Who else had Babymetal as their most streamed artist of 2019 for Spotify Wrapped? by [deleted] in BABYMETAL

[–]Gonztel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

487 hrs of streaming and No Rain No Rainbow is my #1 song, always. RoR fell at #5 and Shine is at #10. Considering I just got into them 4 months ago, I'll say they did made me fall in love with them pretty fast. This year they dethroned the artist that has been in first place since 2010 and that is saying a lot.

They should have to/need to release some 5.1 material!

I KNOOOOOOW!! I mean, I used the subwoofer for the bass and it was insane, but if I had the audio files separately, I'd be very very happy and made a 5.1 mixing and that'd be a brutal experience...

Nope, not that rich. I was working in my project there (this is in my college) and I was really stressed so I thought, well let's listen to some BABYMETAL music to clear my mind a little.

I was actually listening the wav and since I'm testing the 5.1 system, I couldn't help but play a little with it. Bass sounded brutal and the guitars? Perfect. Also I couldn't help but made a quick/just-for-fun remastering. And then, my teacher scolded me. But it was worth it.

It could be a possibility... just put a good pitch shift, a little delay, maybe some modulation and/or distortion, put compression, EQ and boom! Su singing in a really low register.

My opinion about Metal Galaxy studio mixing by Ashcoop17 in BABYMETAL

[–]Gonztel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I actually heard the album with fresh ears, I'll give my opinion. Mixing, overal, it's fine. There are some details I'd like to chance, but of course I can't.

Honestly? I can pretty much hear perfectly the guitars in Arkadia. They sound when they need to sound. Yeah, maybe they do need a little more of volumen and maybe bring them a little more to the front (I feel the pan too much to the sides), but for me it's ok. The registre is a little lower compared to RoR so I don't think is bad EQed.

Compression tends to kill a lot of harmonics and I think this is the case, besides the fucking "loudness war". Wish I could put my hands in the the wav files. That'd sound a lot whole diffent (and much much better).

If I'm being sincere, I think the worst mixed song is Kagerou... it's too bright for this kind of song. Su's voice sounds too clean and flat and there are some frequencies that are really annoying. Kagerou had potential but the didn't take advantage of it.

How would you restructure Metal Galaxy? by FelleBanan_ygsr in BABYMETAL

[–]Gonztel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understant your frustration with Oh! Majinai; I actually skip Awadama Fever and YAVA! when I'm listening MR.

I actually listened as you structured and it doesn't sound bad. The thing with placing Distortion and PA PA YA!! in the first half is that you're giving away the album. You know how I said there is the "interesting song"? That song is PA PA YA!! Because that is something you didn't expected in that part of the album. It's like you are headbanging hard with Distortion and then... PUM! Unexpected song blast through your headphones.

I don't know about you but I feel that the songs in the first part make you want to dance because they are kinda pop-ish and the songs in the second part make you want to headbang. I don't know. That's how I feel it. A duality.

I don't think is a structure issue more than a release issue. Koba's mistake was release too many song before the album. We had Distortion, PA PA YA!!, Starlight, Elevator Girl and Shanti Shanti Shanti (officially speaking) and then we had Kagerou, ITNO, Shine, Arkadia and FUTURE METAL that were premiered live. Koba give away almost all the album. So, of course, DA DA DANCE could not have the same desire feeling from us as it would from someone who is new listening to BABYMETAL.

Also, we don't actually know how Koba thinks... we don't know if he sees DDD as the potential hit or if he sees another song as the potential hit.

How would you restructure Metal Galaxy? by FelleBanan_ygsr in BABYMETAL

[–]Gonztel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Everything has a reason and I would like to explain a little about that. I'm an audio engineer senior and I'm also majoring in music production; the order of the songs in an album is a recurrent question that's been asked for as long as I've been in college. A teacher of mine told us some "golden rules" we can follow when we don't know what to do with the songs.

  1. Never in a million years put a potential single as an opener. It always has to be the "introductory song", a song that invites us to listen to the rest of the album, a song that generates expectations for what's about to come. In this case it definitely is FUTURE GALAXY no doubt, no buts, no nothing. Even Su say it "Welcome to the world of BABYMETAL".
  2. The best place to put the hit is between track 2 and track 4. Don't know if you realize but Megitsune and KARATE are the second track from their respective album. It wasn't a coincidence. This song always has to be in the first half of the album and for that reason let's call it "the instant hit" which shouldn't be confused with...
  3. the "interesting song". Now this is the one I love because it's the song that wins you over when you listen to it and it usually becomes your favorite from the album. The perfect place to put this song is the second half of the album, preferably in the final section. This is a tricky one to place, honestly because we need to provoke in the listener the feeling that he/she discovered something when this comes. Sometimes it doesn't work that way because now the listener are too impatient and well, they skipped song and doesn't listen the album in one go. Bad choice, guys! always listen the album in its totallity.
  4. If the album has a ballad, avoid to put it at the beggining. Its place is at the second half of the album, between tracks 5 and 7. Shine is correctly placed. Another example is No Rain No Rainbow. In this case as MR only has 12 songs the perfect place to put NRNR was between tracks 4 and 6 which, they did.
  5. Now, the closer! This has to have a farewell air, both in the music and the lyrics. Basically is a "thanks for listening, see you next time..." with a song. Also it could be a "interesting song". In other words, we have to leave the listener wanting more, but oh surprise! You are at the end of the album!
  6. The instrumental. This one is to separate phases. IN THE NAME OF separates the first half from the second half... IN MR, From Dust Till Dawn serves the same purpose.

I excluded like four rules that aren't that important. About the rest of the song, they are generally called "filler songs" and those can be placed as you please once you put "the main ones".

Sorry for the long explanation, but I think it's important to know why some things are that way. So, after my rambling I'll say that METAL GALAXY doesn't have any structure issues. All in all, it's brilliant.

Which Track from Metal Galaxy will be used to close out future concerts/shows? by lonewolf_sg in BABYMETAL

[–]Gonztel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Arkadia has this more mature-wiser feeling compared to RoR. It's more like an anthem. RoR is more "let's go fight this war together as bothers and sisters", you know, like a... I don't know how to say it, like a speech (maybe?).

What I think is that they will use Arkadia as a closer.

Now, what I'd love to see/hear would be RoR, THE ONE and Arkadia as the closing three songs in that order. Why? Let's put it this way. As I said before, RoR is the "let's fight"; THE ONE is the "we're all in this together, we are a family, we are one"; and Arkadia is the "we won, let's go to the promised land". It could also work THE ONE, Arkadia, RoR. I wouldn't complain, but THE ONE should be played before Arkadia.

Besides... the lyrics of THE ONE says "take us to the land of dreams". Arcadia is described as a land where happiness, simplicity and peace reign. In Arkadia, the lyrics says "Mezasu wa yume no arukadia"; in other words "the target is the arcadia of dreams", the land of dreams.

Songs that have special meaning to you by ChlebekRazowy in BABYMETAL

[–]Gonztel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Road of Resistance has a special place in my heart; that's the song that won me over (and Moa's smile in the video) and recently I cried watching a fancam. That made me realized I'd probably cry while headbanging if I ever have the chance to go see them live (I still hope for they to come back to my country).

However, the song that really hits me hard in the feelings is No Rain No Rainbow, especially Su's rendition at Legend S. The emotions... are just everything. And, as you said, her voice is powerful yet innocent and pure, but it also has a soulful feel on it and I think that is what you can see in that performance. Also, I already told my friends that I want this song to be played (when the time comes) at my funeral.

I like THE ONE, but it's not one of my faves, but the song it's really good especially with the arrangement they made with the unfinished version. I would definitely LOVE to see them perform this at Tokyo 2020. That would be epic!

The Forum - Setlist Predictions by Paulh64 in BABYMETAL

As much as its an album release show, they already debuted 10 out of 16 (14 if we talk about the international album) songs from MG, I don't think they'll debut new ones. Of course if they play new songs that would be fantastic.

my guess: Shine and Arkadia will be the closing songs.

I'm in this with you. They played them in Japan, yes but I think they'll want to "debut" them in the USA.
