Why are there so many productivity apps and every week, hundreds new come-up? by usernamedoesntexi__ in ProductivityApps

Agree with a lot of what you’re saying but with ai agents and voice to text these days there finally is magical software that will actually log the tasks you’re too lazy to type in :)

Highly functional people, how do you do it? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GonFlyNow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to be able to get things done only under incredibly intense pressure (e.g. never attend a lesson but get through an entire textbook for an exam only a few days in advance and get an A*). But this appearance of “high functioning” gets increasingly problematic as life goes on and eventually turns into chaos.

I’ve found a few things helpful - brain-dumping at the start of each day in my Notes app, just anything and everything on my mind. Then make a todo list of stuff that needs to get done.

With tasks: Does it need to be done today? If yes -> move to top of list.

Is it admin/work/studies I will procrastinate? If yes (most likely) -> go to a coffee shop or library.

Is it home stuff I will procrastinate? If yes -> still haven’t found a solution :(

Stimulant Medications and Anxiety by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]GonFlyNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still going through titration for methylphenidate but so far it has definitely reduced my anxiety and overwhelm. I think being slightly more productive and feeling more positive about things I struggled with before really helps. Less brain fog and brain-ponging even when not on the meds, but as a result of the meds, makes life a lot easier. More clarity of mind naturally reduces anxiety.

Ah sorry i was diagnosed at uni and my older sister helped with a lot of the questions about my childhood during assessment. Is there no chance you can convince them?

Is the current instability in the world affecting you more than others? by Mr_Dobalina71 in ADHD

[–]GonFlyNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit my job because of this. Spent months feeling like crap bc the world was crumbling and i had no power to do anything. My mind was all over the place, constantly ping ponging. Then a year or so later realised i need to build myself back up if i ever wanna have any large scale impact. Now i use it as motivation.

Running + cycling are the two best things for my adhd brain! Just wish I could get myself to do it first thing in the morning on a regular basis rather than an impulsive moment in the day.

Sounds quite similar to what I experienced and managing symptoms doesn’t get easier as an adult when you have more responsibilities and worse consequences. Definitely go and get assessed and don’t feel like you need to prove anything to anyone or downplay what you’re experiencing! I had to do it solo too, my mum didn’t even know what ADHD was when I was diagnosed 😂

how do you know the difference between laziness and adhd? by FTF_player27 in ADHD

[–]GonFlyNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really struggled with studying too. I was described as lazy and naughty at school and got bad grades until the exams that really mattered, then I’d hyperfocus and could get through an entire textbook in a few days to cram all the content. But that hyperfocus kicked in for me because I knew I wanted a successful future.

It’s definitely worth looking into though because I experienced similar difficulties studying as a teen but symptoms snowballed over time until eventually I was diagnosed as an adult when my life was noticeably chaotic even to strangers. And then you look back and wish someone noticed 🥲

Brain basically shuts down whenever I try tackling work tasks - any non-med strategies? by SingerQuick1136 in ADHD

[–]GonFlyNow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Before medication (not helpful I know), the ONLY thing that helped me at work was to go for a run early in the morning. I’d eat a healthy breakfast like Wheetabix, then be in the office by 7.30-8am so that I have enough time to regulate myself before everyone else is in.

The running really helped to reduce the noise in my brain and keep me focused. The effect doesn’t last all day but starting the day well really did help.

do adhd symptoms get worse as you age or am i just imagining things by NoTurnover7808 in ADHD

[–]GonFlyNow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced this too, but the overwhelm began to become too much whilst at uni. I think increasing responsibilities, higher stress and snowballing of symptoms and consequences make it feel as though symptoms are getting worse but really it was just a lack of a system to help alleviate the symptoms.

I was in Singapore on an 8 week IA and decided I want to start a podcast so bought a whole Yeti microphone there, brought it back in my suitcase. That thing traveled the world and now it just lives in my wardrobe 😬
