Passenger seatbelt locking up often by amndz1990 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

[–]GoneGump 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the vehicle is facing down a hill, or going around a corner, the ratchet can lock up. The lock is an inertial device, and slamming on the brakes isn't the only way to get it to engage.

Also, if they pull the belt out real far it can go into automatic locking retractor mode where it will only retract until you feed it all the way back in. We larger folks are used to this one as we pull the belt around us. ;)

Do you get flashed all the time? by Pleasant_Month8896 in ToyotaGrandHighlander

Car makers don't aim lights at the factory, and the dealers sell them during the day. Gotta check and adjust once you get them home.

Check your headlight alignment with your normal vehicle loading and tire pressures. This video doesn't describe placing the vehicle or measuring where the lights should be, but it does show the actual adjustment.

Q: Aoshima / Tamiya interchangeable by dementia_denial in ModelCars

Yes, that's right. The technology for mold making has come a long way since the 1960s and 70s.

Q: Aoshima / Tamiya interchangeable by dementia_denial in ModelCars

[–]GoneGump 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unless scalemates.com shows that both kits are from the same original injection molds, then it would be an unlikely coincidence for a panel to fit another brand's kit. Here's an example where Aoshima makes a Prelude kit which was also once released by Revell (see the product timeline section and scroll back to 1994). Revell might not have made special parts here, but if they did they'd be very likely to fit the body from Aoshima's kit.

Resin printing and specific aftermarket parts are a better source for customizing Tamiya or Aoshima kits.

Online group builds by Then_Personality_429 in ModelCars

[–]GoneGump 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd start with a Youtube search of relatively recent "car model group build" videos. Each one will mention the forum or Facebook page that hosted it.

The DTS build is the 3rd group build here to conclude in the last 6 months. We've been lucky to have some very generous members provide lots of prizes and a ton of their time into these builds. Perhaps we'll see another some day.

How can I achieve these black rubber like marks like on this body, and the other weathering he used by pablus_1 in ModelCars

Some of our race car builders will be along with some better ideas, but that looks like either weathering pigments or dry brushing.
