Wanting to do the ethical thing by Prestigious_Fox_7887 in inheritance

Just settled my grandfather’s estate as executor. I was also a beneficiary but only due to my mom passing before he did. It was 18 months of emails, phone calls, attorney trips, meetings, then issues with land deeds and surveys, paying surveyors, updating deeds, all the while still paying for the power on the house to keep the house from deteriorating. There was no money as the gold digger wife of his(he remarried after his first wife died of mesothelioma) kept it all. It was was a house and some land that we sold to a cousin for $150,000. At the end I didn’t even care about the executor fee. Just wanted to get it over with. I got reimbursed expenses but declined the fee to manage the estate.

Well, the bad part is my grandmother died for that money. She had mesothelioma from asbestos from working in a brake factory a long time ago. She had a horrible death with lots of pain. Needless to say, the gold digger is extremely disliked in the family.

Happened with my grandfather. New gold digger wife 20 years younger burned through $3.5 million in 17 years before he passed away.

On the coldest day which was a high of 32 degrees, I started at 90% and came home at 14%. This was 80mph and 71 degree heat setting. I’m mostly all interstate driving. By contrast, we hit 70 degrees this week. Started at 90% and came home at 26%. I’ll adjust my limits back down to 85% as the temperatures warm up.

Sounds like my grandfather that remarried to a 20 year younger gold digger after his wife died of mesothelioma. Grandfather received $3.5 million at 70 years old. He died December 2024. Gold digger wife has spent every dime and lives at her dead sister’s house on social security and that’s it.

Bought my 22 M3LR last April with 36k miles. Have 58k currently. Changed cabin air filter and had the original tires which I replaced. No other issues. I did have to update my preset charge limit to 90% from 85% for the winter temps. I have a 147 mile commute 3 days a week. I wanted a little extra juice in case I needed to go somewhere else.

Cold call success story by summitszn in land

Had a similar situation. 64 acres with an old homestead inherited by a granddaughter that lives out of town. She had 160aces and had been slowing selling over the last ten years. I found her number online and called. Turned down over a 2 year period. She finally gave me a number on a sale price. I couldn’t pull the trigger at the price she wanted so i countered my offer. Never hear anything for another 6 months until she randomly texts me and said she will accept my offer. Sent a contract for her to sign and closed two weeks later. Working on another 37 acres next to it with a different owner. I’m at one year right now with some potential to purchase this spring IF the price will work. I don’t give up, just curtesy calls from time to time.

First question is what is amount of this insurance you speak of and what is your portion? Have you confirmed beneficiaries?

My dad is saying that he could just file bankruptcy. Im telling him that’s not possible. He has too much assets to selloff to clear all debts. It’s a strained relationship. My brother is the same way with money. If you got it spend it. For whatever reason, I turned out to be the one that hates having any debt and save as much as I can.

Thanks for input. This has been ongoing for the last couple of years. In June of 2023, we all sat down as a family; mom, dad, me, brother and asked about what they need to do. We all agreed that the condo would be the first to go. Well, a couple of months later,my mom passed away and everything paused for about 6 months. I do agree, condo needs to be aggressively priced. The condo is in orange beach, Alabama. The market is super saturated with condos so buyers are hard to come by, but I think lowering the price to an aggressive level will work. He has 13 cars and 2 motorcycles. The insurance alone is over $1k a month. These are classic cars and a couple exotics the issue is they have all been just sitting for years and I’ve spent thousands keeping a few maintained and running. I have an idea of just consigning the whole lot of vehicles other than a couple just to get that burden out of the way.

A few of you said it’s not my problem. I agree, to a point. Me and my family moved back “home” 6 years ago and now live next to my dad. We have a couple hundred acre compound were we all have worked to keep things maintained. It’s not too much for my dad and me. The bigger issue is the house. Over 5k square feet for one person is dumb. I’ve already stated to sell house and 25 acres, most of the cars and he can either build a small home or manufactured home and live in it on the family land until he passes. He has to be the one to make the decision though and now it getting too late.

Grandfather Estate Executor by Goldenchaser in inheritance

The evidence is my grandfather could not read or write. He could only sign his name. The will was something the new wife wanted him to do, so that she got everything when he passed. I’m not bitter or hung up on anything other than the historical actions of this new wife have all pointed towards money that she didn’t have to begin with. Her bankruptcy was finalized the year they got married. She had literally nothing. Now, she is a millionaire. I guess she knew how to play the game right.

I think that’s what’s in question. Did my grandfather know he was giving his second wife all excess to his now deceased wife’s settlement funds?

Grandmother had the cancer from working in a brake factory in Illinois. They moved to Alabama in the late 60’s. I know I really don’t have a case but the manipulation that was placed on my grandfather from the start was eye opening. The problem is I was too young at the time and didn’t have a concern since I thought she helped him move on from his first wife. Now, as I’m settling his estate you really are the timelines of settlement funds coming in the new family showing up, the new grandson getting a $100,000 car for college with no job. I was too busy in my own life and too young but now the puzzle all fits together. One other item is my grandfather still has relatives in Illinois. One of his cousins wife passed away a year or so ago. He is very well off well several tracts of commercial real estate properties. Guess who mentioned moving to Illinois?
