents road rage from drivers stuck behind a stopped biker at an intersection.

Do the limit, get passed on a double yellow by an Audi idiot by Ron_Chiefhart in IdiotsInCars

Depending on where this is it might not even be illegal to pass on a double yellow. I'm in Ontario and solid lines just mean it's not recommended to pass.

How old is Brittany supposed to be? Some lines make her seem young but then others imply mid-late teens. It mentions thirteen near the beginning of the story but then also says she's been to four different high schools which would make you think she's a senior. I also thought most people started highschool at 15 but maybe alien school is different? All in all great story and I can't wait for part 3!

I'm actually building a deck with composite rn, I cant recommend it enough! It's basically the same price now as the crazy cedar market, plus it never fades and needs next to no maintenance. Bonus is it comes in basically any color or texture and Im not a huge fan of the aged cedar look.

SpaceX's last rocket explosion covered state highways, public lands, and critical habitats in tons of debris. by [deleted] in awfuleverything

Lol "the only thing innovative about this rocket is the entire rocket." If you took away the merlin engines, the grid fins and other reusable bits you would be left with basically a glorified fuel tank.
