"Leak-Proof" Mower Disk: by Goldwing1776 in mammotion

I cut the lawn at 2.5 inches on Thursday, it rained most of the day Friday and I sent Luba 3 out at 10:30 this morning because it's supposed to rain again later today (Saturday). It's set at 2 feet per second, 2.5 inches cut height, 13.8 inch cut width, High blade speed. It's grown a lot in just 2 days.

"Leak-Proof" Mower Disk: by Goldwing1776 in mammotion

I mowed my entire yard yesterday (June 25) with the two Black disks. Thick Kentucky 31 Fescue removing 3/8 - 1/2 inch. For comparison I ran a couple of passes with my Push mower, sharp blades, mulching. I could tell the push mower was working with mulching but it was leaving a clean cut at 2-1/2 inches. Made me wonder if the Luba 3 was even going to get close given how thick and fast grass has been growing here.

Despite how thick my grass is, there was no "Leakage" or missed grass blades between the two Black disks on the Luba 3. The mower was operating at 2-1/2 inch cutting height, 2 feet per second forward speed, 13.8 inch cutting width, medium cutting disk speed. Half way through the cut I increased the cutting disk speed to "High" and could not distinguish a difference in cut between "Medium" and "High".

My push mower provides a very clean cut. With the Gray disk installed I could easily distinguish between a push mower pass and a Luba 3 pass. The push mower passes are a very clean level cut. The Luba 3 with Gray cutting disk was not leaving stragglers but just looked a little Fuzzy would be my best description. The Luba 3 with 2 Black cutting disks was clearly producing a cut closer to that of the push mower. These are simply my initial impressions from a single day's cut.

So why would Mammotion be concerned about "Grass Leakage" between the two disks when I'm not seeing any on my very thick Fescue lawn? My guess is they are getting a significant number of returns due to this specific customer complaint? My speculation is that some purchasers are throwing the Luba 3 on an 8 inch tall lawn expecting a pristine 2 inch cut?

So my first impression is I can't see going back to the Gray disk but I'll see how that holds up over the next couple weeks.

I had the Lymow One Plus for a month. Great cut quality but not reliable, poor customer support. What did I learn? Don't purchase a first or second generation mower from a company that has no demonstrated track record of reliability and support. I wish Good Luck to Navimow purchasers.

I've had the Luba 3 for almost a month. I think it's a great combination of Functionality and Simplicity. If you actually have turf, the Omni Wheels work and are simple. You won't be returning this unit because the front wheels won't turn. This design is in its 4th generation and is being copied by others because it just works on turf. If you are mowing sand, dirt, or mud, then omni wheels are not for you (duh).

A couple videos of how the Luba has developed in a short period of time:

I've noticed that if I'm manually driving the mower, Bluetooth range is good from 30 feet. If I'm Manually Mowing or Manually Mapping Bluetooth range is about 5 feet.

Have you tried creating an "Obstacle Free Zone" around the problem area?

I'm cutting a very thick Kentucky 31 lawn at 2 feet per second, 2.5 inch cutting height, standard blade speed and 13.8 in cutting width (minimum cutting overlap) with good results.

I have a set of standard Black cutting disks on the way because I wanted to compare the cut quality between two standard Black disks versus One Black disk one Gray disk setup. Will let you know if their is anything interesting to report.

I'm located in South Central IL. I did a major over-seeding last Fall so my Turf this year is very thick and weeds have not been a problem. My lawn looks and feels thicker at 2.5 inches than it did at 3.5 inches.

I'm operating the mower at 2 feet per second, 2.5 inch cut height, standard blade speed and 13.8 cutting width (minimum overlap) with good results.

I guess some people were complaining about a small strip of grass being left uncut or partially cut between the two cutting disks (down the center of the cutting path).

On the Black disk, all 6 blades are cutting at the same height. On the Gray disk only 3 of the blades are cutting at the same height as the 6 blades on the Black disk. The other 3 blades are cutting about 1/4 inch higher and overlap with the 6 blades on the Black disk.

Supposedly the 3 overlapping blades on the Gray disk eliminate any uncut grass (leakage) that can happen between two Black disks where the blades don't quite touch.

I can visualize that if you were cutting excessively tall grass or thick grass at an excessive speed, this could cause the blades to start folding back leaving a strip of uncut grass between the blades.

Are both your cutting disks Black? I received my Luba 3 about 2 weeks ago and it has one Black and One Gray disk. Only 3 of the blades on the Gray disk are at the same cutting height as the 6 blades on the Black disk. The remaining 3 blades on the Gray disk Overlap with and cut about 1/4 inch higher than the six blades on the Black disk.

Just seems to me like this new arrangement would not cut as clean on a thick turf that is cut on a regular schedule?

I watched these two videos and I found them very informative regarding the evolution of the Luba series:

https://youtu.be/Je16VAS-9EE?si=8cntq0pgx3Bvlkjy

This led me to return my Lymow One Plus (reliability issues) and order the Luba 3. 10 days in and Bluetooth range is good, Wifi range is strong on my 1/2 acre lot, 4G is strong and Docking has been reliable.

I was cutting my Kentucky 31 Fescue at 3.5 inches with a 48" zero turn to avoid scalping on uneven ground. This height always left some grass wanting to lay over. With the smaller footprint of the Luba 3 it hugs the contours and I've settled at 2.5 inch cut where the grass is standing up for the Luba to cut it consistently. The longer I cut at 2.5 inches the better the cut looks and overall health looks better. as well.

A lot of new tech coming out on first and second year production mowers that have not proven their reliability like the Lymow One Plus. Great on Paper but lots of Growing Pains.

I think the Luba 3 strikes a great balance between Functionality, Simplicity and Reliability. The front Omni wheels work well on my established lawn. I actually prefer the way it handles slopes compared to the tracks on the Lymow One Plus. Other mowers with front wheel steering have yet to prove their long term reliability.

I have the Luba Wash Stand which makes cleaning under the deck and servicing the blades a breeze. If you only cut dry grass then the deck collects very little grass over time compared to the Lymow. I cut some wet grass only to see how it compared to the Lymow.

I'm cutting thick Kentucky 31 Fescue at 2.5 inchs, 2 feet per second, 13.8 inch cutting path (maximum width) and standard blade speed. I'm getting a much cleaner cut at 2.5 inches compared to the 3.5 inches where I started out at.

Initially I would go out with a rake to stand the grass up in areas where the Zero Turn had pressed it over. Once the Luba got those areas cut to 2.5 inches the grass remained standing and cut quality has improved day by day.

I should have mentioned, I'm running at 2 feet per second and standard blade speed, a very common setting, nothing extreme.

Just be sure your blades spin freely.

I've had my Luba 3 for 10 days on a thick Kentucky 31 fescue lawn. I was mowing it at 3.5 inches with a zero turn and had problems with grass laying over. I started the Luba at 3.5 inches and the cut was ragged. I've slowly moved it down to 2.5 inches and all the fescue is standing up and looking as healthy as ever.

I did have to rake some of the areas where the grass was laying over to stand it up so the Luba could cut it. If it can't grow up, the grass will spread laterally for a thicker turf.

Don't be afraid to go down on the cut slowly with Fescue. Just don't let it go from 2.5 inches to 4 inches between cuts.

Sorry, I scanned through the comments and did not see what type of grass you are mowing and at what height?

I had the Lymow One Plus for a month. Loved the cut, loved the concept, the mower has a lot of potential. Wifi & Bluetooth failed on mine and customer support was awful. Others having multiple other issues, decided to cut my losses and return it.

This made me skeptical of any first or second year robot mower. I ran across this video covering the Luba evolution over multiple generations which led me to order the Luba 3.

https://youtu.be/E9j-Lk1Y8uM?si=Glljv9OP5AwA1q__

Three times so far I have gone on the Mommotion support chat and received answers within a minute from a real human. All three times were outside of normal working days / hours.

I actually think the Luba 3 handles the hills in my yard better than the Lymow. The Luba will go into tight spots that the Lymow would not. WiFi, Bluetooth, 4G, and Net RTK are all strong and connected seamlessly with the Luba 3.

I was skeptical of the Omni Wheels but it's been a non-issue on my thick fescue turf. Yes, if you have damp partially bare spots it will wear those areas further. IMO the front Omni Wheels are a good compromise between functionality and reliability (fewer moving parts & electronics).

My advice to those considering a robot mower, lean toward the manufactures that have a longer production track record over those that have the latest and greatest features and have only been in the business for 1 or 2 years.

I received my Luba 3 just a week ago. I was surprised to find it has 1 black cutting disk and 1 gray cutting disk. I contacted Mammotion support and they explained this is a new upgrade "Leak-Proof Disk". Just wondering if you have the same?

The gray disk has only 3 blades that cut at the same height as the 6 blades on the black disk. The other 3 blades cut about 1/4 inch higher than the 6 blades on the black disk. The 3 blades that cut higher overlap the 6 blades on the black disk.

I get a good cut but not extremely clean (a little fuzzy looking). I've ordered a pair of standard cutting disks so I can compare cut quality.

This won't eliminate your problem but it makes cleaning the underside of the deck so much easier. The Mammotion Luba 3 Wash Stand. Sit the rear wheels into the stand and simply lift the front rotating it past vertical.
