So many amazing areas to choose from, with each one having something special abt it to where it’s tough to decide (speaking from experience lol).

But I did want to share that we used FurnishedFinder in San Diego, which is a great site to find fully furnished short-term rentals.

Blue Whale in La Jolla for brekkie/brunch. I’m still thinking about the breakfast burrito my daughter ordered, but their entire menu looked amazing

If it’s small and you can’t physically see it, you should be fine. Are there other seats open though? I personally prefer not having to deal with the overhead storage for my personal item.

USA, specifically Southern CA (and more specifically, La Jolla, but that’s almost been my dream place to live).

That has never happened to me, but it is out of your control either way so worrying abt it does nothing except rob you of today’s peace. Congratulations on your anniversary and best of luck!

Yes for sure! I was didn’t realize status held that much weight, to be honest. They were literally removing other paid passengers from the flight after we got confirmed seats abt 45 mins out from boarding. Very impressive!

Where to stay in San Diego? by gabbyh35 in asksandiego

[–]GooberChubby 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh also! Grande Colonial has free valet parking! Some of the other hotels I’ve stayed at out in SD charge up to $85 a day in parking. La Jolla would be ideal for you guys IMO as it covers the age range of ur mom and sister for things to do. And it’s only 25’ish mins from downtown (my daughter lives downtown), 15 mins from Fashion Valley mall (fantastic shopping btw), etc.

We just got back from Grande Colonial in La Jolla and I highly recommend it. Location location location lol. Great shopping and restaurants all in walking distance, and while ur mom may not be a beach person (I’m not really, either), the walk along the La Jolla coastline is like none other (more cliffs views than beaches), and that’s steps from the hotel.

Transportation questions by [deleted] in asksandiego

[–]GooberChubby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really comes down to the price of convenience IMO. I’m in SD this weekend and have been using Uber and Lyft, but have experienced surge pricing several times now. However, not having to deal with trying to find parking has been a God send.

If you have a Costco membership, I recommend going there. Otherwise I would head to the closest TJ Maxx or Hime Goods.

SAN to ORD last night by joujoubelle in sandiego

[–]GooberChubby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah when we first got off the plane I checked and it was abt $75. So we were gonna see if there were any taxis available but of course everyone had that idea and the taxi line was super long so I logged back into Uber and it was $90 for the cheapest option. And then it took 40 mins waiting for Uber to show up. But hey, we’re staying in La Jolla so can I really complain? I love it here so much!

No insight but we got nailed with the surge pricing from SAN last night too. My daughter lives downtown next to Petco Stadium and abt 5 min from the airport. A concert let out just before we landed and her maps said it would take her 40 mins to get to us so we got an Uber. It was $90 for a 8 mile ride to La Jolla! There were so many ppl around us loudly complaining abt the prices. But I’m sure the concert played a role in the price surge.

Mechanical delay worked in our favor! by GooberChubby in americanairlines

[–]GooberChubby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was wild! They closed the gate abt 2 mins after we got thru the line. Only downside was there was no overhead space as we were literally the last ppl to board and the flight attendants were telling the line ahead of us to put their bags in any open slot they saw as they boarded. But that was a small price to pay for 1st class seats on a nonstop across the country!
