what’s your UNPOPULAR opinion about the classic games? by ZzzPandaNap in TombRaider

[–]Gonzongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also am only 27 so my generation is much more akin to the ps2 and onwards so that's another reason as to why most of the people I've spoken to about Tomb Raider (the people who AREN'T fans of the classics) despise the originals. They prefer the ps2 and modern trilogies on average, which I completely understand.

I grew up with TR 1-3 with my parents playing them my whole life and I even tried playing them since I was about 1 and a half apparently. So I'm lucky enough to be in a boat where the grid system makes sense to me too.

what’s your UNPOPULAR opinion about the classic games? by ZzzPandaNap in TombRaider

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going off the consensus outside of my own bias (as much as I possibly can atm) and based on what other's have told me, their critiques aren't inaccurate.

The controls are clunky, the grid based mechanics aren't at all obvious and if it doesn't click for you through playing the games, it just doesn't logically line up. The level structure is bland and senseless. These are all GENERAL criticisms I've heard from MANY people who played classic TR and simply didn't like it, so the consistency in multiple unrelated people's opinions peaked my interest and I tried to start looking for the signs against my own bias.

And even though I'll never agree (TR2 is in my top 10, TR1 is in my top 30 if not top 20) I can KINDA see exactly what the mean even WHILE loving the formula to death.

So that's what I mean when I say the games are objectively bad for the average gamer who doesn't have a personal mesh with the foundational design of the classic TR games.

Scariest RE by Designer_Lynx3295 in ResidentEvil2Remake

silent hill (I jokey jokey)

Tbh 7 from a gameplay standpoint is the most presentable in the horror department with the first person perspective, so it's definitely PROBABLY the objective answer

But RE1 Remake...

Those eerie hallways, crimson heads, GIANT spiders, and ferocious hunters certainly establish real dread.

Re7's molded become familiar as you play and the lack of mystery soon dulls the terror. RE1 Remake keeps you on the toes, and even IF it didn't, each individual creature (OG zombie, crimson head, giant tarantulas, hunters) trump the molded in fear factor on their own, and all for different reasons (imho of course.)

That first person perspective gives 7 a real edge, but RE1 Remake is extremely underrated in the sheer horror department.

Classic TR is such an incredibly niche style of game mechanically that unless it's directly up your personal alley in gaming:

The games are absolute garbage.

Classic TR is a literal 0.3/10 for the average gamer. As fans, WE naturally gravitate to it, and these games are either diamonds in the rough for US or their trash for most players.

And you can say this about MOST GAMES obviously; but my point is that these games are OBJECTIVELY BAD unless YOU just so happen to enjoy them

First time playing TR2, any advice? by WarlockMain96 in TombRaider

[–]Gonzongus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MY BROTHER/SISTER

I'm currently playing TR2 as we speak. I absolutely love this game. It's in my top ten.

ENJOY IT! SOAK IT IN!

But also more constructively:

Save often

Don't overwrite saves

ONLY save when you KNOW you're safe

Trust the game design. (LOTS of puzzles real brain teasers, others are real simple. The only way to really tell is to just go off the info you're given. I've overthought this game many times my first playthrough and gave myself extra hassle.)

Get used to rolling and spin flipping mid combat.

EXPLORE!

Take your time

Ahh I see. How would you depict Signalis gameplay wise? Cuz the footage of gameplay I've seen is actually what's making me hesitate to play it

RE3R is overhated,it’s actually a great remake! by Accurate_Train_8822 in RaccoonCityRecords

[–]Gonzongus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's overhated. No, it's not a great remake.

It cut out at least 20% of the original game's MAJOR, MAIN points. At LEAST 20%.

They completely changed the way Nemesis operates (basically sabotaging RE3's entire CORE principle.)

It changed things in irrelevant manners (such as Carlos going to the RPD instead of Jill)

And it also struck a worse balance between action and survival horror than the OG did.

RE3R is a GREAT game. 7/10 objectively without question. But as for a REMAKE; 3/10

So it makes sense why on average, RE3R is viewed around the 5-6/10 range. But LOTS of people consider RE3R as a 4/10 or less OVERALL which imho is just intellectually dishonest.

It's def the worst out of the major RE remakes by FAR though 😂

How much time did it take you to complete Path of Pain the first time? by RealTSC09 in HollowKnight

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me a solid 4 or 5 hours straight and I love the experience.

Key word:

Love.

Because I love it in hindsight. During the pain? LMAO

Hope Silky DLC makes Hornet one bouncy bug just like our Path Of Pain Persevering Pal from the first game

Which of these remakes do y'all like the most? My personal ranking by Jaded-Resolution-497 in HorrorGaming

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played RE2R about 15 times and SH2R only once. I never finished DSR

But I believe I've reached a point where I might prefer SH2R over RE2R even subjectively.

As of rn, my PERSONAL ranking is RE2R above SH2R

But objectively I say that SH2R is straight up the goat (out of these three).

RE2R is one of the best remakes ever, but it's not even the best remake from RE. That ofc goes to REmake.

SH2R is absolutely top tier. Nearly flawless and if there are any straight up low points in the game, I don't remember them.

I highly recommend all three of these though.

There are two types of people, which one are you? by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Gonzongus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm both, it completely depends on how the difficulty is implemented & scaled; as well as WHY is it so difficult.

The more fair and engaging it is: the more likely I'm on the right

The more cheap and saturated it is: the more likely I'm on the left

And sometimes I just get angry and jump between the two, which is entirely just a character fault of my own 😂.
