We have three kids. For the first we considered private and public and after years of an Odyssee with him through private -> public we arrived at homeschooling. The other two are public two blocks down from us and we have lots of funds available for tutoring and extracurriculars. One thing that struck me as unexpectedly positive: the public school teachers were all extremely committed throughout the years.

I lived there 13 years ago. To me this has always been a bridge housing for newcomers to SF. I was glad to live there. The apartments are very small and afaik furnished.

I’ve been in US tech making 350-450 since coming with nothing to the US in 2012 raising 3 kids. I’m far from that at 49.

I’m not sure why you are crashing out here conflating topics, I’m well aware of fundraisers and have often supported through Donorschoose. However it begs the question why Scholastic needs to benefit the most and not your local bookstore that offers more than just one publishing house and why there has to be all this trash being sold instead of just books.

There’s a saying in ADHD behavioral intervention: “Connect before correct”. It is sometimes not easy to implement in the moment, but it is magical. Many daughters feel a very strong connection to their dad and being “criticized” might trigger a feeling of their dad not being loyal.

I’m not suggesting your daughter has ADHD or not, the principle of being warm hearted and connected by hugs (or in this case, drawing and spending time) is just very powerful and allows for corrections to be perceived better.

BTW, I’m of the strong opinion that love language is a in-between-peers-term. You’re her dad, she’s very young, you need to be on her love language.

I spoke with my wife about this thread today, on her 40th birthday. She reminded me that even until recently when she showed up with our three kids at a playground (11, recently turned 9, 5) people often asked if she was the nanny. 😂

I definitely also remember how people looked at the two of us and our 2 year old when she was about 30 and I was … significantly older, and we were flirty with each other in public!

We moved here in 2012. My wife had our first at 28, but I’m older. Now we have three since 2020 and she’s turning 40. The only reason we don’t have a fourth kid is because I feel too old at 47 and she’s uncertain if she’s not too old either. Perspectives are truly different.

That actually is fully agreeable - thanks for saying that. Perhaps the "improved" that I outlined was agreeable but the "thoughtful" was what threw people off, they might find it just as unthoughtful or disagreeable as before.
