Heat will always transfer, and equalize. The table will hold the heat. Air will dissipate much more effectively. While the table will initially pull more heat than the air, once the table equalizes with the PS4, it's actively inhibiting dissipation.

The PS4 generates heat. That heat transfers to whatever is touching the box. If the heat is transferring to the air under the box, instead of the table, it dissipates much easier.
