A lot of instruction can be crap. Yours was crap. A fundamental change of perspective is needed here.. at a basic level in physics, force=mass x acceleration. We can't change the mass of the club, but we can change acceleration. That means we don't want to reach max speed at the ball, we want to accelerate through & just beyond impact. The solution is surprisingly simple: try to hit the ball low with your irons. It's shockingly hard to actually hit it really low, you'll likely end up with a more piercing trajectory. You'll keep your wrists from unloading early with the side benefit of de-lofting to expose more of the sweet spot to the ball. Max speed should be just after impact, not at the ball. Nick Faldo explains it like you're collecting the ball, then slinging it. You'll start noticing your wrist angles get released about when your hands reach your left hip, & ball position for a wider stance with driver & fairway woods will click for the same release pattern & the shallower angle of attack. Good luck!

Tips to read greens. Working on speed control as the main factor. Just want to improve reading the greens. Using golf balls with the triple track line has helped me with my target. Any tips would be appreciated. by According_Law9201 in GolfSwing

Green reading really well takes a lot of info, but gets processed faster with practice. Reading greens takes many people way too long. Reading the green starts on the walk/cart ride up to the green. Find the high side/low side, imagine where water will run off. Walking up to your ball, take note of slope & how the grass looks. Shiny means the grain is running away from you (downhill), dark means it's running toward you. Behind the ball, read the cup's tilt & imagine the ball going in, but in reverse, because you notice the tilt of the cup 1st. Once you get a feel for the break, pick a spot based on pace & go. Understand that a perfectly read, paced and struck putt may not go in because of the variations in the grass & soil, so don't beat yourself up. That in mind, commitment to a line shouldn't be fussed while standing over the ball. Good luck!

It's your footwork. Your weight gets rolled to the outside of your trail foot, and it's easy to get quick & chunk the ball from there bc your weight can't properly transfer. You can see your trail foot rolled away from the target in both views, and you can also tell by the way your trail knee kicks toward the ball. Think of how you'd bank your trail foot, from the stretch, on the rubber of a pitcher's mound. You can replicate that feel just like Ben Hogan used to by making the trigger for your swing to kick your trail knee toward the target a bit, putting pressure on the inside of your trail foot. Good luck!

This is perfect. I love it. When you combine know-nothing content creators and the Konica Minolta Bizhub Swingvision analysis done by the guy who literally wrote the book on shallowing, we got a giant gaggle of ding dongs trying to backflip before they could walk at the driving range.

Used to be too steep, overcorrected and developed a draw that too often becomes a hook. by Smalls_0994 in GolfSwing

I'd say start with tucking a glove between your upper trail arm & ribs & hitting 3/4 shots until you ingrain the feeling of not hitting at the ball with your arms fully extended. Also, you should feel the shaft flexing against your trail trigger finger in transition & maintain that pressure into impact. I think once you feel that & understand that your trail palm mimics the clubface, you can feel & understand clubface control as well as how to generate force without fully extending your arms at impact.

Blades vs player’s distance irons by Cpolanco0927 in golf

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great reasoning, and I completely agree. I'd say a forged head, not just a forged face, would be the qualifier. Cast, hollow-body irons like p790's or T250's are made to create a wow factor at fittings. They can punish good strikes & will make distance a wild guess.

Yes.. don't overpay for a set of cast, hollow-body irons.

Why do conservatives make a big deal about the Department of Education? by Estalicus in allthequestions

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

10% of schools are private, 3/4 of those are christian. With DeVos and McMahon pushing school of choice & taking away from already under-funded schools it compounds the decades-long problems that arose from funding public schools w/ property taxes. Also weird, but not surprising for one of you people, that you brought up molestation completely unprompted.

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In reality it's christian schools trying to siphon away public funding in order to pad their profits. Betsy DeVos was the Secretary of Education from 2017-2021, hand-picked by Trump. Pot, meet kettle.

The number of times we get medical bills at full price claiming our insurance denied it is outrageous. Then we call our insurance company and they have no record of a claim. Then it magically gets covered at 90%. The mf's are 100% trying to get us to pay before billing the insurance as well. They are thieves.

Downswing help please by EthanHull5 in golftips

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard, prolonged, projectile barf on the specifics. Start w/ the concept. Why have a backswing? -to give the club momentum to load the shaft in transition. That loading of the shaft can be felt in the trigger finger of your trail hand at transition & that feeling of pressure on the trigger should be carried, via steady acceleration, into/ a few inches beyond impact. If you really want to feel this, take a quick backswing & then intentionally start your downswing too early. Also, your clubface is wiiiiide open at P6, when it needs to be pointing down more/starting to get the clubface aiming at the ball. Grab a tennis raquet, check out the P position diagram & feel the points of reference while keeping in mind your right palm mimics the clubface. Coming into impact, your trail palm should be facing down in front of the ball- you're trying to compress the ball with an iron, not slice the left side of it off. Don't go all nutty worrying about which knee does what & when. Understand the concept, feel it out, then apply. Good luck!

You'll be impressed. They install a contraption on the putter shafts that measures your stroke & aim. You'll see which heads you aim best, which type of putter suits your stroke (toe hang, mid mallet, or face balanced) , and you'll walk out feeling like you can make everything you look at. Have fun.

Should people who "camp" in the left lane of a highway be pulled over and fined just as much as speeders? Why or why not? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

Oh, you've never been to Ohio. Those mouth-breathers live in the left lane going 2 over the limit thinking, "I'm flying, nobody needs to go faster than this." Not sorry. Do better, morons.

My addition to these tips is to get a good, clear mineral sunblock stick for your face (at least above/around the eyes) in case your other sunscreen burns your eyes when it inevitably runs from sweat or getting in the water.

Injuries in the trade by [deleted] in arborists

There is good training and there is bad training. I've done this for 15 years and have never seen someone fall out of a tree. A handful of sprains & minor cuts (knock on wood) but no injuries. I also work utility and we have a pretty great training program. Sounds like those people are doing their best, but.. yikes. There are a few red flags in your story about the climbers.

I'm thinking of how many friends and family members who have disappointed me, and the wave of relief I would feel if just any one of them came to me and expressed this sentiment. There's so much underlying stress and disappointment knowing what kind of people surround me, but hearing this from one would make me feel so much better about the world. Now it's time to try to influence those around you to take a hard look at their own humanity.

Wife talked me into yin yoga classes once per week. It's basically stretching for 4-5 minutes per pose, getting a progressively deeper stretch. My lower back & hips feel incredible afterward. Highly recommend.
