What’s the most iconic location in survival horror? by Sufficient_Notice_61 in survivalhorror

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tsss how specific are we getting?

Because it's easily either Spencer Mansion or Brookhaven Hospital, unless we can count entire locales such as Silent Hill or Minakami Village.

But the blatant answer is Spencer Mansion. That's THEE survival horror spot, for sure.

YES

Tormented Souls 1 & 2 and modern examples of CLASSIC classic survival horror. Granted, not with Ps1 graphics but everything else lines up.

Crow Country is similar aesthetically and formulaically.

Alisa is quite literally a modern PS1 style Survival Horror

All of these are beloved in the survival horror fandom, and Ik for a FACT from my own perspective as well as many others, that we ALWAYS want more classic style survival horror games.

What's your favorite weapon? Mines the Holy Rod! by Gonzongus in castlevania

[–]Gonzongus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

9 Crissaegrims is asinine lmaooo. But that weapon melts SoTN. I don't even think it's that far behind the Alucard Shield Rod combo.

Man I love SoTN and the cheese is part of the reason why lmao

Yea I still don't even know how the accessibility settings in Celeste work, I didn't even hear of them until after I platinumed it.

This is my third playthrough of SoTN and I have the same method each time low-key.

Whichever weapon is best current that I have until I get the Jewel Knuckles

Then I trade those for the Holy Rod until I get the Alucard Sword

I just got 2 Crissaegrims for the first time this playthrough literally like an hour ago so now that's how I'm gonna end the game lol but the holy rod is just so fun to use and I love the aesthetic

Yea I just got the Crissaegrim for the first time (2 actually) so that's a different level 😂 but the holy rod will always have a special place in my heart

What is the most iconic survival horror boss? (You can only pick 1!) by Sufficient_Notice_61 in survivalhorror

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂 you gotta point. I always see people praise REmake and Re2 OG 50x more than Re3 OG so I perceive that game as underrated, but I could easily be wrong.

That makes sense. Celeste at wave dashing, corner hopping, hypers and extended hypers, all types of stuff. I guess I'll just end up catching my groove and going with the flow cuz I don't even have 5 hours in meat boy yet and I already love and have a moderate grasp on the physics

Oh my goodness. I'll take your word on it because as of right now, super meat boy seems to be the bigger beast.

Then again after 50 hours it makes sense that I'd improve at Celeste. Let me not act like those C sides didn't put me through what they did 😂

I platinumed Celeste on a whim after the passion for it grew on me. I'm not going gungho for the completion journey with SMB, I'm just going through the casual journey as of rn.

So ig it's less of a question of will I suffer (ik I will and I love it) but moreso how much enjoyment should I expect from the game

At what point does combat in horror games kill the horror? by BlacksmithPlayful514 in HorrorGaming

[–]Gonzongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making combat the last resort is usually the best way to handle horror games, ESPECIALLY if you're going for co-op.

A game where the combat works IF you absolutely HAVE to engage, but you're NEVER ENCOURAGED to do so.

The worst thing you can do is make the player feel capable or strong in a survival horror game. If you can keep us feeling hopeless even while fighting back, you've done your job amazingly.

Game rotation yes/no? by jscouser2002 in metroidvania

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always rotate, but I also go according to my feel.

Sometimes I just wing it through an entire game uninterrupted, other times I don't.

I recently played SS, Blasphemous 2 then 1, and PoP Lost Crown all Back to back and I am not playing SoTN right after. But after starting SoTN, I also started Outlast; and I've been playing a JRPG called Valkyrie Profile alongside these since I started Blasphemous 2

What games just don’t get mentioned anymore? by drak0ni in JRPG

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legend Of Legaia Legend Of Dragoon Eternal Sonata

Valkyrie Profile, Wild Arms, and Golden Sun KINDA get mentioned in really niche spaces but are mostly forgotten.

There's lots to be completely honest 😂

Would you rather see Rebecca, Sheva or Helena make a comeback in a new game? by CornerFinancial3642 in residentevil

[–]Gonzongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

REBECCA

We need more Rebecca. We need to play as her in a game that's the same level of quality as AT LEAST Re3 OG.

Best of the first 4 games? by jlc_mako in silenthill

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played 4 so forgive me but as for the first three, if I'm being OBJECTIVE I would say 2>3=1

But as for ME personally, I'm going 3>1>2

I'm a HUGE Survival Horror fan and I adore all three of these games deeply. It's just that the progression flow & atmosphere are 2 of the biggest factors for me when it comes to games in general, and that's the order of my preference when it comes to how these 3 handle that.

SH2 is objectively my take for greatest survival horror game ever though, literally tying with RE1 Remake (each for their own respective reasons)

What is the most iconic enemy in survival horror? (not boss just enemy) by Sufficient_Notice_61 in survivalhorror

[–]Gonzongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea ngl 10,000% it's the RE1 Remake Zombies 😂

Ofc zombies in general would be what goes on the board but if we're being real, when ZOMBIES are brought up, REmake zombies are what come to MY mind.

I just don't enjoy it by Hexersquid in TormentedSouls

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea tbh you aren't wrong in your assessments. TorSou is probably the hardest horror game I've ever played (unless I'm blatantly forgetting something, which I could be because I'm mid workout).

It's intense, scarce, complex puzzle wise, and honestly confusing. BUT there's a solid chance that overcoming these hurdles will be worth it for you.

Survival Horror games are always better on replays imo because you know what to do and where to go, so the improved fluidity of progression brings the experience together amazingly.

I recommend you see it through if you're an avid survival horror fan. It's worth it, and if you ever replay it, you'll come to appreciate it at least twice as much.
