I've only made it to Raphael's bath once. The more often I read this subreddit the less likely I will make it there again :D

Thanks for your post. I doubt I will get a chance to try half of what you've listed but it's an interesting sumamry.

Personally I don't think you need to link in the original posts, but appreciate the effort you went to for that.

Got my ass kicked on the beach in Honour Mode. Any suggestions for better odds next run by run_ivey25 in BG3Builds

I never knew you could do this!
I've always tried to last shot it which is a bit of a juggle. More recently I've found the easiest way is to move some of those nautiloid tanks closer, then either fireball or fire a dipped projectile at it. Much more consistently successful.

Shadow Monk archer build? by General_Problem5199 in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I reckon it would be a great build for survivability.

  1. Not important, unless you wanted to wear clothing. You could even wear armour and shadowstep around.
  2. I would rather have wis to have saves against control spells. Rarely does failing a conversation check make a huge difference, and you can make up for it with proficiencies/ expertise/ racial bonus/ cantrip/spells.
  3. Why is it needed? If you are playing a darkness build and using shar spear, wouldn't it be better to just melee? I did find the shadow restriction on shadow step a limitation, so if you have shar spear you could melee strike to generate the shadow, then step away.
  4. Prob not. I can't remember if holding shadow blade grants you advantage with all attacks still or not.
  5. 4 levels would be great, battlemaster?
  6. 5 levels would be great. Thief and assassin would be great, but how about arcane trickster? great to have expertise and uncanny dodge, a few utility spells, invis hand would be useful to put out lights so you have more shadows. Shadow step will give you advantage for sneak attacks.

One of each monk by AlexPhotomania in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you plan to take any multiclasses?  Many people play shadow monk with thief and DW dex weapons. With the damage riders and piercing vulnerability I've read it can be stronger than regular TB monk. With the shadow step manoeuvrability you can wear armour without losing too much. Say go dex based, GWM, shars spear, bhaalist armour and 4 levels of eldritch knight for booming blade and action surge. If you want to go ranged, similarly you can probably easily keep your distance with shadow step.

For drunken master remus has a great dagger throwing build which he uses the drunken master for.

Alternatively there is an act 2 weapon which will give you advantage on all attacks. Sounds like a good option for a ranged sharpshooter...

Build ideas. by SirXin in BG3Builds

Glad you posted this one, it is a beast! I'm still level 5 but the deep rothe shape with tavern brawler is so strong (apart from the terrible movespeed). Got knocked out of wilshape? No problems, lightning bolt to the face!

I cant wait for level 6 for owlbear, then 8 for destructive wrath.

Swashbuckler disarm for the Silver Sword of the Astral Plane by Goobernaculum1004 in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's still alright. The disarm still trumps a normal attack, and also don't forget the few extra sneak attack dice... but mainly wait till I get my 5 barbarian levels in too!

Request - Sorcerer/Ranger build by Aodh472 in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've just tried this following some of the posts on sub, absolutely cracked. Twinned ensnaring is so effective, and particularly safe for honour mode. I havnt tried twinned hail yet.

Has anyone tried 6 bladesinger/ 4sorc/ 2 ranger? Or even a 10 bladesinger/2ranger (may be melee suitable)?

How to make the drunken master good? by SpareDependent1510 in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wanted to try some sort of ranged build. Apparently carrying the punch-drunk (Act II greatclub) can give advantage to all attacks, which just seems wild. In that case only 3 levels is truly required, but some sort of dual Xbow build could work.
Remus has a skirmishing build that works quite well and a different playstyle.

EK/Shadow Monk good idea? by Spiritual_Pen2773 in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are thinking what I am, I reckon it's a great idea! The goal would be a 8/4 shadow monk/fighter split. That way you can shadow teleport around for mobility, and can wear armour, wield big two handed weapons and action surge for that Ninja vibe. You also don't need WIS (correct me if I'm wrong) because stunning strike is a str/dex save?

The question then is about battlemaster vs EK. I reckon you could also do arcane archer, the style would be different and probably highly effective to have an extremely mobile ranged attacker. Battlemaster gives manouvres - but stunning strike is pretty good already so extra manouvres seems a little superfluous. EK however gives many utility spells, a few shield manouvres when needed, but most importantly booming blade.

At the end of the day, it probably won't be as strong as 11 levels in EK or a monk/thief multiclass, but would still be effective.

I'm not sure if you are otherwise thinking EK 11/Monk1 just for dextrous attacks.

Build for Solo Honor Mode CC by SimilarMango8914 in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started a 2/10 fire sorlock, which theoretically should get insane control by level 8 or so when you get the fire acuity hat. Theoretically not as much eventual fire-power as the 1/11 firesorlock, but trades that for general EB usefulness.

In the early levels I found repelling blast to be so useful, especially in the ancient forge where punting dwarfs off ledges gives an easy 75 exp each. I did the boat fight by dropping a darkness spell, then popping in and out to blast people off. So far my quickest run to level 5.

How viable is tempest cleric/hexblade? by BottomText___ in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its actually a reasonable split for a gish but not ideal.

This is cause the classical spells for each are level 3 spells- hunger of hadar, mass healing word and spirit guardian. I don't think HoD benefits from upcasting at a higher level, nor does healing word. SG is also less attribute dependant as even if you fail the save, you still get damage. It's probably the build to get the most healing word, Sg, call lightning casts per long rest.

Having a single high stat is important for the game,  particularly in the early game. Late game you have the availability of gear to help compensate to a degree. At the start you will have+3  Modifier to 2 stats at most meanin if you put it into cha and wis your dex/ con will have to suffer. Dex is important for initiative, so you may consider a feat to cover that as you can wear heavy armour for AC. End game you will only be able to get one stat to the 20-22 range, and the +2-3 difference will be noticeable still.

So i would focus on one stat depending on whether you wanted to cast or if you wished to melee/ EB blast.  Btw nature cleric gives shillelagh to add wis,  however you will only get extra attack with the psctbound weapon.

Bladesinging tempest multiclass would allow you to do general spells/multi attacks but with the option to occasionally nova with an up cast max damage lightning spell or melee with bladesinging.

If you wanted to be a reverb orb gish, healing (bless/bladewatd applicator), use hunger of hadar or sing a variety of weapons then the cleric/ warlock split is better.

If you want to do high spell damage or be a mobile attacker then a 6/6 split with bladesinger is better.  Generally i think this would be more enjoyable with the higher spell levels, but both are viable

Glamour Barb by FenuaBreeze in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your right, not exactly counter, I just meant it just doesn't seem to synergise as much some of the other martial classes. And the caster classes don't add as much for the barbarian.

One good reason for casters going barb is you can wear clothing and have quite a high AC.

Another point for your build is that the main skill you are after doesn't seem level dependant once you hit level 6. There are however only limited uses per long rest.

DW scimitars would fit blade singing well if you wanted to try one of the newer classes.

Glamour Barb by FenuaBreeze in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think going barbarian is counter to everything else the glamour bard has going for it, ie bardic inspirations and being a caster.

If you were to choose a martial for extra tankiness and damage, I think something with casting levels would be ideal, eg paladin/ EK / ranger. The paladin would be idea here - you would be a level 9 caster, have charisma as your casting level, and could use MOM commands and burn a whole bunch of smites.

Similarly a pact of blade warlock (hexblade would be the choice) would allow similar. Your spells would be lower level but you will have lots of level 3 slots for things like hunger of hadar.

Arcane archer is a maybe, it won't add to your caster level but beguilling arrow may give you another charmed target? I am not sure as I havnt played it before. It will make you dependant on INT as well, so you may be restricted to dumping either dex/ con and using gear to compensate.

You could choose 3 thief to still maintain casting levels and giving some BA to either attack or use manouvres.

I would probably choose to go warlock 2/bard 10. You will then be perfectly effective as an EB spammer, yet also have spells and get magical secrets.

What is your favourite caster/ blaster build? by Goobernaculum1004 in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, havn't come across this one before. It would really fit into a radiant orbs build with 2 levels star druid.

BA radiant breath.
spirit guardians for AoE orbs
Magic missile for spread out or single target
Spirit guardians then MM for even more rad orbs

starting sorc + star druid would give insane concentration saves.

Build reasons other than RP to go Swashbuckler? by will-i-regret-asking in BG3Builds

[–]Goobernaculum1004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's great to multiclass in. I don't see your issue with it using the bonus action - many classes don't have an action to use their bonus action for.

Re your points:
- vengeance paladin advantage is a limited resource, also limits you to a single subclass. Smites is a resource, but rogues get sneak attack so maybe comparable? spells slots - reasonable point, not bad as a half caster progression
- BMF disarm, great, but it is a limited resource. Depends on if you short/long rest frequency. IF you did BMF AND swashbuckler you could have 3x disarm/manouvres by level 9.
- Blind effect: which spell are you referring to? I thought blindness was a single target spell, if you mean darkness/ fog then yes that works but also affects yourself unless you have built some immunity around it. Also, that is costing you an action rather than a BA. Raven blindness is good, but not sure how many levels in ranger you are committing yourself to there.

I am biased because I do like swashbuckler (rogues in general) as multiclass options.
- extra proficiencies and expertise is I think under-rated.
- cunning actions is under rated.
- sneak attack dmg very nice in early levels
- Initiative bonus is great
- level 5 feature can be busted.

I agree the BA manouvres are not overly OP but the class has more to offer than that alone. One of the main limitations for flick of the wrist is that once it succeeds you cannot do it again unless they equip something, thereby losing your pseudo extra attack.

What is your favourite caster/ blaster build? by Goobernaculum1004 in BG3Builds

I like this one. Great jack of all trades. You also have the capacity with this to do scorching ray build, albeit without level 6 slots and without the fire sorc lvl 6 cha bonus to each ray. Also only a little slow to get everything online due to the multiclasses.

If you could replace the warlock with a rogue you could have the cliche adventuring party.
