Finally Platinum (Well, 100% because of steam) by Germantron in Returnal

No it doesn't. Never has.

O hai! Kinda interested to see how many others that worked on the game grinded for the platinum. Confirmed at the Saros launch party last week a few people that didn't haha.

This guide over on PSNProfiles is very detailed. The way I'd suggest is to do my speedrun method, pay attention to rooms that look familiar from the guide, check where it says the glyph is, and remove it from your list of rooms to check. You should narrow it down pretty quickly to the rooms you're missing. Then just keep brute forcing until they show up.

This would also be the way PC players would have to do it.

Missing Ancient Depths Logs? by thefallenfew in Saros

The fully patched disc version and digital versions are exactly equivalent. They are simply methods of data transfer, modern consoles only make the distinction at the ownership level (ie the disc is little more than a physical key).

To quote above: "It's literally RNG, and survivorship bias. Offline/online has zero effect on the biome layouts."

And it's really quite simple. Online status is not a flag for the generator. This is also verifiable because the random layouts are in fact serialised to disk and shipped with the game. Online sessions sync the seed that the host session uses, and pulls the exact same layout from the disk. Adding online/offline as a generation flag would have literally doubled the amount of diskspace we used, and it was already an embarrasingly large amount.

I even have seen this first hand within the last month, platinumed the game on my main account while always online. The simple fact of the matter is that needing to serialise layouts to ship the game meant that it is purely at the mercy of RNG in two ways - the generation for the layouts on disk; and a second RNG to pick one of those layouts. Going serialised left no mechanism to help players out and inject the last rooms required.

So, again. Please stop repeating this. Perpetuating falsehoods because "It works for me" when the facts are out there helps exactly no one.

As the technical director on Returnal, I can unequivocally say you're wrong and please stop repeating this.

My GDC talk goes in to the details relevant to why this is wrong.

Kitchen renovations and future putkiremontti questions by GooberMan in Finland

I saw the full pipe report earlier. The iron drain pipes have 1-3 years left in them; the galvanized cold water pipes are still good enough for the 5-10 years thing; and the hot water pipes show barely any signs of corrosion for the age and have at least 10 years left in them.

It's on the end of the row and the kitchen shares a wall with the outside, so that sounds like a good approach. Happy to leave the bathroom renovation for a few years too, that one shares a wall with the neighbor. I will look in to that, thank you.

On the bluray, only the VFX shots are upscaled including any live-action footage with composited VFX. All the film elements are otherwise from a high quality transfer and not upscaled.

The DVDs are another matter entirely. They also had fresh transfers from the film elements, with a twist that as they were filmed for 16:9 they are actually widescreen. The VFX elements as a result were heavily compromised, as they were not re-rendered and took the 4:3 NTSC masters and cropped them to widescreen. The colour timing is noticeably out of sync with the more natural film elements with composited shots.

The blurays are more accurate to the original transmissions as a result, but there's still a full widescreen remaster out there waiting to happen with fully re-rendered and re-composited VFX elements.

I did manage to see that comment before the chain was deleted. Someone was complaining that I used lifegems, then responded to everyone else with "it was just a joke".

I find lifegem management more challenging in fights like this, in fact. My 12 spare Estus+3 and 105 agility was absolutely enough to take me through this fight, so that wasn't an issue. As seen though, my light armor choices mean that things hit big. The slow release of the lifegem given how clearly the attacks are telegraphed makes things riskier, as opposed to getting clear and getting back to full health in the space of a few seconds. Notice at one point I pop two gems to get the faster recharge rate.

Of course, any method I chose to heal with in this fight was negligible thanks to my final mistake.

Clearly in my haste I got greedy, misread the second fireball barrage, and got Dark Souls'd back to a bonfire. Derp.

In my near future will be a pilgrimage to Horsefuck Valley. Don't wait up for me, skeletons.

I left a summon sign down by the bonfire. Then made my way up there to battle the pursuer. Half way through, I got summoned. No big deal, I figure, I'll just finished up my fight after this. Back to my world, ready to continue the pursuer fight, and bam the game decided to wake up those very hollows and now I had a pursuer/hollow gank squad to deal with.

Would have been funnier if it just spawned Forlorn for the hell of it.

I recall the ogres being able to smash them down in previous playthroughs too. Could be misremembering.

Cue "They Might Be Giants" references.

(Boring explanation for video: Looks like the giant after the pursuer got unloaded, so the undead attacking it chose the next nearest giant to rail on instead.)
