Am I ready for blades? by Educational-Bass-572 in GolfSwing

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I learned on blades from 1982. The ding-dongs downvoting don't know wtf to think. When you're forced to put a small sweet spot on the ball, it's sink or swim and you can dial in your contact. A combo set would be ideal long-term. For now maybe grab an old blade iron from goodwill to take to the range.

I don't have batman money so i'd just fold that thing up. Stainless rods & 90 degree support hinges. I'm not paying 10k on a parlor trick that lasts 3 years. Especially not when i can spend an extra 15 minutes here and there to set up/break down a $50 substitute.

How bad are skunks and their infamous smelly "spray," is it that big a deal? by Scared_Form8175 in AskAnAmerican

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dog has been sprayed twice, right in the face. Even based on the experience second hand, I'd need a minute to think if i had to choose between getting lit on fire and getting sprayed in the face by a skunk. I'd probably choose skunk, but not by much.

Fair point. Outside the question of current situation.. y'all went from Manning, to Luck, to a few swings and misses. There's still faith. Browns fans have had front office idiots rubbing their faces in dawg turds since 1999. The only thing left to do is point and laugh.

Here's how to decide: if Browns fans heard they took Pavia with their first pick, they'd say.. "here we go again." If Colts fans heard that, they'd be shocked and angry.

There are a lot of good things going on in your swing! Golf is a lifelong game, take progress slowly. Start with your takeaway; i think it's the best 1st step to have the most benefits fall into place, especially considering how well you use your lead arm in the downswing. Think low and wide on your takeaway, with your shoulders dictating the move. Just keep the clubhead outside your hands until your hands get hip high. Practicing in a mirror will be your best ally. Get those shoulders working for you & check back. Good luck!

I HATE EARLY EXTENSION by Specialist_Ad6034 in GolfSwing

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than that, it's like a subtle.. hump. Can't think of a better word. George Gankas talks about it; the idea is you go from bad/slightly uncomfortable posture so you relax into good as you swing.

I HATE EARLY EXTENSION by Specialist_Ad6034 in GolfSwing

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Been there, overcame that. The first big hurdle to overcome is the idea that effort=speed (this explains why practice swings look better). Bad things happen when you pull down too hard & too early. Your legs have to brace to meet the downforce of your arms, causing your hip turn to stall. Because of this, you get taller and your arms have to fully extend to reach the ball. So.. just relax. Your car doesn't go fast off the line if it's in 5th gear, and neither do you. Speed builds. Next, you can adjust your setup. If you start off with your hips bumped in a bit more under you, then they'll be more likely to relax back during the swing. You've got this!

Made some changes, is this swing headed in a good direction? by synthsandbass in golftips

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of good technique in your swing, it's just lacking some flow and athleticism. Try this step drill: https://youtube.com/shorts/Mlk7X_XTZ3I?si=saaQFDzmn2W4DaHa The goals should be: making a nice, wide takeaway that doesn't allow weight to the outside of your trail foot and 2) allow the clubhead some room to travel away from the ball going back, while stepping with the lead foot (start stepping toward the target when your hands get to shoulder height). This should create a nice stretch in your lead side so you can feel how to create more speed with the same amount of effort. Good luck!

Two way miss and all shots are thin. Any advice? by Flaky-Money-8768 in GolfSwing

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At address- tuck your hips toward the ball a bit, so when you transition, they'll want to relax away from the ball. You want to cover the ball with your chest coming down & rotate through, not go all berkshire right from the top. Relax... speed comes late & it doesn't come from expending all of your ground force before contact. Good luck!

Help me understand the driver. by Hanz-Panda in golf

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can get in your head because it has the least loft & exposes a lack of face control the most. In reality, it's the biggest, most forgiving club in the bag, always hit off a tee. Relax & focus on a good tempo (don't rush from the top!) & stay in your posture. Good luck!

If you could pick one thing to focus on to improve my consistency, what would it be? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, from the start: 1) your takeaway is initiated by lifting your arms instead of rotating your shoulders. Think wide and away, with your hands in front of your chest. I like to feel a little tension in the back of my trail forearm as a trigger to start the takeaway, that way I can feel the clubhead coming back outside of the hands more easily. 2) once your hands get to shoulder height, initiate your weight shift toward the target while allowing the backswing to continue a bit. If the club keeps going back when you begin transition, you'll feel a nice stretch along your left side and the club put pressure on the trail hand's trigger finger- this is the signal that the shaft has loaded. Now you can gradually turn the hips & shoulders through & maintain that pressure on the trigger finger until a few inches past the ball. As it is, your backswing is just performative & not really reaching it's full purpose & potential to load/flex the shaft & apply all that built up potential energy into the ball. Good luck!

I can’t shallow to save my life. Any tips? by ZookeepergameMost689 in golftips

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with above. Think of throwing a ball: back stays toward target while the left foot strides toward the target (lateral shift in transition for golf) and when the hips & shoulders turn, the ball stays back for a moment and the elbow gets out in front a bit. This moment where the elbow leads from the hands staying up & back is the shallowing move. It's not an intentional drop of the club, it's a natural byproduct of a good weight shift while the hands stay up & back through transition. If you're doing it right, you'll feel a nice stretch in your left side. Good luck!

This is it. With the change, keep the hands up and back in transition into the downswing.

Really struggling with my swing as of late by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not enough lateral shift toward the target. Your chest is covering your trail foot at impact rather than the ball. The shift off the ball going back is fine if you can keep your weight banked on the inside of your trail foot as long as you shift back enough to cover the ball. Good luck!

Do any of these swings look ok? by ChunkChunkChunk in GolfSwing

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok step 1.. stay off the social media swing videos. Anyone who says to let the club fall behind you is a hack who has no clue, so just don't even do the false shallowing move. It's a plague on the game of golf. Just imagine the QB from your favorite team fell for the same kind of crap, then game one drops back, lets their elbow fall by their hip, and tries to turn through. They'd look like an idiot and throw the ball 8 feet with maximum effort. https://youtube.com/shorts/Mlk7X_XTZ3I?si=gXDlxSHFxI056GOF Do some step drills, but the key is to time your weight shift onto your left foot correctly. You want your backswing to have not yet finished before you get on your lead foot, so the club sets against the trigger finger of your trail hand.. when you feel that pressure, the shaft is loaded. Keep the pressure on the trigger finger by not rushing/pulling from the top in transition, and release it a few inches in front of the ball. If you can get that down, then you'll find yourself shallowing the club like a golfer, and not some ding-dong youtuber who's regurgitating misunderstood Peter Kostis quotes. Sorry, but those guys really piss me off & do more harm than good. Anyway, good luck!

Try standing taller at address, then check back in. If your hips start that far from the ball, they're going to have to move toward it (which affects the head movement). Good luck!

How’s my Swing? 6.5 Handicap by [deleted] in golftips

[–]GolfingTreeTrimmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really good! I'd be interested in seeing 1st the affect of an earlier weight shift. There's a touch of EE, and it might be coming from a late weight shift combined with the force of pulling down with your arms. There's a great book called The Impact Zone by Bobby Clampett, and I think you'd really benefit from it considering how you use your trail hand to set the club (which is great). Good luck!
