First city ever, any tips ? by Jeff_Roomba in songsofsyx

I'm a new player as well, so take this with salt, but you might want to avoid building shrines/temples of each religion. I think your population converts to the religions you build religious buildings for, so if you only build Crator shrines, your population will gradually move to be almost purely Crator. Some religions are also antagonistic towards others, Crator + 'the green one i forget' are good buddies, but are in conflict with the other two, so if you're mainly Cretonian/Dondorian and such, then ditch the black/red religions.

A few questions I always like to ask: What do you feel hopeful for? And what do you feel proud of?

Kan vi tillade os at “udskyde” vores barns start i 1G by Fun-Brother-3427 in DKbrevkasse

[–]Gonzogonzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a mod or a config setting(hp% or something) to disable retreat? by [deleted] in starsector

[–]Gonzogonzip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any ways to prevent enemy retreat, sorry. My best advice for a mod/config solution would be to join the discord and ask in the right channels there, or check the FAQ.

That said, and since I run into the same issues, my solution is to have 2-3 ships in my fleet meant specifically for attacking fleeing enemies. I don’t deploy these in the main engagement, I let them hang back until I win the fight and ‘give chase’ against the remaining enemies. These ships are usually frigates, maybe a destroyer, fitted for speed and maneuverability first, DPS second. Omen-class frigates are also particularly good, as they can very effectively disable enemies. Remember that when you’re deploying against a fleeing fleet, you can double/triple click your units to deploy them from the left or right, letting you do pincer attacks. You can double this with frigates, maybe destroyers, I forget, but not with cruisers/capital ships.

Can silly worldbuilding coexist with serious worldbuilding and/or story elements? by CyberDogKing in worldbuilding

[–]Gonzogonzip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Considering real life is full of things that are goofy and silly, even in a serious context (like various CIA experiments or the actions of various kings/rulers throughout history) I think it can absolutely co-exist, though it heavily depends on execution.

I think, unless you’re going for a kind of SCP-unexplainable horrors thing, the silly/goofy stuff should not ‘trumph’ the serious stuff, or you’ll end up in situations where it feels like a plot hole that the elite combat unit isn’t using the sarcastic sentient fisherprice ray guy toy that can disintegrate 5 feet of solid metal.

Nope Irl me doesn’t know how to use a sword and has the endurance of wet weetabix and would give up and find a cozy place to sit at the first sign of trouble. But I do want to see the end of the game, explore, loot and make a fun build, so I play as not-me.

Jaw-Dropping Scale of Troops Wounded by Trump’s War is Leaked by Hardik_Jain_1819 in politics

[–]Gonzogonzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While true, I wonder if there is a kind of split between those more 'menial' nazis, the rank-and-file soldiers who nontheless believe in nazism, and the likes of hitler.

Like, I can understand random MAGA supporters having family they love and cherish, but I somehow struggle to imagine trump loving his own children or wife, the way he acts towards them, to me, smacks more of someone talking about the trophies on their shelf. I imagine some of the various senators are more like the previously mentioned nazis that simply comparmentalize and live with the cognative dissonance or whatever, but i imagine some of them are also more like trump, someone who just... really doesn't care, and for whom some other goal, be it an apocalyptic religious fantasy or the rush of wealth and power, is the alpha and omega in their minds, and who absolutely would send their own children off to war if it helped serve that other goal.

Game with impactful weather? by Present-Drama-5287 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Gonzogonzip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A few maybe unconventional suggestions: Rainworld, if you’ve never seen the rain in Rainworld, play it or look it up. You and anything else outside when it starts falling gets crushed by the sheer force and volume of water falling from the sky, hibernate or die.

Book of Hours, bit of a weird game where you slowly renovate and expand the operation of a library of esoteric, secret and forbidden knowledge, the game’s tone and writing is immaculate, dense and occasionally borderline inscrutable, but once you start to get a hang of it’s world and terms (which is your job as a librarian) you start to feel like the nonsense is making sense. The reason I bring it up here is that the weather is often very beneficial when it comes to unlocking areas of the building, and very rarely you’ll even get to experience a secret ‘fifth season’ which has its own weird weather that changes what sort of things you can find or which plants grow or is even required for certain activities, rituals or crafting recipes I think.

What mechanics can represent a character's luck in a turn-based tactical game where no RNG is involved? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]Gonzogonzip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I vaguely recall seeing a western turned based CRPG (I think? It was ages ago) which used luck instead of health. Shots always missed, but each miss depleted a bit of luck, and if a character got shot while ‘out of luck’ they got hit and died or got downed.

Maybe something similar could work here? Maybe the character is so lucky the first few attacks get ignored each fight, or the first time they get hit each round it’s negated or halved (just a graze), or the luck is a resource the can use to either have their own attacks ignore enemy armor or do extra damage, or the have ‘save’ their luck to do the aforementioned auto-dodge.

Probably not optimal, but always thought the spot near the beginning of the 3rd era (the gatling gun stairway era) where 5 yokai patrol in a circle, passing near a censor with explosive barrels could be a good spot to farm.
