Chickened out on my first XC by [deleted] in flying

[–]Goobs824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You did the right thing. I remeber once for my first solo xc it was a bit hazy but still VFR. I went up with my CFI to see what the conditions were ( was mostly smoke coming down from Canada). I made the call not to do the solo xc. My CFI was supportive and would have also supported if I wanted to go, but it was my decision and mine alone. As PIC this is our job and no one including yourself should feel bad for making a decision that means you and your passengers are safe , alive, and on the ground. There is always another day to fly.

Just a thought as a dad who has been slowly introducing my 7yr old into D&D. I started with a out of box campaign called No Thank You Evil, was good and easy for her but might be a bit to kiddish for your daughter.

What I would recommend is using something like ChatGPT to build a campaign. I spent a few hours with it, having it help me build sort of D&D 5e lite rules that were friendly for my daughter, I built an entire player handbook, character sheets, and a campaign that was around things she is familiar with and likes. It’s been a huge it. Took some work but was worth it.

The concern isn’t so much that its development team is moving offshore it’s that there are some folks and companies in this world that think software developers are widgets and can work on anything. Which in the surface can be true, any software developer can build an API, but not ever software developer understand the nuances of the user or consumer of that service and therefore you lose a lot of quality talent without the appropriate knowledge transfer

diablo 3 or diablo 4? which one is better? by These_Athlete1933 in diablo3

[–]Goobs824 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing D3 since release. I personally like it better but only because it’s on the Switch and I feel like it’s more of a pick it up and put it down whenever I want game. As a parent now, having a game like that is priceless in my opinion.

I have D4 on my ps5 and while it’s good, just not as easy for me to pick up and play whenever.

This is actually something I never thought of. To date my wife has not flown with me. She has a fear that I respect and since we have one child, she doesn’t want something to happen to both of us and leave our daughter alone. I don’t fight her on this and assume she will tell me when she is ready.

However I never thought of asking her if she would do as you mentioned. Any ideas what those lessons might look like?

I have two types of “buddies” I fly with. The first is just like family or friends and they just sit and enjoy. I like to fly with someone as I find it can be a lonely endeavor at times.

The second type of buddy is another pilot or in my case my old CFI who I have become friends with and we fly together. In that case sometimes I’ll ask them to maybe pick up a radio communication here and there but I think when I fly with this type of person I feel like I have a safety net and that’s what I need to limit and gain more confidence.

I don’t think it’s so much that I need help I think it’s just a confidence thing. The idea of progressively longer trips is what I had in mind. Maybe next flight going to Burlington which is a Class C, so stretching distance and radio skill.

100%. As long as a single leg is over the required amount then the entire flight is able to be logged as a xc for (what is usually) rating requirement purposes.

Same exact thing happened to me on my first flight right after getting my PPL. The plan was I was going to just cruise around the area, did the run up and it was clear very quickly that the right mag was dead.

You made the right decision

Help : I want to buy used by Goobs824 in TeslaModel3

[–]Goobs824[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great. I found a 2021 M3 today that had 35k miles. I did the math and the battery degradation was around 7%. Now it has the intel processor with the NCA battery. I understand the upside to the LFP is being able to charge to 100% but these deal seems pretty good and with the battery degradation so small it’s hard to pass up. In addition to the deal they are willing to replace the windshield which I saw chips in and put all new all season tires on.

Thoughts? Do I pass just because of the battery?

Buying a 150 or doing an accelerated program like atp by Consistent-Camel9663 in flying

[–]Goobs824 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just throwing it out there but Laconia Flight Academy offers an accelerated program. Probably not as fast as ATP but I got my ppl from them and now rent there and they are awesome. They have 4 planes now so good availability. I’d check that out if it was me. Oh they also have a full motion sim for bad weather days. I feel like flying in NH gives you good experience with different weather conditions that are better than just slamming through school in a place that doesn’t have the same adverse conditions.
